Before listening to the brief texts for each listening icon below, study the illustration and make a list in pairs on how you can travel without leaving your home, e.g., watching travel documentaries, reading blogs, etc.
After listening to the texts, individually make a key word summary, and then compare and discuss in groups.
These days you can discover the entire world from the comfort of your own home. We are able to explore different places and cultures through the use of technology. This form of “living room travel” has become more common, and in the following pages we are going to explore some of the available opportunities and discuss the potential for learning.

Travel safely We are constantly bombarded online with information from a wide variety of sources. How do you sort through all the rubbish to find that one golden nugget? Some of the information is useful and true, whilst some is not. Which of the following is more likely to give you a balanced view of the world – a Different genres present different views of the world, and this affects the credibility of the information we are given. Therefore, it is important to keep in mind the intended purpose of the source. Is the purpose to entertain or to inform? To make us laugh or think? To provoke or to enlighten? Is it neutral and objective or subjective? Be critical To truly value online input, remember to evaluate its credibility. We have to ask questions and read critically. If you keep a critical mindset, you will be able to travel safely throughout the World Wide Web. See pages 38 and 221 for more on the value of a critical mindset.
