The PL Duffy Library Resource Centre Mrs Bindy Hammond Head of Library and Research It happened in the library… the PL Duffy Library! The library team consists of Head of Library and Research, Mrs Bind Hammond; Teacher Librarian, Mrs Rebecca Keshwar; Library Technician, Mrs Emma McLevie and Library Assistant, Ms Jena McDowall. As a rule, the days of blanket silence in the library are long gone. Students no longer need to perch self-consciously on the edge of the chairs and jolt with embarrassment when they drop their pencil. This year we have exhaled. The lively flow, the activity and the hum of interactions is what we try so hard to build up. Meeting everyone’s needs and expectations is a challenge. We are continuing to expand options to communicate resources to students for research and pleasure. In the library, card games, chess, collaborative study and reading co-exist. Our library hums, somewhere between noisy and silent.
Highlights Books Light Up Our World The senior library was lit up for the annual Book Week celebrations, celebrating Australian books, Australian authors and Australian illustrators. We celebrated this year with Western Australian, internationally acclaimed, author A. J. Betts visiting Trinity and talking to all students in Years 7 –9; creating Vibrobots and daily quizzes. A number of Middle School students enjoyed our lunch time activity across the week which was building a simple circuit Vibrobot bug, ably assisted by Mrs McDowall, to see if they could race them.
Book Club The Years 8 –10 Book Clubs are dedicated to fostering a student’s love of reading. Students read and share their own experiences and views of books. Students are encouraged to expand their reading horizons to new genres, offering endless adventures discovered through the rustle of the glowing pages.
