Roll Call

Again, 2015 was a strong year for water polo. With ten teams across the year groups, and some very talented players we are looking forward to seeing a fantastic future in water polo at Trinity College. Our inaugural senior water polo tour to California in December 2015 has been an amazing achievement for us as a water polo community and we hope to see this grow in the future.

For the senior players, the year began with many long holiday trainings, culminating in our annual water polo camp at Trinity in January. This was a great experience for the boys as they bonded in many skills sessions, scratch matches, land trainings and even some soccer and cricket matches. The night-time game was also a great success! The parents helped to keep the players well-fed and although they were not very well rested at the end of it, the boys came out with some firm friendships as well as many team skills ready to be used in the 2015 PSA season.

With new FINA rules in play, our teams were now down to six players in the pool, with a smaller pool length and smaller ball, which was an interesting experience for some. The 1st VI water polo team, led by Captain James Valentine (12.4) and Vice-captain Jarrod Ng (12.6) ended the season in an admirable fifth place, after some hard-fought battles early on against Hale School and Aquinas College. An amazing game was played against Scotch College where we drew the match with some fantastic skills shown by the boys in the pool. New junior players, Joshua Reaper (9.4) and Liam Martin (9.5) joined our more seasoned players in the first team this year, showing that this squad of boys will definitely be a team to watch in the future.

The Middle School water polo teams are still going strong under the leadership of Old Boys Mr Noah Harris (’13) and Mr Finlay Koenig-Luck (’13), and ably supported by teachers Miss Tess Warner, Mr Nick Marston and Mr Dion Mepham. Some very competitive games were played by these skilled teams. The senior teams were coached by Mr Andras Jo-Kovaks (1st VI), Mr Mitchell Zekulich (‘10) (2nd VI), Mr Brad Chapman (3rd VI), Mr Glenn Christiansen (4th VI) and Mr Chris Morris (Year 10) and all played some great games showing their skills and talents.

The Year 12 cohort of 2015 has always been a staunch supporter of Trinity water polo. Well done to our Year 12 1st VI players: Jarrod Ng (12.6), Matthew Reaper (12.4), James Turibaka (12.2), James Valentine (12.4), and particularly, Carter Fabling (12.2) and Jack Perry (12.3) who each played every first game in their senior playing years. Thank you to the 30 Year 12 students who have contributed to water polo over the last six years. We look forward to seeing you all at a TOBA match in the future. Lastly, thank you to our parent group, who is always willing to help out when needed. A particular mention needs to go to Mrs Liz Perry, who has been our parent coordinator for many years and is now stepping down from this position. Your support of Trinity water polo has been integral in our success, and I look forward to still seeing you at some games in the future.
