Working in the Service Sector The UK service sector has been growing steadily, and it now employs as much as 80% of the workforce. Since the 2008 recession, the service sector has had an average yearly growth of 1.6%, making it the best-performing sector in the years 2008– 2018. The construction sector, on the other hand, has had an average growth of 1.3% (Office for National Statistics, 2018).
