Tell me a bit about you guys. How did you meet?
Cuéntenme un poco sobre ustedes. ¿Cómo se conocieron?
It was Q’s first and last Bumble date. It wouldn’t be fair to tell the story of how Quadale and Valerie met without first sharing the prologue. July 10th, 2017, started with a match on Bumble, which quickly moved to a brief text exchange before they began calling each other almost every night before their first date on July 20th. What was strange for both of them was the ease with which they connected over the phone—minutes quickly turned into hours, conversations that kept Val awake far past her bedtime -which we all know meant something HUGE for a girl who loves her sleep. After finally finding a time that worked with Q’s kooky airport hours (at the time, he was managing restaurants at Midway Airport - that’s important for later in the story), Val and Q were able to schedule their first date for July 20th, 2017 at Barrelhouse Flat in Chicago.

Here is where the timeline splits. You ask Q, and he will say that he patiently waited for 15, 20, 25 minutes for a late Valerie - although well worth the wait. However, Val has repeatedly tried searching through her Uber ride history to prove that she was, in fact, only 1 or 2 minutes late. Either way, once Val walked into the bar, Q brought her upstairs into a small speakeasy-style space with a separate room adorned with cozy twotops surrounding a pool table. After flirting through a game of pool, the two sat down for what they would both refer to as the best Beef Tar Tar they have had. Not ready to end the date there, they made their way to Galway Bay to play an old-school game of darts and sip their way through cups of drafted domestic delight! With the night winding down, Val made a final request - would Q walk her home? Q, of course, said yes, not truly thinking through how far it was walking from Diversey to North Ave, even if it was through the park - Val, however, thought of it as a nice little jaunt, and Q’s willingness confirmed to her how well the night had gone. Flash forward to their second date; Q had asked to see Val exactly one week later, something Val had considered peculiar given his apparent eagerness on their first date. However, the very next day, Val gets a text

from Q asking her to meet him at Guilt Bar that night. He explained that he scheduled the second date one week out but intended to see her as much as possible with the time in between. Okay, so you all have been paying attention. Do you remember what was mentioned at the beginning regarding what Q did for work? Well, working at an airport gives you some pretty unusual working hours, and on this particular day, Q went to work at 3:30 am. So it is no surprise that when Val arrives at Guilt Bar that night, she is left waiting and waiting and waiting. Luckily, Val REALLY liked this man, so after it was clear he wasn’t just running late, she called him, and by his response, when he picked up, it was also clear that the man had JUST WOKEN UP! On Q’s end, he had returned from his early shift and planned to push through his fatigue and get more time with the woman he already knew he was going to marry. Well, it didn’t quite work out that way. He launched himself up to answer the phone and called an Uber just as quickly, hoping Val would still be there when he arrived. Thankfully, she was, and they fell into an already comfortable conversation pattern, wrapping up the night with a few glamor shots in the photo booth - a tradition they continued with each consecutive photo booth they encountered. Although they each may have varying accounts of how late the other was on their first and second dates, they can agree that the timing was perfect no matter how delayed each other was.
Why did you choose Rincón to get married? Q moved to Puerto Rico in 2014 to help a friend open a restaurant. After returning to Chicago in 2016, he never stopped thinking about the land of enchantment. Once Valerie and Q got together, it was a no-brainer where they would get engaged and celebrate their wedding. Rincón had stolen their hearts when they visited right after Q proposed in Vieques. They were immediately charmed by the tight-knit community, stunning beaches, and delicious food!
Tell me about the wedding. The wedding was ABSOLUTELY perfect. Casa Isleña was amazing and so hospitable. It rained for about four days, each evening, before our wedding day, but on the day of our wedding, there was nothing but sunshine! However, we weren’t afraid to get wet- after the delectable dinner and dancing- our guests joined us as we jumped into the pool!
Any funny stories or experiences along the way? We had to change our venue two months before the day and had never been to Casa Isleña. However, with the guidance of our wedding planner, Sarah Rosario (All Events PR), and the support of our media team, Ghost Edits, we fully trusted our site-unseen venue choice, and it ended up being the best choice! We actually told Tatianna from Ghost Edits that we weren’t going to jump in the pool at the end of the night, but the night of, when Tatianna asked again, we were ALL FOR IT. There was no better way to close out the celebration and “jump” into the next phase of our lives together.

Aunque cada uno puede tener diferentes historias sobre cuán tarde llegó el otro en su primera y segunda cita, de algo están de acuerdo, y es que el momento fue perfecto sin importar la tardanza.
¿Por qué elegiste Rincón para casarte? Q se mudó a Puerto Rico en 2014 para ayudar a un amigo a abrir un restaurante. Después de regresar a Chicago en 2016, nunca dejó de pensar en la tierra del encanto. Una vez que Valerie y Q se juntaron, fue una decisión obvia de dónde comprometerse y celebrar su boda. Rincón les había robado el corazón cuando lo visitaron justo después de que Q le propusiera matrimonio en Vieques. ¡Quedaron inmediatamente encantados con la unión de la comunidad, las impresionantes playas y la deliciosa comida!
Cuéntame sobre la boda. La boda fue ABSOLUTAMENTE perfecta. La Casa Isleña fue increíble y muy hospitalaria. Llovió durante unas cuatro noches, antes del día de nuestra boda, pero ese día, ¡no había nada más que un día soleado! Sin embargo, no teníamos miedo de mojarnos; después de la deliciosa cena y baile, ¡nuestros invitados se unieron para saltar a la piscina!
¿Alguna historia o experiencia divertida en el camino? Tuvimos que cambiar de local dos meses antes del día de la boda y nunca habíamos estado en Casa Isleña. Sin embargo, con la guía de nuestra organizadora de bodas, Sarah Rosario (All Events PR), y el apoyo de nuestro equipo de fotografía, Ghost Edits, confiamos plenamente en nuestra elección de lugar y terminó siendo la mejor opción. De hecho, le dijimos a Tatianna de Ghost Edits que no íbamos a saltar a la piscina al final de la noche, pero en la noche, cuando Tatianna volvió a preguntar, estábamos TODOS A FAVOR. No había mejor manera de “saltar” a la siguiente fase de nuestra vida juntos y de cerrar la celebración de esta manera.

Dime un poco sobre ti, ¿cómo llegaste a Rincón? Mi esposa y yo somos de Nueva York. Vivíamos en un pueblo costero y el surf era una gran parte de nuestras vidas. Habíamos oído hablar de Rincón durante años, pero nunca lo habíamos visitado ni conocíamos personas que lo hubiesen visitado. Sólo visitamos Rincón por unos días y nos enamoramos del lugar instantáneamente. Nunca imaginamos que podríamos sustentarnos y ganarnos la vida aquí a tiempo completo. Sin embargo, cuando nació nuestra hija Ozzy, sentimos el deseo de criarla en Rincón, alrededor de la naturaleza, alrededor de la comida que crecía de la tierra y lejos de una vida sentada adentro pegada a las pantallas. Empezamos a sentir el deseo de hacer realidad la vida en Rincón. Después de que ella nació, dejé de ir a mi estudio de joyería en Nueva York. Comencé a intentar administrar el negocio de forma remota, diseñando desde mi casa y delegando el proceso de fabricación a joyeros en los que confiaba y que entendían mi estética y estilo. Después de seis meses de poner esto a prueba, encontramos un apartamento para alquilar y nos mudamos a tiempo completo con un bebé de 9 meses. Un año y medio después, a veces no podemos creer que podamos llamar hogar a este lugar, pero estamos agradecidos de poder hacerlo funcionar aquí. Amamos esta ciudad, la gente, la comunidad y la energía en general. Tell me a bit about yourself. How did you make your way to Rincón? My wife and I are both from the New York area. We lived in a beach town, and surfing was a big part of our lives. We had heard of Rincón for years but never visited or knew people who visited. We only visited Rincón for a few days and instantly loved the place. We never imagined we could support ourselves and make a living there full-time. However, when our daughter Ozzy was born, we felt a desire to raise her in Rincón, around nature, around food that grew out of the earth, and away from a life sitting indoors glued to screens. We began to feel a desire to make life in Rincón a reality. After she was born, I stopped going to my jewelry studio in NYC. I started trying to run the business remotely, designing out of my home and delegating the manufacturing process to jewelers I trusted who understood my aesthetics and style. After six months of putting this to the test, we found an apartment to rent and moved down full-time with a 9-month-old baby.

One and a half years later, we sometimes can’t believe we can call this place home, but we are grateful to be able to make it work here. We love this town, the people, the community, and the overall energy. There are plenty of children for our daughter to play with, healthy food you can grow, and connect with nature however you wish.
How did you get into jewelry design? I came from an engineering background, specifically product design. I wanted to create something new that I needed, but that didn’t exist. I have always had a passion for art and creative design, and with engineering, I learned how to design items that could function and become actual creations. I liked having that balance of design and engineering; it let me create “functional” art. The problem with an engineering job is that most engineering projects I worked on were long and sophisticated. I met people at companies working on the same project for five years. I mean, it was a pretty fantastic project, like a new skyscraper or a new airplane design, but I realized that I was not the type of person who had the ability to stay excited working on the same thing. I found myself getting a job in the high-end jewelry industry in NYC. It was when technology had just gotten advanced enough that 3D printing and 3D computer design were starting to be integrated into the jewelry world. Traditionally, manufactured jewelry required an original design model, which was either made by hand or carved by wax and cast into metal. With 3D printing technology, designs that used to take hours to carve by hand out of a block of wax could be done in a fraction of the time. This meant that they were now creating hundreds of new designs that year. I found myself in a very fast-paced and disorganized environment, AKA the fashion industry. They always tried to make new designs and find the next big thing. And with 3D printing available, every new idea was put to the test. I had to sit with the designers, the jewelers, and the stone vendors and found myself involved in almost every part of designing a ring from start to finish. The big downside was I didn’t particularly appreciate working 9-5 in a big city. I missed too many good surf days and wanted to live by the beach. I decided I had learned enough to start doing this on my own time and schedule. I apprenticed for a master jeweler in my spare time to learn jewelry making on the bench and taught myself 3D jewelry design. I started going from jewelry store to store, offering design services for any custom order they received and began building my portfolio. I also began being approached by friends and family to make engagement rings and anniversary gifts or repurpose old jewelry into new designs. With each successful job, I got recommended to more people, which is how I got to where I am. I never would have thought this was my career path, but I am genuinely grateful to be able to support a family here in Rincón and create products that bring out so much excitement and joy.
What exactly do you offer? I offer a complete start-to-finish custom jewelry design as a one-stop shop. It is just as the name Freestyle Jewelry implies – jewelry designed without limits or restrictions. Some jewelry companies say they offer custom designs, but it is more of a mix-and-match piece from a list of options. My least favorite part of that process is

¿Qué ofreces exactamente? Ofrezco un servicio único de diseño de joyería completamente personalizado de principio a fin. Es tal y como lo dice el nombre, Freestyle Jewelry: joyas diseñadas sin límites ni restricciones. Algunas empresas de joyería dicen que ofrecen diseños personalizados, pero es más una pieza para mezclar y combinar de una lista de opciones. La parte que menos me gusta de ese proceso es que el anillo parece

I design a unique piece of jewelry from scratch, using 3D modeling technology so that you can preview and revise the design before committing to making it. All the desired features in the piece are blended into one cohesive look, able to fit any shape or size design and incorporate specific elements essential to the client. Since everything is initially designed as a 3D model, the sky’s the limit as to what to design, whether it is a classic design with a twist, a copy of something worn by a celebrity, or something completely abstract and inspired by your favorite artist. The whole experience can be done remotely or in person. I design everything here in Rincón, source all the materials and components myself, and have the piece assembled under my direction with my team in my studio back in New York. The finished product can be shipped anywhere with certified papers and appraisals if requested. This remote design process was something I perfected for a long time as a way to be able to live in Rincón and still be able to maintain the quality I expect to deliver. With 15 years of experience, I can confidently make any fine jewelry a customer may want: engagement rings, wedding bands, cocktail or other rings, pendants, bracelets, cuffs, earrings, necklaces, etc. I am happy to design an exact copy of an image that the customer likes and help them find a design that connects with them. All they need is an idea or a desire to get a ring made for someone, and I can take care of the rest. I can source diamonds, precious or semi-precious color stones, opals, pearls, beads, etc. I can also have any stone sourced and cut to fit a specific design. I can also take a stone from an existing ring or a stone you may have and create a piece of jewelry that will do it. I offer laser engraving and etching on designs, such as names, important dates, quotes, or even a logo.
What type of metals, stones, gems, or materials do you work with? I make fine-designed jewelry from the same places as the most well-known jewelry companies. I use genuine gemstones, real diamonds, and precious metals. Silver, gold (rose, yellow, white) in different carats, and platinum are the usual metals I work with. Gold and platinum are the most common for wedding jewelry. I like silver for men’s jewelry as silver allows me to make bulky and heavy pieces without being too expensive. As most women’s bridal jewelry is delicate, I recommend gold or platinum. I do not work with gold-plated materials or anything like that. As far as gemstones, I can put any gem or stone into a design. I am not a diamond dealer, so my goal is not to sell the most expensive diamond but to make the highest quality product using whatever gemstone someone would like. Everything is handmade using traditional jewelry methods – we do not glue anything. Therefore, while I could set an imitation stone, putting something inexpensive into a high-end design doesn’t make sense. There has been a rise in lab-grown diamonds and lab-grown precious stones such as rubies, sapphires, and emeralds over the last few years. I will work with these materials if a client requests them. However, I initially preferred to use natural stones from the earth, not made in a factory or treated with radiation, to make the colors look bolder.

I’m a new client. How does the process work? Initially, we need to discuss a design idea. I like to start the process organically and casually, talking to the client and gathering as much as possible about what is important to them. I want to pick up keywords that help me determine a design to make the piece more enjoyable. For example, if they work with their hands a lot or wear gloves, I may steer them to a lower setting so that the ring won’t catch. I want to know if they prefer flashy and sparkly jewelry that dazzles when they walk in the room or if they like it to give off a more subtle look. Do they like delicate or substantial rings? Do they like traditional diamond looks or want unique colored stones? Quite often, I get a guy who wants to pop the question to their girlfriend, and they like to surprise them, so they desire to come up with a design she doesn’t know about. This is when I ask them to describe their fiancé and listen for keywords to help them design. Sometimes, I’ll give them “homework” to pay attention to what type of rings they may wear or to start noticing things they may not have seen before. I’ll also help them try to guess her finger size and make sure to design a ring that can be resized if they aren’t positive about her size. I like to spend a reasonable amount of time creating a customer feel comfortable that a design has been well thought out; it helps the whole process. We then will talk about a budget. Most designs can be made at any budget, but the metal quality, types of gemstones, number of gemstones, and size of the ring will be adjusted. I will usually offer options to help make the best combination possible. As the design gets finalized, I will create a 3D model and a photorealistic rendering of the piece for the client to review. It will be an interactive model, shown to scale. The rendering is an indication of what the actual piece will look like. The client can request a prototype they can hold and see in person for an extra cost if needed. Once the design is approved, the piece is put to work. The diamonds, gemstones, and other components are sourced, and the raw metal casting is created from the 3D model. This is done with a 3D-printed wax cast into whatever precious metal we want. Once all of the pieces are together, we begin assembly of the ring, followed by setting, texturing (if needed), and final polish. Photos and videos are recorded during the whole process to show the client, and the final job is boxed and delivered. The entire process typically takes 4-6 weeks.

¿DEBERÍAS HACER UN PRIMER SHOULD YOU DO A FIRST LOOK VISTAZO EL DÍA DE TU BODA? ON YOUR WEDDING DAY? Pensamientos y Consideraciones Por Tatianna Muniz, fotógrafa principal de Ghost Edits A la hora de planificar una boda hay que tomar muchas decisiones: ¿Rosas o flores tropicales? ¿Cuánto tiempo debe pasar para dar un primer beso? ¿Debería invitar a ese tío raro, Tommy? ¿Haremos un primer vistazo o esperaremos hasta la ceremonia? Cada novia debe responder estas preguntas cuando comienza el proceso de planificación de la boda. Aunque no hay una respuesta incorrecta, dependiendo de quién eres como persona y qué tipo de experiencia deseas, te guiará en la dirección correcta para responder esta pregunta. How long is too long for a first kiss? Does creepy Uncle Tommy get an invite? Will we do a first look or wait until the ceremony? Every bride has to answer these questions when they begin the wedding planning process. Although there is no wrong answer, based on who you are as people and what kind of experience you want will steer you in the right direction to answer this question. A first-look pre-ceremony is when the couple meets in an area before the ceremony without friends and family around to be alone before walking down the aisle. For some, it’s an incredibly intimate moment together and a time to check in and share their thoughts and feelings about the upcoming ceremony and overall day. It’s a time for the bride and groom to have a moment without the pressure of everyone watching them, and for some, what better way to settle the nerves than talking to your fiancé and checking in? For others, it’s a moment of pressure and anxiety that builds off of stage fright and the worry that they need to have a grand reaction to seeing their bride in the dress for the first time. After all, it isn’t a complete moment alone because you have the photo and video team eagerly waiting to catch the couple’s reactions. If the first look pre-ceremony would be performative and inauthentic, saving the first look for when the bride walks down the aisle can be the chance to have that magical first look moment. Most couples would agree that once you are in the ceremony and the ceremony starts, you forget that there are photographers and videographers recording your every reaction and facial expression. Instead, you are so deeply in the moment of getting married that the first look as your bride walks down the aisle is about nothing but seeing her come down to marry you.

From a photography standpoint, having the first look preceremony means that there is an opportunity for the couple to attend their cocktail hour. Since the bride and groom have already seen each other, you have more room to change the order of events. For example, a sample itinerary could be: 1. Getting ready, 2. First look, 3. Family portraits, 4. Couple session, 5. Ceremony, 6. Cocktail hour, and 7. Reception. If you save the first look during the ceremony, that cocktail hour time will be used for Family Portraits and the Couple Session. It’s important to note that checking in about the ideal time of day to get married is a factor in this decision. If you have always dreamed of having your ceremony at sunset, then you are going to want to have a first look pre-ceremony so that you can do the family portraits and couple session before the ceremony; otherwise, those sessions will be at night; after sunset, and the photographer will have to use flash. That is an entirely different aesthetic than family portraits in the daytime or at golden hour. At the end of the day, there is no right or wrong answer to having a first look or not. When you read this article, what speaks to you? Did you get nervous at the thought of having a first look pre-ceremony? Did you feel more comfortable and excited to have that opportunity to check in with your fiancé before the ceremony? What makes you feel good and excited? For some, having the first look pre-ceremony is the better fit, and saving that first look for when your bride comes down the aisle is the better option for others. Take the time to think about what means most to you, and the rest will all fall into place.

Esta técnica, cada pastelero la ha ido evolucionando a su manera pero, lleva en el mercado aproximadamente 10 años. Es reconocida por sus bordes perfectos y tener un acabado liso y de buena duración.

In recent years we have noticed several wardrobe changes on the bride. This has led to the creation of a new trend where it is about recreating the bride's evening dress on the cake. These have textures and decorative details similar to the dress. If we talk about spring, and summer, flavors such as vanilla, almond, lemon, orange, and coconut are usually recommended, inspiring fresh flavors to the palate. Flavors such as chocolate, coffee, almond, carrot and brandy decorated with red fruits and nuts will be ideal for the fall and winter seasons. These go very well with nude cake or cake fondant because of the spongier texture.
