Miss Amanda Marocchi 1st XI Soccer Manager

Whilst the Lawes Davies Cup eluded the 1st XI soccer team in 2014, overall Trinity College Soccer Club had a very successful season with some outstanding results. Some teams were able to finish the season undefeated and many of our Middle School teams topped their respective tables, proving that soccer at Trinity College has a bright future. To produce consistent on-field success requires dedicated players and coaches. I take this opportunity to thank our committed players, their parents and all the coaches for their tireless efforts. It’s their passion and commitment to the ‘WORLD GAME’ that ensures Trinity soccer to be a continued success.

The soccer season for 2014 began during the April school holidays when 35 Years 11 and 12 students and three parents headed off to Singapore on the adventure of a lifetime. As well as being given the opportunity to develop their skills in preparation for the PSA season, the boys, aged from 15-17 years of age, were able to experience new cultures, see new places and embark on many adventures. Some of the highlights were Universal Studios, Sentosa Island, the amazing shopping and the iFly experience. These wonderful opportunities culminated on Easter Sunday where the highlight was being able to spend Easter Sunday at the Devine Mercy Boys Orphanage. The support and enthusiasm the boys displayed on the pitch was definitely matched off it, as each was eager and ready to help the children in the orphanage. The boys spent their day sharing lunch, singing songs and playing soccer. It was an experience I’m sure they will never forget.

After a remarkable tour and a strong drive for success, the boys were eager to attack the 2014 PSA season. They were looking forward to a successful PSA season, as there was an abundance of talent in the 15 man squad. The 2014 season became a very frustrating and an unlucky season, with many last minute goals being conceded. Over the last few months a lack of concentration at crucial times in important games became the cause for the underperformed season. With a large number of Year 11 boys advancing through the ranks, 2015 looks to be very promising.

I take this opportunity to express my sincerest thanks and congratulate our Captain, Rory Devlin (12.3), and Vice-Captains, Joseph Marino (11.4) and Alexander Ishida-Livings (11.5), for their tireless efforts in maintaining focus and guiding the younger boys throughout the season. A special mention goes to Mrs Maeve Devlin, Mrs Debra Matthews and all the parents who have assisted with breakfast, fundraising and promoting the Trinity Soccer Club community. Your efforts are truly appreciated. Finally, a huge thank you goes to 1st XI Coach, Mr Shaun Murphy (‘87) and 10A Coach, Mr David Hankin, for their assistance over the year and whilst on tour. It is with much sadness the Trinity College Soccer community farewells Mr David Hankin and we thank him immensely for his outstanding contribution to the development of Trinity soccer over the past nine years.
