El Coquí of Rincón Magazine
Rincón , Puerto Rico
Since 2003 El Coqui of Rincón has been a bilingual community magazine published in the town of Rincón, Puerto Rico. It started out as “El Chavito,” a penny saver begun by UPRM professor Joan Sandoz. It was later taken over by visitor Kerry Sanclimenti, who re-named it El Coqui of Rincón. She then passed it on to Karen Moninger who left the island to return to Kansas City, Mo. Before leaving, Karen sold the paper to Rhea Maxwell, who took the paper to a whole new level. Rhea managed El Coqui for seven years before selling it to the current owner, Andrea Greve.
The current El Coqui of Rincón hopes to be more than a vehicle for advertising. It is a magazine about and for the residents of Rincón and our many visitors. Our town may be small but we boast a diverse community of Rincoeños (people born and raised in Rincón), North Americans, full and part timers, and tourists from all parts of the world.
