Cross Country
Early training sessions focussed on interval training to improve levels of fitness as quickly as possible. Squad members embraced this approach and threw themselves into some tough training sessions with a few students suffering muscle injuries due to the intensity of each session. However, these were generally quickly overcome as bodies toughened up to the workload. Results throughout the season rightly showed that we were the second-best team in the competition. A closer analysis of the results showed that, almost weekly, we were not able to field our strongest possible team due to regular occurrences of injuries, illness and absentees. This was quite frustrating because the team had the potential to match it with the best. This point was well-illustrated during the all-schools multi-leg relay held at Guildford Grammar School when Trinity scored an impressive and exciting first place. This year the team was well-led by our Captain Callum Dewsbury (12.5) and Vice-Captain Michael Wright (12.3) with both students demonstrating the qualities of very effective leadership. Their attributes of training and competing to the very best of their ability was a great example to all members of the team and I am sure the leaders in 2016 will remember and use those qualities. This year we again sent a contingent of runners to compete in the State Cross Country Championships. From that event, Thomas Moorcroft (10.4) was selected in the WA Cross Country team. Also Trinity won the boys 14 years school trophy with impressive runs by Hayden Boffey (9.1), Alexander Rossi (8.6) and Abdurahman Roach (8.6). These boys will each push for State selection in 2016 as they needed to compete against 15 year olds for their State team division selection.
We have had an amazing season which would not have been possible without the support of our Trinity parents. Thank you for supporting us in rain, wind and sunshine. Your friendly smiles, generous spirit and encouragement for the squad has made 2015 a truly special season. We look forward to having you on board next year. The focus will now move to preparation for the 2016 season. Whilst we will miss our current Year 12 students, the prospects for next year are exciting as we will challenge ourselves to go one better than 2015. It is time to reach the top after four successive years of second place. Mr Geoffrey Jamieson Cross Country Coach
