Cross Country Peter Jones (’03) Cross Country Coach The 2014 season was a tremendous success for Trinity cross country. Although we finished in second place with an agonising three points short of a season win, there is no doubt that the team took some giant steps forward. Dedication and application to training was of the highest quality, with every boy from the top to lower echelons running outstanding personal best times throughout the season. It goes without saying that it is a lonely place out in the far-reaches of the course, an existence where it is a battle between yourself, the voice in your head and the other runners. That’s what makes this sport beautifully unique. With a majority of our contributors still having two or three years left in the system, I have no doubt TCXC will go one step better in 2015. James Lynch (12.2) Captain It was very exciting to witness the drive and determination that evolved with the team throughout the season. With the mid-season arrival of two new runners, countless personal best times recorded through extra holiday training sessions and a victory over the cross-river rivals Aquinas College, the energy and determination of the squad was contagious. Sadly, victory was just beyond our gasp due to a very well-conditioned Aquinas team winning by the smallest margin of three points at the end of the season. Even previous captains and coaches have since commented that the top three teams of the 2014 season would have easily been victors in previous years. That is testament of the calibre of the current teams across the PSA and the popularity and development of cross country as a PSA sport. TCXC was victorious at the School Sport WA 2014 Cross Country Championships as the Boys Champion School. With the strong junior runners joining us on Saturdays, to the very capable Year 10 students transitioning to Year 11, Trinity will put down a very strong challenge in the next couple of years and I am certain that I will be floating around the PSA to bear witness to their successes.
Throughout the season we have had amazing parent support. The waves of blue and green at the finish line and along the course have truly been a rock of support for both the student runners and cross country coaches. Trinity College cross country has an amazing team spirit and this has filtered through to our parents. Nothing is ever too much or too difficult for them. They have supplied tasty treats for home races, supported and ran morning teas and sausages sizzles, helped out with setting up and marshalling the course, as well as cheering on the boys out on the track. Trinity College cross country is more than just a sporting team, it is a group of friends and brothers. I am looking forward to the excitement of the 2015 season. Ms Kathryn Down Team Manager The 2014 Year 12s are the only year group to have been given the title of ‘the half cohort’. Within the Trinity College cross country team there was no evidence of any half measures. I wish to congratulate James Lynch (12.2) as Captain and Brandon Porcaro (12.2) as Vice-Captain, who each provided leadership through motivation, sacrifice and modelling the courage needed to compete in long distance running. Fellow Year 12s also gave much over 2014 to ensure the most was made from the season. They were ably supported by Old Boys who ran numerous training sessions including Matt Smith (’13), James Ryan (’13) and Jack Cleary (’12). Special thanks to the dynamic duo Sam O’Connell (’09) and David Scott (’10) who attended almost every training session, extra sessions and competitions, becoming brothers in pain and mentors in endurance. I would also like to thank Ms Kathryn Down for her continued organisational prowess and extend a parting thanks to Mr Jacob Marai. Over the past few years Jacob Marai has been relentless in his enthusiasm and a driving force in pushing the boys past their perceived limitations. The TCXC community wishes Jacob all the best in his future endeavours. Peter Jones (’03) Cross Country Coach
