Annual: Trinity 2015

Year 11 Leadership and service have been a strong focus within the Year 11 cohort. Ms Susie Edwards Head of Year 11 In 2015, many students took up the challenge of becoming involved in Christian Service and Campus Ministry activities. Students have sought out opportunities to serve through Edmund Rice camps, Edmund Rice Outreach, the Red Cross soup patrol, street appeals, Street Soccer and the Winter Sleepout. Over 60 students volunteered as peer ministers for the Quest retreat in Term 1, where they became ‘big brothers’ to their Year 8 buddies and shared their faith journey with the younger boys. This support of others and willingness to serve is a very special trait which we hope the boys continue to demonstrate in the future. Students enjoyed a week of Christian Service prior to the Easter break. Students served in hospitals, schools, nursing homes and supportive organisations such as Activ Foundation and Shopfront. This eye-opening experience culminated in the Encounter retreat, where students shared their experiences and were encouraged to look at the world through other people’s eyes. With many stories shared, the students came away from the retreat rejuvenated and ready to tackle their senior years. The pastoral care program has focussed on Christian Service, respect and study skills this year. Frame Education delivered a number of presentations relating to respect and relationships. While Elevate Education once again provided university students to teach our students memory skills to help with their exams. These programs continue to develop students to become thoughtful, respectful, resilient and knowledgeable men in the future. The Year 11 river cruise with Mercedes College girls was the social event of the year for the Year 11 cohort. The impeccably dressed boys demonstrated to the Mercedes girls how true gentleman act, while also letting loose on the dance floor! It was a great night.

Academically, students have excelled at their studies this year, handling the increased pressure of Year 11 very well. Students have had many opportunities to spread their wings, with many students attending camps for Biology, Mathematics, Geography and Outdoor Education. The standout event of the year was the Drama production of Skate which was a fantastic success. All the actors and Miss Beth Parkinson should be congratulated on their efforts. The Year 11 councillors have been an enthusiastic and dedicated group of decision-makers this year. In March, the student council attended the GRIP Leadership Conference, which provided the boys with the motivation and ideas to set out a vision and goals for the year. The vision entailed the following four points, which encapsulate the vision of not just the councillors, but the year group as a whole: •

We will be a model for how we want Trinity College to be as a school.

We will be remembered as a cohort who is inclusive of everyone in our year group, and encourages unity between all year levels.

We will be memorable as a group who listens to what people need, and makes a noticeable different to the physical and cultural surroundings of our school.

We will be a support for all groups and teams within the school. The year group that doesn’t hold back and is fully involved in all it does. A group who is inclusive, unified and shows passion for their school.
