Rincón, Puerto Rico, is not usually the first place that comes to mind when one thinks of LGBTQ+ history. However, this charming coastal town has a rich queer history that is often overlooked. In the 90s, Rincón had actual gay bars like Cafe Con Leche in the plaza, Machu Pichu at the beach house, and Cusa’s Shebar which hosted drag shows where Pal’monte now stands. In more recent years, places like The English Rose, El Ancla, and La Copa Llena have hosted drag shows during pride month to show their support.
This year marks the 3rd annual parade and celebration of Orgullo Rincón, a festival organized by members of the local LGBTQ+ community. The organizers hold their events the last weekend of June in commemoration of the Stonewall riots, a pivotal moment in LGBTQ+ history that occurred in New York City in 1969. Stonewall was a series of spontaneous, violent demonstrations by members of the LGBTQ+ community in response to a police raid at the Stonewall Inn. The riots are widely considered to be the catalyst for the gay liberation movement in the United States.
Orgullo Rincón celebrates the brave trans women who threw the first stone at Stonewall and paved the way for LGBTQ+ liberation. The festival is a variety show showcasing young queer Boricua artists, musicians, poets, and drag performers. This year’s celebration is fully funded by donations from the community, with organizers fundraising to make the event more accessible, safe, and inclusive.
The event on June 24 is also a fundraiser for The Transgender Wellness Center PR, an organization dedicated to providing health and wellness resources to transgender people in Puerto Rico. There will be a variety of fundraising activities planned for the day, including face and body painting, a domino and briska tournament, and a hugging booth. In addition, there will be a children’s play area to keep the little ones entertained while the grown-ups enjoy the festivities.
The parade starts at 6 pm after the variety show and ends in the plaza, where the celebration will continue into the night. This year’s Orgullo Rincón promises to be an unforgettable celebration of love, diversity, and inclusivity. Let us come together as a community to support our LGBTQ+ siblings and honor the legacy of those who fought for our rights.
Rincón, no suele ser el primer lugar que viene a la mente cuando uno piensa en la historia LGBTQ+. Sin embargo, este encantador pueblo costero tiene una rica historia queer que a menudo se pasa por alto. En los años 90’s, Rincón tenía bares dedicados a la comunidad LGBTQ+ como Café Con Leche en la plaza, Machu Pichu en the beach house, y Cusa’s Shebar que contaba con grandes espectáculos de drags. Lugar que se situaba donde ahora se encuentra el restaurante Pal’monte. En los últimos años, lugares como The English Rose, El Ancla y La Copa Llena han organizado espectáculos de drags durante el mes del orgullo como muestra de su apoyo.
Este año marca el tercer desfile anual y la celebración del Orgullo Rincón, un festival organizado por miembros de la comunidad LGBTQ+ local. Los organizadores realizan sus eventos el último fin de semana de junio en conmemoración de las protestas de Stonewall, un momento crucial en la historia LGBTQ+ que ocurrió en la ciudad de Nueva York en 1969. Stonewall fue una serie de espontáneas y violentas manifestaciones por miembros de la comunidad LGBTQ+ en respuesta a una redada policial en el Stonewall Inn. Las protestas son ampliamente consideradas como los catalizadores del movimiento de la liberación gay en los Estados Unidos.
Orgullo Rincón celebra a las valientes mujeres trans que arrojaron la primera piedra en Stonewall y abrieron camino para la liberación LGBTQ+. El festival es una variedad de espectáculos que muestran a jóvenes artistas queer, músicos, poetas e intérpretes drags boricuas. La celebración de este año está totalmente financiada por donaciones de la comunidad. Y, con la recaudación de fondos de los organizadores para hacer el evento más accesible, seguro e inclusivo.
El evento del 24 de junio también es para recaudar fondos para The Transgender Wellness Center PR, una organización dedicada a brindar salud y recursos de bienestar a personas transgénero en Puerto Rico. Habrá una serie de actividades para la recaudación de fondos planeadas durante el día, incluyendo pintura facial y corporal, un torneo de dominó y cartas, más una cabina de abrazos. Además, habrá una zona de juegos infantil para que los más pequeños se entretengan mientras los grandes disfrutan de las festividades.
El desfile comienza a las 6:00 pm después de una variedad de espectáculos y termina en la plaza, donde la celebración continuará hasta la noche. El Orgullo Rincón de este año promete ser una celebración inolvidable de amor, diversidad e inclusión. Unámonos como comunidad para apoyar a nuestros hermanos de la comunidad LGBTQ+ y honrar el legado de quienes lucharon por nuestros derechos.
Summer in Rincón is finally here, and with it comes all the little changes and things that make this time of year so special. For me it’s the slower pace, ripe mangos, and less crowded beaches that I love. On my recent beach walks I couldn’t help but notice the abundance of sargassum seaweed washing up on the shores of Rincón. As I walked all sorts of questions began to pop up in my head. What is this stuff and where did it come from? Is it good or is it bad? Could there be any positive use for it? To answer my questions I turned to the expert, Dr. Chelsea Harms-Tuohy from Isla Mar Research Expeditions.
Andrea: What is Sargassum?
Chelsea: Sargassum is a type of brown macroalgae that spends its entire lifecycle in the water column (it never attaches to the seafloor for any part of its growth and reproduction). It is typically brownish/ orange in color and it is composed of leafy branches with berry-like structures that are actually gas-filled air bladders that the algae use for flotation.
Andrea: Where does it grow/come from?
Chelsea: Sargassum is found in the Sargasso Sea where it originates and reproduces vegetatively, which means it arises from a single parent without any need for spores or seeds. The Sargasso Sea is an area of the North Atlantic where this seaweed congregates. The Sea is not bordered by any land masses but is instead bounded by ocean currents that define the area.
Andrea: Is sargassum something bad or something natural?
Chelsea: Sargassum blooms are naturally occurring. They happen in the open ocean and get carried around the North Atlantic by the currents. The Sargasso Sea, located in the middle of the Atlantic, is where this brown algae blooms and congregates in large masses. Those clumps break off and get transported by currents all the way down to the Caribbean, where eddies, swells, and hurricanes will push them in towards land masses where they eventually end up along the coasts or gathered into bays. Although natural, these blooms can increase when nutrient input is high which supports algal growth. Additionally, sargassum provides a really important habitat for juvenile crabs,
El verano en Rincón finalmente ha llegado, y con él vienen todos los pequeños cambios y cosas que hacen de esta época del año tan especial. Para mí es el ritmo más lento, mangos maduros y playas menos concurridas que me encantan. En mis paseos recientes por la playa no pude evitar notar la abundancia del sargazo varado en las costas de Rincón. Mientras caminaba todo tipo de preguntas comenzaron a aparecer en mi mente. ¿Qué es esta cosa y de dónde viene? ¿Es bueno o es malo? ¿Podría haber algún uso positivo para ello? Para responder a mis preguntas recurrí a la experta, Dra. Chelsea Harms-Tuohy de Isla Mar Research Expeditions.
Andrea: ¿Qué es el sargazo?
Chelsea: Sargassum (sargazo) es un tipo de macroalga parda que pasa todo su ciclo de vida en la columna de agua (nunca se adhiere al lecho marino para ninguna parte de su proceso de crecimiento y/o reproducción). Es típicamente de color marrón/naranja y está compuesto de ramas frondosas como una baya de estructuras que en realidad son vejigas de aire llenas de gas que las algas usan para flotar.
Andrea: ¿De dónde crece o viene?
Chelsea: El sargazo se encuentra en el Mar de los Sargazos donde se origina y reproduce vegetativamente, lo que significa que surge de un solo padre sin necesidad de esporas o semillas. El Mar de los Sargazos es una zona del norte del Océano Atlántico donde se congregan estas algas. El mar no está bordeado por masas de tierra, sino por corrientes oceánicas que definen el área.
Andrea: ¿El sargazo es algo malo o algo natural?
Chelsea: Las floraciones de sargazo es algo que ocurre naturalmente. Suceden en mar abierto y se transportan a través de las corrientes ocasionadas por el norte del Océano Atlántico. El Mar de los Sargazos, ubicado en medio del Atlántico, es donde esta alga parda florece y se congrega en grandes masas. Donde aquellos grumos se desprenden y son transportados por las corrientes hasta el Caribe, donde remolinos, marejadas y huracanes los empujan hacia las masas de tierra y eventualmente terminan a lo largo de las

Also, predatory fish like tuna and wahoo will hide under the sargassum mats to avoid bird predators, but will also benefit from the many small animals living among the seaweed that they can consume for food. So, although it may be annoying to us, this seaweed is actually quite an important part of the marine ecosystem.
Andrea: What effects do you think this accumulation of sargassum is having on Rincón?
Chelsea: Decaying sargassum is certainly a smelly eye-sore for beachgoers. The decaying sargassum releases hydrogen sulfide, a gas that gives off the rotting smell. Although not dangerous in this setting (open air, windy beaches) the gas can irritate the eyes and throat, especially in people who suffer from asthma. Also, the sargassum can also hide waste items, such as plastics and metals that get tangled up in the seaweed while it was drifting. This means it’s important to avoid walking directly over the mounds of sargassum while barefoot so that you can avoid the risk of injuring yourself from unseen hazards. In Rincon, the sargassum can deter tourism as beachgoers prefer a clean, beautiful beach. The municipality could put efforts into removing the sargassum and depositing it in a compost field, but this will require significant effort considering this seaweed is a seasonal visitor that will continue to wash ashore for several months.
Andrea:
Is there any beneficial use for it?
Chelsea: Yes, some scientists, including those at the University of Puerto Rico, are working to develop aviation fuel from the sargassum. This would provide a great solution to disposing of the decaying seaweed. Other suggestions have been for compost, however, individuals should be cautious of using this seaweed in their own homes because it can carry heavy metals like arsenic and cadmium.

En adición, los peces depredadores como el atún y el wahoo se esconden debajo de las esteras del sargazo para evitar a los depredadores de aves, como también se benefician de los muchos pequeños animales que viven entre las algas que pueden consumir como alimento. Entonces, aunque puede ser molesto para nosotros, esta alga es en realidad una parte bastante importante del ecosistema marino.
Andrea: ¿Qué efectos crees que está teniendo esta acumulación de sargazo en Rincón?
Chelsea: El sargazo en descomposición es sin duda una ofensa maloliente para los bañistas. En la decadencia del sargazo se libera sulfuro de hidrógeno, un gas que desprende ese olor a podrido. Aunque no es peligroso en este entorno (aire libre o playas ventosas) el gas puede irritar los ojos y la garganta, especialmente en personas que sufren de asma. Además, el sargazo también puede ocultar elementos de desecho, como plásticos y metales que se enredan en las algas mientras estas van a la deriva. Esto significa que es importante no caminar descalzo directamente sobre los montículos de sargazo para evitar el riesgo de lesionarse debido a peligros invisibles. En Rincón, el sargazo puede disuadir al turismo ya que los bañistas prefieren una playa limpia y hermosa. El municipio podría establecer más esfuerzos en retirar el sargazo y depositarlo en un campo de composta. Pero, esto requerirá un esfuerzo significativo considerando que esta alga marina es un visitante estacional que continuará llegando a tierra durante varios meses.
Andrea: ¿Tiene algún uso beneficioso?
Chelsea: Sí, algunos científicos, incluyendo los de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, están trabajando para desarrollar combustible de aviación a partir del sargazo. Esto proporcionaría una gran solución para desechar las algas en descomposición. Otras sugerencias han sido para el abono, sin embargo, las personas deben tener cuidado al usar esta alga en sus propios hogares porque puede transportar cargas pesadas metales como el arsénico y el cadmio.
Artist, warrior, and interesting woman!

Blasini Batista began painting in oil at the age of nine. Encouraged by her mother, she began to take painting classes in San Juan, her hometown. The Puerto Rican visual artist works with painting, drawing, mixed media, performance, and poetry. Her late Puerto Rican father and her Cuban mother edified her love for culture, travel, and art. In her teens she paid for her visual arts studies at the San Juan Art Students League and the old Casa Candina with her earnings from babysitting and 64 newspaper deliveries en route. She has a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Sarah Lawrence College in New York. Her teachers of visual arts and Taíno traditions influenced her a lot, becoming her great mentors. Her works have been exhibited in Puerto Rico, New York, and Japan. Annette enjoys writing songs and has published two craft books. She is also a cultural manager, environmentalist, and founder of Casa Boriké.
She came to Rincón for a camping weekend. A month after her visit, she was moving. Rincón captivated her immediately! She discovered its magic, its wonderful and valuable natural resources; especially the fact that it still had wilderness. We all know that Rincón has changed a lot. But if we study the most beautiful and paradisiacal places on the planet, they are in the same situation. Unfortunately! Rincón in the ‘90s felt more like a community where everyone knew each other, but that’s not the case anymore.
Ecological League of Rincón
The Ecological League, of which Blasini was part of the education committee, emerged in the early ‘90s. This idea was born when the conversation began to remove the mango trees from Highway 115 to expand the road. A petition against this was made by Rebecca Tozer. She proposed instead, to make two lanes around them and keep the trees in between them. A successful proposal, since it was possible to save the trees and avoid the government agenda. We can all agree that the trees between Highway 115 are emblematic and characteristic of Rincón.

Annette Blasini Batista, comenzó a pintar al óleo a los nueve años. Animada por su madre comenzó a tomar clases de pintura en San Juan, su pueblo natal. La artista visual puertorriqueña trabaja con pintura, dibujo, medio mixto, performeo y poesía. Su difunto padre puertorriqueño y su madre cubana inspiraron su amor por la cultura, los viajes y el arte. En su adolescencia costeó sus estudios de artes visuales en la Liga de Estudiantes de Arte de San Juan y la antigua Casa Candina con sus ganancias trabajando como niñera y su ruta de periódicos, haciendo 64 entregas diarias. Tiene un grado de bachillerato y un grado máster de Sarah Lawrence College en Nueva York. Sus maestras de artes visuales y de tradiciones taínas la influenciaron mucho, convirtiéndose en sus grandes mentoras. Sus obras se han exhibido en Puerto Rico, Nueva York y Japón. A Annette le gusta escribir canciones y ha publicado dos libros artesanales. También es gestora cultural, ambientalista, y fundadora de Casa Boriké.
Llegó a Rincón con el propósito de acampar y pasar un buen fin de semana. Al mes de su visita ya se estaba mudando. ¡Rincón la cautivó inmediatamente! Describiendo su magia, y albergando recursos naturales maravillosos y muy valiosos; sobre todo que aún nos quedan terrenos silvestres. Todos sabemos que Rincón ha cambiado muchísimo. Pero si estudiamos los lugares más bellos y paradisíacos del planeta, se encuentran en la misma situación. ¡Desafortunadamente! El Rincón de los años 90 se sentía más como una comunidad, todos se conocían, y ahora ya no tanto.
This Ecological League established the precedent of the movement and environmental awareness in Rincón. Given the small paradise that it is, over the years many have tried to destroy it, cut it, and mutilate it. We all have the duty of being the custodians and protectors of this territory. If we don’t do it, nobody will. The excessive development and the theft of beaches and coasts have strengthened the consciousness of vigilance and belonging of Boriké.
While this league was formalized, she stayed within reach by visiting schools with Milton Medina, a great activist to this day. They did paintings and workshops with students of the Conrado Rodríguez school.
As a result of the origin of the League, it has been possible to fight projects such as Villa Ikaria (Tres Palmas), a project that awakened interest in preserving Tres Palmas and creating what we know today as the Marine Reserve. Blasini was part of the founding group, where leaders and activists were formed in Rincón, and later the Pro-Quality of Life Coalition (when the League was dissolved). In addition, she has participated in Salva Rincón, Salva Tres Palmas, Coalición Pro-Calidad de Vida, Amigos de Tres Palmas, Fundación Surfrider, Campamento Carey, Campamento Cemí, Bosque La Armonía, and most recently, Paseo Comunitario Tres Palmas. She is fascinated by the dedication of these groups to better Rincón and is proud to contribute where she can.

We asked Blasini about her greatest contribution to Rincón, to which she responded: “If my participation as an ecologist in a school, workshop, or event awakened the curiosity and love for nature of just one student, that makes me feel happy and satisfied. If that student as an adult makes the decision not to destroy the environment, to protect natural resources, and to fight for the land, my work has achieved its goal.”
In addition, Blasini has written two craft books Nidos and Astros Binarios. Nidos is an artist’s book of poetry/creative writing and collages by Blasini. This is an edition of 50 copies, handmade and with unique art on each cover. Astros Binarios is a book of poetry with haikus by Sol Miranda and drawings by Blasini to illustrate each haiku.
Casa Boriké
How was the idea born? Blasini always wanted to have a community space full of art, artists, and creativity. One that would be multidisciplinary and at the same time target the needs of environmental groups in the area by providing them with a space to meet, and do workshops, and events. The idea was to unite the two passions of her life: art and protecting Boriké.
Casa Boriké offers an exhibition space called Galería Boriké, with excellent contemporary art that visually enriches the urban area of Rincón. It’s open five days a week for locals and visitors. It also offers educational lessons, workshops, and performances. It’s open for student visits and it even served as a post-Fiona collection center. The space is available for meetings of the heroic environmental groups, who together have accomplished so much for our beautiful town, against all odds (literally).
It is a century-old historic house that is being preserved little by little and with a lot of love. This has been possible thanks to the generous support of Galería Boriké, plus donations from friends of Casa Boriké.
It was baptized as the Casa Boriké in honor of our ancestors, and the original name of our island. Which means land of the great brave. Every time we pronounce or write the name Boriké, we honor this sacred and magical land. The house is a place where visitors can travel to the time of our grandparents through its architecture, and at the same time enjoy contemporary art by local artists with a sensitivity towards the planet, Boriké, and its people.

Liga Ecológica de Rincón
La Liga Ecológica, de la cual Blasini formó parte del comité de educación, surgió al principio de los 90. Esta idea nace al momento en que entra en conversación el eliminar los árboles de mangó de la Carretera 115 para ensanchar la vía. Se hizo una petición, liderada por Rebecca Tozer, para que no cortaran los árboles. De ahí surge la propuesta para que se hicieran dos carriles y mantener los árboles en el centro. Una propuesta exitosa, pues se logró salvar los árboles y evitar el proyecto gubernamental agendado. Todos podemos estar de acuerdo que los árboles entre la carretera 115 es algo emblemático y característico de Rincón.
Esta Liga Ecológica estableció el precedente del movimiento y la conciencia ambiental en Rincón. Ante el pequeño paraíso que es este municipio, llevan años tratando de destruir nuestros recursos naturales, talándolo, mutilándolo y todos tenemos el deber y la gran responsabilidad de ser los custodios y protectores de este territorio. Si no lo hacemos nosotros, nadie lo hará. El desarrollo desmedido, el robo de nuestras playas y zona marítimo terrestre ha fortalecido esa consciencia de vigilancia y pertenencia de Boriké.
Mientras esta liga se formalizó, se mantuvo al alcance visitando las escuelas junto a Milton Medina, un gran activista hasta el día de hoy. Se pintaba y ofrecían charlas a los estudiantes de la escuela Conrado Rodríguez.
A raíz del origen de la Liga, se han podido combatir proyectos de agenda como el de Villa Ikaria (Tres Palmas), proyecto que despertó el interés por preservar Tres Palmas y crear lo que conocemos hoy como la Reserva Marina. Le preguntamos a Blasini sobre su mayor aportación a Rincón en lo cual así nos respondió: “Sí mi participación como ecologista en alguna escuela, taller, o evento despertó curiosidad y amor hacia la naturaleza a un solo estudiante, eso me hace sentir feliz y satisfecha. Si ese estudiante al ser adulto toma la decisión de no destruir su entorno, de proteger los recursos naturales, y de luchar por su tierra, mi trabajo logró su meta.”
Algo muy interesante es que Blasini ha escrito dos libros artesanales Nidos y Astros Binarios. Nidos es un libro de artista de poesía/escritura creativa y collages de Blasini. Siendo esta una edición de 50 ejemplares, hechos a mano y con arte único en cada portada. Astros Binarios es un libro de poesía con haikus de Sol Miranda y dibujos de Blasini para ilustrar cada haiku.
Casa Boriké
¿Cómo nace la idea? Blasini siempre deseó tener un espacio comunitario lleno de arte, artistas, y creatividad. Uno que fuese multidisciplinario y a la vez satisficiera las necesidades de los grupos ambientales del área brindándoles un espacio para reunirse, dar charlas, talleres, y eventos. En realidad la idea era unir las dos pasiones de su vida: el arte y la protección del territorio de Boriké.
Casa Boriké ofrece el espacio de exhibición llamado Galería Boriké, con arte contemporáneo de excelente calidad que enriquece visualmente al casco urbano de Rincón abriendo cinco días en semana para los locales y visitantes. También, ofrece charlas educativas, conversatorios, talleres, performance, visitas de estudiantes y hasta fue centro de acopio post-Fiona. El espacio está disponible para reuniones de los heroicos grupos ambientales, quienes juntos han logrado tanto por nuestro bello municipio, contra viento y marea (literalmente).
Es una casa centenaria e histórica la cual se está preservando poco a poco y con mucho amor. Gracias al generoso apoyo y gran esfuerzo del colectivo de Galería Boriké, más las donaciones de amigos de Casa Boriké, esto ha sido posible. Se bautizó como la casa Boriké en honor a nuestros ancestros, y al nombre originario de nuestra isla. Lo cual significa tierra del gran valeroso o valiente. Cada vez que pronunciamos el nombre Boriké o lo escribimos, se hace honra a esta tierra sagrada y mágica. La casa es un lugar donde los visitantes pueden viajar al tiempo de nuestros abuelos por su arquitectura, y a la vez disfrutar del arte contemporáneo de artistas locales con una sensibilidad hacia el planeta, Boriké, y su gente.

Plants are essential to human survival. They provide us with everything, from nutrition, clothing, and shelter, to the air we breathe. As we grow older, I have noticed that love and a hunger for a special connection with plants grow hand in hand. And we are constantly looking for plants that could favor us from an aesthetic to a spiritual way. A few weeks ago, while working 35,000 feet from the ground, I was listening to an intriguing conversation. I was then able to understand how interesting and common the culture of plants has become, even in early generations. It’s like we unconsciously have this crazy appetite to connect with where we belong.
Yes, this is nothing new; nothing special. Perhaps it is a trend that as always we see, imitate, exploit, and forget about. That vicious cycle of turning anything into a trend without thinking about its consequences. If we focus on researching and talking about the benefits of our connection with the flora, it would take an eternity. But, I was excited to hear my colleagues share knowledge about the benefits of certain plants. In particular, the one that showed us a note from her phone with a list of mobile apps related to plants and their function. Needless to say how admirable their organization and ability was, explaining types of plants, categories, house placement,
Las plantas son cruciales para la supervivencia humana proporcionando desde nutrición, ropa, refugio así como el aire que respiramos. A medida que entramos en más edad he notado que también crece de la mano el amor y un apetito especial por la conexión con las plantas. Y vas continuamente buscándole el sentido de cuál te favorece y cuál no desde una manera estética hasta espiritual.
Hace algunas semanas trabajando y escuchando conversaciones versátiles a 35,000 mil pies de altura pude comprender cuán interesante o más bien común se ha vuelto la cultura de las plantas hasta en generaciones tempranas. Es como si inconscientemente tenemos ese loco apetito de conectar a donde pertenecemos.
Sí, esto no es nada nuevo; nada del otro mundo. Tal vez es una tendencia que como siempre nosotros los humanos vemos, imitamos, explotamos y olvidamos. Ese ciclo vicioso de volver tendencia cualquier cosa sin pensar en sus causalidades. Si nos enfocamos en indagar y hablar sobre los beneficios de la flora con la conexión humana, podemos estar una eternidad científicamente hablando. Pero, me entusiasmó escuchar a mis colegas compartir conocimientos sobre los beneficios de ciertas plantas. Sobre todo, ver como una de ellas mostraba de su teléfono una nota que constaba de una lista de aplicaciones móviles relacionadas con el tema y su función. Está demás decir su habilidad de extrema organización explicando cada tipo de planta bajo categorías de cómo y dónde era perfecto situarlas en el hogar y hasta quedar de acuerdo entre ellas para intercambiar gajitos o hijos de sus plantas.

All of it was fascinating to me! There’s so much pollution in the environment, and diseases and respiratory conditions continue increasing. So it made me wonder, and I asked them: What plants would they recommend for purifying the air at home and that at the same time serve as decoration?
First of all, plants are responsible for filtering contaminants such as benzene, xylene, ammonia, trichloroethylene, and formaldehyde. Here are their suggestions taking into account the most common pollutants on air, characteristics and availability on the market.
1.Pothos (Epipremnum aureum) or Devil’s Ivy
This is one of the most popular plants in the market, and you can get it almost everywhere. It’s resistant, doesn’t require a lot of care, and adapts easily. It is widely used to decorate offices, shopping malls, and other public places. It only needs to be watered when the dirt is dry. It helps absorb formaldehyde, xylene, and benzene.
2. Mother-in-law’s Tongue/ Saint George’s Sword (Sansevieria trifasciata) or Dracaena trifasciata
It is popular in interior decoration. It’s often referred to as the steel plant for its ability to survive in unfavorable conditions. If grown outdoors, it can withstand extreme temperatures, as long as these are sporadic. It’s very good at removing benzene, xylene, toluene, trichloroethylene, and formaldehyde.
3.Peace flower or Wind candle (Spathiphyllum sp.)
It can survive with little light and little water. It’s recommended to keep it away from air currents, so it must be placed away from air vents. They are long-lived plants. Its flower is actually a leaf wrapped around the seeds. It helps absorb all five pollutants present in the air at all times.

Aquí sus sugerencias tomando en cuenta los diversos contaminantes más comunes presentes en el aire que las plantas se encargan de filtrar como el benceno, xileno, amoníaco, tricloroetileno y formaldehído, las características de la plantas y la facilidad de conseguirlas en el mercado.

Ésta es una planta muy popular y fácil de conseguir. Es muy resistente y no requiere de grandes cuidados adaptándose fácilmente. Se utiliza ampliamente para decorar oficinas, centros comerciales y otros lugares públicos. Sólo hay que regarla cuando se note que la tierra está seca. Es eficaz absorbiendo formaldehído, xileno y benceno.
2.Lengua de suegra/ Espada de San Jorge (Sansevieria trifasciata) o Dracaena trifasciata
Es muy usada en la decoración de interiores. Tiene como ventaja de sobrevivir en condiciones desfavorables. Si se cultiva en exteriores puede aguantar temperaturas muy extremas, siempre y cuando estos sean esporádicos. Es muy buena para eliminar benceno, xileno y tolueno, tricloroetileno y formaldehído.
3.Flor de la paz o Vela del viento (Spathiphyllum sp.)
Puede sobrevivir con poca luz y poca agua. Se recomienda mantenerla lejos de las corrientes de aire osea lugares donde el viento de directo. Son plantas longevas. Su flor, en realidad, es una hoja que envuelve sus semillas. Ayuda a absorber los cinco contaminantes presentes en el aire en todo momento.
