Mrs Ann Clarke Junior School Music Teacher

What an incredible year we have had this year in the Music Department with the Junior School boys. I have been warmly welcomed by the Junior School staff and students and learned so much about the boys and Trinity College. What a delight it has been to participate in such a vibrant and thriving music community.

The year has been full of rehearsals and performances as the boys have prepared music for many aspects of the College calendar. Some highlights include:

• workshops in Term 1 for the boys to begin preparations for recital music • the Junior School boys singing at every Mass this year • Choir and String Ensemble performances at the Junior and Middle School Music Night • the Year 4 String Concert afternoons in Terms 2 and 4 • the performances of the Year 4 choir at the Catholic

Performing Arts Festival, with a Certificate of Merit for their singing • the Year 5/6 Choir award of an Honourable Mention for their performance at the Catholic Performing

Arts Festival • the Junior Vocal Ensemble’s award of a Certificate of

Merit (in the Primary Choral category), an Honourable

Mention, and winning a Shield in the Liturgical category of the Catholic Performing Arts Festival; this achievement resulted in a performance at the Perth

Concert Hall for the Winners’ Concert • the Junior Vocal Ensemble has been visiting a retirement community in Como, performing for the residents • an invitation to perform at the annual Western

Australian Seniors’ Awards held at the UWA Club in November • the announcement and formation of a Junior School

Wind Ensemble.

We have been honoured to work with the National Boys Choir of Australia as they toured through Western Australia, preparing some spirituals to perform with them, and participating in their normal warm-up routine. The St Andrew’s Cathedral Choir from Singapore also spent time rehearsing with the Junior School boys, and we were thrilled to discover they also knew Seize the Day which we performed at the Junior School Presentation Night.

We are also excited to announce the formation of a Junior Wind Ensemble in 2015, which will feature boys from Years 5 and 6 who learn woodwind and brass instruments.

The Junior School boys have worked well this year and have performed with excellence maintaining the high standard synonymous with Trinity. It is an honour and privilege to be part of this team.
