Badminton

The team was feeling energised and, with some extraordinary singles and doubles performances, we only narrowly lost against Aquinas College and Christ Church Grammar School. Dedication and application to training each week paid off going into the Hale School fixture with a nail-biting 5-4 win in the Foley Centre – this was a highlight for the 1st VI. Newcomers Kai Hickey (11.3) and Corey De Zoysa (12.6) had stand-out single wins and one of the most exciting doubles matches of the season.

Sadly, however, even with the experience of Liam Fernandes (12.3), Trung Le (12.4) and Luke Pereira (12.2) who gave it their all in true Trinity spirit, we could only secure one more win in the 2015 season.

Credit must be afforded to the experience and leadership of Captain Jason (Yiming) Dong (12.4) whose success on the court, enthusiasm, strength and knowledge of the game was a true asset to our team. Vice-Captain(s) Jordan Hands (12.5) and Jake Reid (12.5) were very supportive and their encouragement and leadership was greatly appreciated by the whole team. Well done to our 2nds who have shown real promise this season through dedication to training and giving it 100% in every fixture. Oliver Guazzelli (12.4), Ethan Petta (11.8), George Yip (11.8), Jordan Monastra (11.4), Trong Nguyen (11.8), Mitchell Bristow-Stagg (12.1), Alexander Gordon (12.1) and Lewis Parsons (12.6). There was some movement between 1st and 2nd teams this season and the 1st VI certainly felt the pressure of the talent and determination displayed by the 2nds. Congratulations on a good season. I also thank the 3rd and 4th teams for their consistent efforts this year. A special thanks goes to our amazing coaches and managers. Ailing Zhang – Coach (1st and 2nd teams), Mark Dodd – Team Manager (1st and 2nd teams, Term 3) and Chong-Wah Liew – Coach and Team Manager (3rd and 4th teams). Once again we thank the parents for their undying support for their boys each week, whether cheering or providing consistently wonderful morning teas.
