“This is what the Lord requires of you: To act justly, To love tenderly, And to walk humbly with God.” The Mission of Campus Ministry We, Campus Ministry at Trinity College, as part of the Body of Christ, are called to glorify God in all aspects of our lives. We are called to create and foster an environment where all can develop an understanding and awareness of and a personal relationship with God, who dwells in and around our neighbour and us.
In Campus Ministry I have the joy of guiding students and staff in preparing for retreats and participating in them and for helping the College community to celebrate the blessings that we receive from God in our daily lives. My favourite quote from Pope Francis is “I prefer a church which is bruised, hurting and dirty because it is out on the streets”. These words echo in my ears when I think of the participation of students and staff at Trinity in the programs we run through Campus Ministry; their enthusiasm and energy in the Becoming Brothers retreat for Year 7s and the Quest retreat for Year 8s; in the quiet reflections shared as we walk around a body of water on Year 9 Galilee retreat meditating on how God calls us in our lives, with participation of Old Boys as mentors; in the way students talk about how God is present in their lives at the Year 10 Emmaus retreats; in being invited to listen to the experiences of Year 11 students as they opened up about how they met Christ in serving others in the Encounter retreat; with the Year 12s on the Tabgha retreat meditating on the gifts they have received and share with others; and on Kairos retreats when students and staff celebrate God’s love in our lives. The same words echo in my ears as I reflect on how the students and staff have prepared for the 2015 Trinity Pilgrimage though India; in weekly meetings; helping with the Red Cross soup patrol as part of Christian Service. All these experiences can only happen because of the generosity of staff members who sacrifice their own time and time with their families to accompany our students on their faith journey. In this environment we strive to provide opportunities for spiritual growth and the building of community. Through our worship, prayer, service, study and reflection and even our leisure activities, we reach out to our campus community, the greater Perth community and the world. Within the Trinity community, we hope to engender a commitment to life-long spiritual growth, to realize the deepening of a love relationship with God and to instil an understanding of the interconnectedness of our human family, a family characterized by mercy and divine justice, by peace, love and joy.
