Traditional British core values and multiculturalism are factors that can lead to issues in the UK. The works by the anonymous British street artist Banksy can be seen as social commentary and political activism. He is known for his graffiti, paintings, films and sculptures featured on streets, walls and bridges in cities throughout the world. ACTION 1 Make a mind map: What views do you think Banksy is trying to convey through these illustrations about issues in the UK? 2 How can Banksy's mural above be seen as racist? 3 Share your answers in groups. Agree on an explanation of each image that you can share in class. 4 Why do some people consider graffiti to be vandalism? How do Banksy’s works fit in with this idea? 5 Banksy’s art is now sold for hundreds of thousands of pounds. What type of people can afford this type of art? 6 If you were to make some form of art for a protest against class differences and inequality, what would you create? Brainstorm and share your ideas.
