The resort is, at all levels, under a prism of a real summer and it can be felt in every spot, in the very essence of the resort that we enjoy in August, hot but exhilarating. It can be felt in the establishments, bars, restaurants, terraces, beach bars, and especially in the large crowds and capacities of events and car parks.

We can feel it in almost all of its facets and we are delighted that this is the case. Some of the most eagerly-awaited days of the calendar lie ahead, and also, we are going to enjoy a very special one at this editorial, Grupo HCP Sotogrande, coinciding with our 25th anniversary at El Periódico de Sotogrande.

Unfortunately, for the most coherent and consistent hemisphere of the brain, it does so at a time of great uncertainty and instability on the state’s political map. We don’t know where the story of the most voted list or the alliances of the peripheral and pro-independence parties will end, meanwhile, I am certain that we can pair all of this concern with an exceptional summer in Sotogrande.

The horses, public, and polo players are ready for an incredible season at Ayala Polo Club with the 52nd International Polo Tournament. Racers and vessels are also ready for the Sotogrande Cup Regatta, at which we are also participating with a cup and special prize, as well as at the polo. The golf clubs are ready (we are holding two events); and so is the market, avenues, and beaches. Everything is ready to enjoy another exhilarating and magical August in Sotogrande. Don’t waste it, it won’t come back.

Los que me conocen bien, saben que soy un auténtico enamorado de Sotogrande y todos sus parabienes, valores, atractivos y seductores encantos que me atan, editorialmente, desde hace más de un cuarto de siglo a este rincón único del mapa. Pero quién verdaderamente sabe de mis pasiones, puede distinguir el polo y su entorno como uno de mis entretenimientos más dinstiguidos y que más me ha hecho moverme por todo el mundo.

Siempre, con ‘La Bocha’ bajo el brazo, puedo presumir de haber promocionado y llevado el polo y Sotogrande a innumerables destinos y latitudes del planeta. Desde el lago helado de St. Mortiz, a Dubai, a Reino Unido (tanto en la Queen’s como en la Gold Cup), en Estados Unidos, Latinoamérica, Marruecos, Francia, Italia, Centroeuropa y por supuesto, a la Meca del Polo, a Argentina. Durante años, La Bocha contó con una versión impresa íntegramente en nuestro querido y amigo país argentino, con el objetivo expreso de su presencia durante al disputa de la Triple Corona.

Bien sabe, quién me conoce, que disfruto como muy pocos cada tarde a pie de cancha o en cualquier terraza con amigos, deleitándome con un buen partido de polo y explicando detalle por detalle, la esencia de este increíble deporte. Hace algunos años, aplaudimos como pocos el relevo generacional que tomaba Ayala Polo para la gestión y organización de la temporada en Sotogrande, más aún con el regreso de los 22 goles este agosto al Torneo Internacional. Pero el polo es mucho más y siempre lo fue aquí en Sotogrande.

Debemos disfrutar a la vez que cuidamos la imagen y el potencial que puede tener un evento de esta magnitud, el torneo más importante de la Europa Continental y epicentro internacional durante el verano. Es mucho lo que el polo puede dar a este entorno, no sólo durante la campaña estival, ése siempre fue el gran sueño y el verdadero objetivo. Alargar una temporada desde la primavera, lejos de la estacionalidad, para convertirnos en el gran destino de organizaciones y patrones fuera de la temporada.

Ése sigue siendo el gran reto. Nosotros mismos nos lanzamos a la piscina con la impresión de una edición de POLO by La Bocha, en pleno mes de mayo para ir calentando motores para la temporada de verano y recoger el polo que se juega fuera de la gran campaña. Aún queda camino por recorrer en ese sentido pero puestos y embarcados en este apasionante agosto, disfrutemos de este emocionante 52º TIV y de algunos de los mejores jugadores del planeta. Hagamos más destino que negocio.

Those who know me well know that I am a real devotee of Sotogrande and all of its virtues, assets, attraction, and seductive charms which have bound me, editorially speaking, for more than a quarter of a century to this unique place on the map. However, those who truly know my passions, can distinguish polo and its surroundings and one of my most distinguished forms of entertainment and the one of that has most got me travelling around the entire world.

Always, with “La Bocha” under my arm, I can boast of having promoted and taken polo and Sotogrande to endless destinations and places around the world. From the icy lake of St. Moritz, to Dubai, and the United Kingdom (both at the Queen’s and at the Gold Cup), in the United States, Latin America, Morocco, France, Italy, Central Europe, and of course, the Mecca of Polo, Argentina. For years, La Bocha had a version that was printed entirely in our beloved and friendly country of Argentina, with the express objective of its presence during the Triple Crown.

Those who know me are well aware that I enjoy, like very few do, every afternoon by a pitch or on any terrace with friends, taking delight in a good polo match and explaining, detail by detail, the essence of this incredible sport. Some years ago, we applauded like few others the generational handover that Ayala Polo was taking for the management and organisation of the season in Sotogrande, even more so with the return of the 22-goal contest this August to the International Tournament. However, polo is much more and it always was here in Sotogrande.

We must enjoy it while looking after the image and potential that an event of this magnitude can have, the most important tournament in Continental Europe and international epicentre during summer. Polo can bring a lot to this environment, not only during the summer campaign, which was always the great dream and the true objective. Extending a season from spring, far from the seasonal nature, to become the great destination of organisations and patrons outside the season. That remains the big challenge. We are diving into the pool with the impression of an edition of POLO by La Bocha, in the midst of May in order to warm up for the summer season and cover the polo that is played outside of the major campaign. There is still some way to go in this regard but focused on and embarking on this exciting August, we should enjoy this exciting 52nd International Tournament and some of the best players on the planet. Let’s make it more of a destination than a business.

August is beginning in Sotogrande and it is doing so in style with the night market opening up again to all audiences. On Wednesday and Thursday, at 19:00 at Ribera del Marlin, in Sotogrande Port, it is possible to enjoy this unique space where variety is guaranteed.

On this very special walkway, there is a completely festive and lively atmosphere that ends up attracting both locals and tourists without any kind of distinction. Here, people gather from all over the word and end up forming a cultural variety that is very interesting to observe and integrate into. Medio Ambiente pone en marcha un programa de “Educación Ambiental en Playas” de la zona

La delegación municipal de Medio Ambiente pone en marcha un programa de “Educación Ambiental en Playas”, que se va a desarrollar en todas las playas del municipio, comenzando éste sábado en Torreguadiaro. Desde la Delegación de Medio Ambiente se propone poner en marcha un programa de actividades de sensibilización ambiental que se desarrollarán en las playas de San Roque durante los fines de semana de los meses de julio y agosto.

Estas actividades de Educación, Sensibilización Ambiental y animación para usuarios de las playas, niños y mayores, “tienen como finalidad introducir a los participantes en el conocimiento

The municipal Environment department launched a “Beach Environmental Education” programme which is going to be carried out on all the beaches in the municipality, beginning this Saturday in Torreguadiaro. The Environmental Department proposes to launch a programme of environmental awareness activities that will take place on the beaches of San Roque during the weekends of July and August.

These Educational, Environmental Awareness and entertainment activities for beach users, children and adults, “are aimed at introducing participants to knowledge of our natural environment and the environmental problems we currently suffer” indicated the councillor.

The aim is to provide information to children and adults, beach users, for knowledge and conservation of the Biodiversity (Flora, Fauna, and Fungi) of coastal systems on beaches in San Roque.

To this end, between 11:30 and 13:30, there will be a beach walk to collect the children and adults, with entertainment, and during the day there will be tattoos with sea themes; face painting; pirate games; dances; sand making competitions; balloon figures; a recycling workshop; and a shell recognition workshop.

On 22, Environmental Education activities are beginning on the beach in Torreguadiaro before continuing on 29 in Puente Mayorga/Campamento; and on 30 in Guadarranque. In August, it will be in Torreguadiaro; on 6 in Cala Sardina; on 13 in Puente Mayorga/ Campamento; on 20 in Guadarranque; and on 27 in Cala Sardina

Se pretende dar información a niños y mayores, usuarios de las playas, para el conocimiento y conservación de la Biodiversidad

realizarán tatuajes con temáticas del mar; Pintacaras; Juegos piratas; Bailes; Concursos de crear con la arena; Globoflexia; Taller de reciclaje; y Taller de reconocimiento de conchas.

El día 22 comienzan las actividades de Educación Ambiental en

la playa de Torreguadiaro para seguir el 29 en Puente Mayorga/ Campamento; y el 30 en 30 Guadarranque. En agosto, él será en Torreguadiaro; el 6 en Cala Sardina; el 13 en Puente Mayorga/ Campamento; el 20 en Guadarranque; y el 27 Cala Sardina.

Panorama poselectoral

Las elecciones del 23 de julio han arrojado un resultado diferente al pronosticado por las encuestas, y un desenlace en el que la formación que ha obtenido más votos, el PP, puede no formar Gobierno, mientras que el segundo partido, el PSOE, puede terminar logrando una nueva versión del llamado “Gobierno Frankenstein”, que garantice la permanencia de Pedro Sánchez en el Palacio de la Moncloa.

Es evidente que la política de Sánchez ha conseguido un gran éxito, al lograr que tantas personas realmente crean que su Gobierno es sinónimo de “avances”, mientras que la alternativa de centro y de derecha lo es de “retrocesos”. También ha terminado siendo claro el coste de la estrategia electoral y política del PP con respecto a Vox, basada en subrayar sus diferencias, mientras que el electorado veía que lo más natural y verosímil era que se asociaran.

A partir de tales constataciones, sin embargo, la situación es incierta. No cabe reducir la cuestión a una rendición de socialistas y comunistas ante los

nacionalistas, que, amparados en su posición de fuerza, ahora con la llave en manos de Puigdemont en Waterloo, exigirán ya mismo su programa máximo de amnistía e independencia o autodeterminación. Esto no va a suceder, y los nacionalistas, bastante divididos entre sí, lo saben. También lo sabe Sánchez, que siempre puede, antes o después, amenazar con romper o directamente romper la baraja y alejarse de los nacionalistas en busca del voto moderado, y presentándose como defensor de la unidad de España. Su excelente resultado en Cataluña lo avala. Sin olvidar, naturalmente, la fuerza del PP en términos del poder territorial y su mayoría absoluta en el Senado. Entre tanto, los ciudadanos asisten al espectáculo de la política, un espectáculo que, por supuesto, financian ellos en su totalidad, y que tiene una dinámica económica preocupante en términos de finanzas públicas e inflación, en un contexto de escaso crecimiento y de restablecimiento

With a month still to go and the emotional ‘hangover’ of the Grand Gala Dinner, on the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of El Periódico de Sotogrande, held on July 12th at the emblematic Real Club Valderrama, this editorial has

good news to share with all its readers and with all the entities that participated in this unforgettable day for Grupo HCP Sotogrande.

As this newspaper announced and as each of the entities collaborating with the event

knew, there was a commitment to allocate the entire surplus budget of the gala to different actions of solidarity profile and character in the area. That is why El Periódico de Sotogrande can advance that it will allocate a donation valued

at about €5,000, to be distributed between two charities in the area, one of a charitable nature for disadvantaged people and the other animal. We can advance that, in the first term,willgototheAnimalProtection of Los Barrios and the Food

¿Sotogrande se ‘Marbelliza’?

Mis últimos seis años laborales los ejercí en Marbella y me jubilé casi tres años antes del fin del plazo máximo autorizado por no sufrir el atosigante ajetreo de esa población. Seis años dan para conocer a fondo la vida de un municipio, no sólo la diurna con sus tejemanejes de oficina pública o privada sino también la nocturna. No vayan a pensar Vds. amables lectores que al cerrar la puerta de mi notaría me dedicaba a triscar de pub en pub o de discoteca en discoteca ¡nada de eso! me venía a Sotogrande a disfrutar de su naturaleza y de su tranquilidad. Lo cual no quita que, por razones profesionales, tuviera qué, en multitud de ocasiones, levantar actas de mediciones de ruidos nocturnos o de luminosidades excesivas de anuncios, solicitadas por Comunidades de Vecinos quejosas de la falta del sosiego necesario para poder conciliar el reparador descanso nocturno. De ahí que pueda afirmar que conozco «a fondo» la vida marbellí.

Por aquellos lares tildaban a Sotogrande con un peyorativo «Soso-grande» ufanándose de su vertiginosa vida de vanidad y lujo (Sucedáneo de lujo). Efectivamente Marbella es el ejemplo paradigmático de la vida moderna basada en el consumo desaforado de los nuevos ricos ansiosos de demostrar sus recientes posesiones. Nuevos ricos a quienes casi todos los lugareños intentan imitar para no sentirse menos rumbosos que los forasteros que todo lo inundan con sus billetes. En realidad es el perfecto ejemplo de la enfermante, e insostenible vida moderna basada en la ostentación y el despilfarro. Vida sobremanera insustancial puesto que no se dedica realmente a nada: postureo y sólo vanidoso postureo donde lo razonable y cabal no tiene cabida alguna. Puro glamour casposo y un tanto fétido pues huele a dinero sucio que hay que lavar a conciencia.

Sotogrande se hace sexagenario y como muchos de tales está cayendo en la falaz creencia de que vistiéndose como un joven y tiñéndose las canas volverá a ser el joven que fue. Como si el esqueleto (Viales peatonales, ciclistas y automovilisticos), el sistema digestivo (Colectores y cloacas) y el simpático (Redes de comunicación y electricidad) pudieran arreglarse con

cosméticos y cuatro trapos.

Pero… ¿cómo fue Sotogrande de joven? Analicémoslo: A Sotogrande vinieron gentes acomodadas a buscar ese aislamiento y comodidad que pretende la verdadera riqueza: el sosiego propio de la Naturaleza. El mar, los alcornoques, las flores, los astros… no te cuestionan a cada paso, no se meten en tu vida, sólo están ahí ofreciéndote luz, calor, baños, perfumes, trinos y gorjeos…. «Solaz, tranquilidad y belleza» eran los frutos más preciados de este paraíso. Paraíso que si no lo remediamos «ya», pronto lo perderemos. Sí, definitivamente SÍ, Sotogrande se está Marbellizando a pasos agigantados: pantallas publicitarias nacen como hongos, a la par que desaparecen m2 de hierba en pro de instalar nuevos puntos de venta de cualquier producto de consumo. Sotogrande se calienta vendiéndose al falso lujo. Aquel mar, antaño helador y saludable parece ahora caldo con tropiezos (Medusas). Está claro que algunos pocos se forrarán con las nuevas promociones, pero los más habremos de sufrir a diario con la obsolescencia de las infraestructuras concebidas hace seis décadas y apenas parcheadas para que sigan tirando. Y el Ayuntamiento cobrando impuestos y sin recepcionar la urbanización no vaya a ser que tenga que invertir parte de lo cobrado.

Nuestra vecina Alcaidesa se ha tomado el futuro con ardor guerrero y no se da cuenta que empieza a rebosar de cemento, ¡cómo no! armado, pero… todos tan contentos. Realmente la Plaga humana no tenemos remedio: mataremos la gallina de los huevos de oro, nos cargaremos el Planeta.

Is Sotogrande becoming like Marbella ?

I spent my last six working years in Marbella and I retired almost three years before the end of the maximum authorised period in order not to suffer the hassling bustle of that town. Six years is enough time to really get to know the life of a municipality, not only during the day, with the goings-on of public or private office life, but also the night life. Dear readers, you must not think that when I closed the doors of my notary office I would go from pub to pub or club or club, not at all! I came to Sotogrande to enjoy its nature and its peacefulness. This doesn’t mean that, for professional reasons, I had, on a number of occasions, to produce records for noise at night or excessive light from ads, requested by Communities of Residents complaining about the lack of necessary rest in order to be able to get reparative sleep at night. Hence why I can state that I “thoroughly” know life in Marbella. In that area, the pejorative term “Soso-grande” (boring Sotogrande) was used for Sotogrande, boasting of their vertiginous life of vanity and luxury (A substitute of luxury). Indeed, Marbella is the paradigmatic example of modern life based on the unbridled consumption of the nouveau riche eager to show off their recent possessions. An exceedingly vacuous life given that it is not really dedicated to anything: Posing and only vain posing where the reasonable and classical has no place at all. Pure worn out glamour and a little stinking as it smells of dirty money that needs to be washed thoroughly.

Sotogrande is turning sixty and like many sixty year olds it is falling into the deceptive belief that by dressing like a young person and dyeing their grey hair they will return to being the young person they were It is as if the skeleton (pedestrian cycling and vehicle roads), the digestive system (drains and sewers) and the sympathetic system (communication networks and electricity) could be fixed with cosmetics and a few rags.

However... What was Sotogrande like when it was young? Lets analyse it: Wealthy people came to Sotogrande in search of the isolation and comfort that true riches seeks: the peace of Nature. The sea, cork oaks, flowers, stars... Don’t question you with every step, they don’t intrude in your life, they are simply there offering you light, colour, swimming, perfumes, singing and chirping... “Solace, peacefulness and beauty” were the most valued fruits of this paradise. A paradise that if we don’t resolve “now” we will soon lose.

Yes, definitively YES, Sotogrande is becoming like Marbella in giant strides: advertising screens are popping up like mushrooms, just as m2 of grass are disappearing for the sake of installing new points of sale for any consumer product. Sotogrande is heating up by selling itself to false luxury. That sea, once icy and healthy now seems hot with obstacles (jellyfish). It is clear that a few people will make lots of money with the new developments, but most of us will have to suffer on a daily basis with the obsolescence of the infrastructure designed six decades ago and barely patched up in order to keep them going. And the Council will continue charging taxes and without the resort receiving unless it is necessary to invest part of what has been collected.

Our neighbouring Alcaidesa has seized the future with warlike enthusiasm and doesn’t realise that it is beginning to overflow with concrete, reinforced of course, but...everyone is so happy. In fact, the human plague has no cure: we will kill the goose that lays the golden eggs, we will destroy the planet.

La Fundación Esperanza y Alegría celebra el próximo martes 8 y miércoles 9 de agosto, en Trocadero Sotogrande, el tradicional Bazar Solidario de la India.

El objetivo de este evento es recaudar fondos y destinarlos al sostenimiento de los proyectos que actualmente la Fundación Esperanza y Alegría tiene en marcha, como los orfanatos, los proyectos de salud, agua y saneamiento

y las siete escuelas socio-deportivas que mantiene en India en colaboración con la Fundación Realmadrid y Ferrovial; así como los programas para personas en riesgo de exclusión social que desarrolla en España.

Este evento, que la Fundación organiza de manera anual, ha contribuido a hacer realidad los más de 70 proyectos que, a lo largo de sus 21 años de historia, ha desarrollado en 22

países repartidos entre Asia, África, América Latina y España. Ha llegado a alcanzar los más de 250.000 beneficiarios directos. India Bazaar returns to Sotogrande, on 8 and 9 August

On Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 9 August, the Hope and Joy Foundation is hosting the traditional Charity India Bazaar at Trocadero Sotogrande.

The aim of this event is to raise funds and allocate them to supporting the projects that the Hope and Joy Foundation currently has underway, such as orphanages, health projects, water and sanitation and the seven social-sporting schools that it has in India in collaboration with the Real Madrid Foundation and Ferrovial; as well as the programmes for people at

risk of social exclusion that it carries out in Spain.

This event, which the Foundation organises annually, has contributed to making the 70 projects a reality that, over its 21 years of history, it has carried out in 22 countries spread around Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Spain. It has ended up reaching more than 250,000 direct beneficiaries.

The Charity Bazaar will be open to the public continuously from 11:00 to 21:00 and entry is free. There will be a wide variety of

stands with craft goods, jewellery, Indian clothing, cosmetics, clothing for children and home linen, typical Indian accessories, Japanese silks, costume jewellery, etc.

El Supermercado El Corte Inglés de Sotogrande quiso acercar el arte del tradicional ronqueo de atún rojo en una exhibición para sus clientes. Esta cita se produjo de la mano de dos expertos cortadores que mostraron al público como se realizaba esta técnica, en el que los espectadores quedaron asombrados. Tras dicho acto, se pudo degustar y adquirir el producto.

Una cita inolvidable para todos los asistentes que pudieron disfrutar de la exhibición con profesionales cortadores, aprendiendo so-

El ronqueo es una técnica milenaria que se utiliza para el despiece el atún rojo, uno de los productos más característicos de la zona, que

La palabra ronqueo proviene del ruido que hace el cuchillo al rozar el espinazo del atún salvaje.

lograr una ventaja suficiente durante el resto del encuentro hasta el marcado final. También conocemos los ganadores de la Copa de Bronce en el resto de categorías. En el Mediano HCP, Amana Polo superó por 11-7 al conjunto de Electric Polo para llevarse el trofeo; mientras que en el Bajo HCP fue Cotton House quién

se impuso a La Capilla Strabrock, por un marcador final de 9-4,5.

Aún restan los dos torneos más importantes de la temporada, como son la Copa de Plata y la Copa de Oro. Desta-

car también que de manera especial, por el 25 Aniversario de El Periódico de Sotogrande, también se celebrará una Copa Especial con motivo de la efeméride del emblemático periódico.

Sainte Mesme takes the lead in Sotogrande and wins the Bronze Cup in the Highlands

A High level that already has the first winners of the season, after the Bronze Cup, a start in style with everything ready at Ayala Polo Club for the biggest sporting event of the summer in southern Europe. The Sainte Mesme team was proclaimed winner of the High HCP Bronze Cup after beating the Dos Lunas La Hacienda quartet in the final with a resounding 17-9.

The team formed by: Robert Strom, Carlos M. Ulloa, Marcos Araya and Santi Laborde managed to withstand the rhythmic and even start of the match and demonstrate their offensive potential from the third chukker and achieve a sufficient advantage during the rest of the match until the final score. We also know the winners of the Bronze Cup in the other categories.

• El juego

En un partido de polo se enfrentan dos equipos formados, cada uno, por cuatro jugadores que compiten por meter más goles en el arco contrario (la portería) en 4 o 6 períodos de juego denominados “chukkers”.”Cada chukker dura 7 minutos y tiene tres minutos de tiempo muerto entre ellos, periodo que se utiliza para cambiar de caballo. Después de cada gol se cambia de lado.

• Palabras clave

Bocha: Pelota blanca hecha de plástico o madera con la que se juega al polo. (Precisamente la revista de polo de este grupo editorial lleva su nombre: Polo by La Bocha).

Campana: Elemento clave del partido, que suena cada vez que concluye un chukker.

Cancha: Es el espacio donde se juega al polo y su tamaño supera al de tres campos de fútbol.

Referees: Son los árbitros del partido, uno para cada lado de la cancha. Normalmente van vestidos con equipación a rayas blancas y negras. Van a caballo.

Banderilleros: Ayudantes que determinan si un gol es bueno o no.

Taco: Es el palo con el que se juega al polo. Está compuesto por un eje de caña de bambú flexible y una cabeza de madera rígida.

Gradas: Es donde se sienta el público para ver el partido.

Patrón: Es el dueño de un equipo de polo.

Petisero: El cuidador y entrenador de los petisos de polo.

Mimbres: Las columnas que determinan el arco, la portería. Están construidas para que se destruyan fácilmente en caso de choques, para no lastimar a caballos o jinetes.

Palenque: Espacio en el que establecen su base los equipos y permacen los caballos durante el encuentro.

- The game

In a polo match two teams each consisting of four players, compete to score the most goals in the opposing goal (the goal) in 4 or 6 periods of play called “chukkers”. El ritual del palenque, una íntima liturgia del polo

Cualquier aficionado al polo está acostumbrado a disfrutar de los partidos desde las gradas. Desde allí, pueden ver cómo jinetes y caballos corren de un extremo a otro de la cancha en pos de la bocha. Lo que el público no suele poder ver es lo que ocurre en los palenques antes de cada partido. Jinetes, petiseros y caballos comparten este espacio en una calma hipnótica que no se parece en nada al frenesí que se vivirá cuando comience el encuentro. Los caballos son mimados en los palenques para que afronten el partido en las mejores condiciones. Mangueras y ventiladores no faltan para ayudar a estos animales a combatir el sofocante calor del verano.

Los petiseros se dedican a ajustar las correas, las monturas y algo muy importante, las protecciones para las patas que eviten heridas producidas por la bocha o con el mazo.

Cuando los caballos están equipados, se pone a trotar un poco a los

Va a empezar el partido. Los jinetes se dirigen al centro y tras sonar el himno, la bocha empieza a rodar y ellos toman todo el protagonismo mientras en los palenques se instala una falsa calma que durará el resto del encuentro.

La emblemática cancha de Paniagua en Sotogrande

El polo y Sotogrande forman un binomio intrínseco y fuertemente ligado desde los inicios de la urbanización. La influencia de Enrique Zobel y su idea de asentar el polo como uno de los pilares en la personalidad del resort es a día de hoy, más de seis décadas después, un pilar sin el que es complicado entender el estilo de vida de Sotogrande y su comunidad.

En este caso, como bien ilustran las imágenes, POLO by La Bocha quiere recordar ese periodo y etapa entre dos ciclos muy importantes para el polo en la urba-

nización como fue el salto entre finales de los años 70 y los años 80. Especialmente con el periodo en la que se mantuvo muy activa la cancha de Paniagua, afincada en uno de los entornos más privilegiados de Sotogrande.

Recordar que fue, por situar en contexto, en 1973 cuando se celebró la primera edición de Copa de Plata en el Torneo de Verano, cuyo vencedor fue el equipo de Sotogrande y precisamente, al año siguiente se inauguró la cancha de polo de Paniagua. Para fijar un poco más de información a este respecto, destacar su

enorme importancia durante algunos momentos de la historia del resort, ya que un fuerte temporal y crecida de agua se llevó por delante la cancha de la playa en 1984.

La cancha de Paniagua acogió numerosos encuentros e inolvidables trofeos con toda la esencia del polo en Sotogrande. Destacar que meses más tarde al incidente de la cancha de la playa se comenzó con la construcción de unas nuevas canchas que tomarían el relevo de Panigua (ya prácticamente en desuso) canchas de Río, que entre 1985 y

1986 tomaría el relevo de Paniagua y se convertirían durante años en la sede central de los torneos de polo en la urbanización. En ese momento las nuevas canchas junto al río (con acceso actual por calle Ramiro el montje), serían renombradas bajo las denominaciones de Sotogrande I y Sotogrande II. Destacar como dato histórico que la edición de 1989 quedará marcada en el histórico por su obligada suspensión a causa de la peste equina.

La evolución del destino seguiría creciendo con las canchas de Puente de Hierro, fundadas en 1992; y años más tarde, en 1995,

se construyeron las canchas de Haciendas de San Enrique I y II, otro gran avance de instalaciones políticas en la zona. En 1998 participaron por primera vez más de 1.000 caballos en el torneo, un paso hacia delante que puso en marcha un crecimiento exponencial año tras año, edición tras edición, que iría aumentando por encima de la treintena los equipos profesionales participantes torneo cada verano en Sotogrande. Diez años más tarde, en 2008, llega el salto definitivo a nivel cuantitativo y cualitativo con la inauguración de la zona de Los Pinos de Santa María Polo Club.

Emblematic Paniagua field in Sotogrande

Polo and Sotogrande form an intrinsic pairing and strongly linked since the beginnings of the resort. The influence of Enrique Zobel and his idea of establishing polo as one of the pillars in the character of the resort is now, more than six decades later, a pillar without which it is difficult to understand the lifestyle of Sotogrande and its community.

In this case, as the images illustrate well, POLO by La Bocha wants to remember that period and stage between two very important cycles for polo in the resort, namely the leap between the end of the 70’s and the 80’s. Especially with the period in which the field at Paniagua remained very active, based in one of the most privileged parts of Sotogrande.

It is worth remembering that, to provide context, in 1973 when the first edition of the Silver Cup took place in the Summer Cup, won by the Sotogrande team and indeed, the Paniagua polo field opened the following year. To offer a little more information in this regard, it is worth highlighting its enormous importance during some moments in the history of the resort, as a strong storm and flood wiped out the beach pitch in 1984.

The Paniagua field hosted several matches and unforgettable trophies with all the essence of polo in Sotogrande.

It is worth highlighting that months after the incident of the beach field, construction began on new pitches that would take over from Paniagua (now practically unused), the Río fields, which between 1985 and 1986 would take over from Paniagua and for years become the main venue for polo tournaments in the resort. At that point, the new fields next to the river (with entrance on the current Calle Ramiro el Montje) would be remained as Sotogrande I and Sotogrande

II As an historic figure it is worth highlighting that the 1989 edition will go down in history as it was forced to be suspended due to horse sickness.

The evolution of the destination would continue to grow with the fields of Puente de Hierro, founded in 1992; and years later, in 1995 the Haciendas de San Enrique pitches I and II were built, another great advance in polo facilities in the area. In 1998, more than 1,000 horses participated in the tournament for the first

time, a step forward that launched exponential growth year after year, edition after edition, which increased to over thirty professional teams participating in the tournament each summer in Sotogrande.

Ten years later, in 2008, the definitive leap at a quantitative and qualitative level came with the opening of the Los Pinos area at Santa María Polo Club.

tico calendario de polo este agosto en la zona. Se trata de

cuatro torneos divididos en diferentes fechas que se disputarán a lo largo de este mes. Como los torneos de polo tradicional a medida que se va jugando van aumentando el nivel de la competición, lo único diferente son sus nombres que pasan de ser bronce, plata, oro y platino a llamarse esmeralda, sapphiere, ruby y diamond [durante los cuatro fines de semana de agosto, respectivamente].

El primero de ellos, el torneo esmeralda, será del 2 al 6 de agosto y durante el resto de semanas se irán consolidando las siguientes competiciones. Un evento que se realizará en las magníficas instalaciones de La Capilla Polo Club en el mes del polo y que espera atraer a todos los amantes del polo a este evento tan especial.

La Capilla, just 5 minutes from Sotogrande, is organising a fantastic polo calendar this August in the area. There are four tournaments divided into different dates to be played throughout the month. As traditional polo tournaments increase in level as they are played, the only difference is their names, which change from bronze, silver, gold and platinum to emerald, sapphiere, ruby and diamond [during the four weekends in August respectively].

The first of these, the emerald tournament, will run from 2-6 August, with the remaining weeks consolidating the following competitions. An event that will be held at the magnificent facilities of La Capilla Polo Club in the month of polo and that hopes to attract all polo lovers to this very special event.

How to use the holidays to encourage creativity in a relationship?

What type of relationship? We are going to imagine a friendship, which serves as the basis for other healthy personal relationships. The idea is that holidays offer quality time to devote yourself and others, no? Let’s see how we can better use relaxation time to reset monotony and turn it into new ideas and turn reproaches into requests. Below, some keys that encourage this:

1. Mutual respect and acceptance. When you feel good, share it. Share moments of enjoyment and take the chance to show, during them, utmost respect and consideration for the values and beliefs of the other person.

2. Take the chance to expose the other person to new ideas. It is time to read new books, search for different films to watch, visit an exhibition or art gallery, go to a concert, dance and, ultimately, do things that challenge perspectives, without imposing, but while having fun.

3. Encourage the other person to ask questions and suggest topics that interest them. If they are different to what they are used to, even better. You can ask open questions, aimed at the future, which help to imagine new scenarios.

4. Take the chance to encourage creative activities through sport, excursions, writing, painting, or any other form of art, no matter what kind.

5. During group meetings with friends and family, try to bring up fun topics of conversation that encourage creativity. Sport, games, trips, discoveries, etc. Avoid talking about problems and situations that you know can lead to complaints.

6. Suggest mental games that require creative solutions that are outside of the ordinary. There are lots of games, puzzles and imaginary scenarios around which it is possible to create interesting and fun conversations.

7. Make an effort to keep an atmosphere joyful, with constructive feedback and avoiding constructive judgements and criticisms. Award what inspires you about the attitude of the other and, simply ignore what doesn’t. If you find that you need to ignore almost everything, it is perhaps advisable to seek professional help from a conflict mediator.

Los Cursos de Verano del Colegio San José han convocado este año a centenares de niños procedentes de Marbella, Estepona y Campo de Gibraltar.

Del 1 al 10 ¿cuánto vales?

Puede parecer una pregunta de una sesión de psicología o coaching, hasta el encabezado de un capítulo de un libro de esa temática, o una pregunta de un asesor de negocios, siendo posible todas y más opciones, es la pregunta que algunas organizaciones y algunos gobiernos están comenzando a hacerse sobre los humanos.

Nos encantan las categorías, clasificaciones, listados y métricas pero que ocurre si lo aplicamos a la personas. Que ocurre si te digo que en función de cuánto vales podrás acceder a un crédito, obtener reserva en un restaurante, conducir a determinadas horas, comer determinadas calorías o comprar objetos que no sean de primera necesidad. Claramente ocurre de manera más limitada a nivel social, si eres famoso puedes conseguir una reserva en aquel restaurante de moda pero no hablo de eso.

Hablo de que como personas tengamos una puntuación según nuestros comportamientos, redes sociales, interacción social, logros deportivos, estado de salud, etc., y que esa puntuación te permita acceder a un trabajo mejor pagado, acceso a vivienda, comprar billetes de avión, elegir colegio de tus hijos, automatizar tu trabajo. Realmente eso es el dinero, si tienes más puedes acceder a ciertas cosas pero, ¿y si la puntuación no depende totalmente de ti?.

Y si piensas que es una locura, pues la realidad supera todo, ya que en 2014 el Partido Comunista

Chino presentó las líneas maestras para implementar un programa de estas características, el sistema se instaló en varias ciudades del país y el objetivo era tenerlo operativo en todo el país en 2020, con lo que podrían controlar el comportamiento y la vida diaria de más de 1.300 millones de personas. Claro, 2020, llegó el COVID , la guerra de Rusia, y el programa… ¿se ha implementado?

Vivir así es vivir en tensión, pues todo suma y todo resta. Si tienes pocos puntos olvídate de pedir un préstamo a cualquier banco o de acceder a servicios básicos. Tampoco podrás alojarte en un hotel de lujo o adquirir un coche de alta gama. Está prohibido incluso mandar a los niños a un colegio privado de cierto nivel, una cosa habitual para ejecutivos que pueblan la zona y que gustan de enviar a sus niños a centros internacionales.

Ya sabemos que los gobiernos comunistas no son ejemplo de respetar los derechos humanos ni de favorecer el esfuerzo personal, pero utilizar la tecnología en ese sentido es dar una vuelta de tuerca al trato de las personas como meras piezas de un sistema controlado por unos pocos. Esta creación tecnológica de ciudadanos de segunda unido al oscurantismo con el que se llevan este tipo de programas está comenzando a generar preguntas y debates entre diversos especialistas, por qué quién cuantifica, por qué algo es mejor o peor, se anulan libertades o es una

It may seem like a question from a psychology or coaching session, or even the heading of a chapter from a book of that subject matter, or a question from a business advisor, with all and more options possible, it is the question that some organisations and some governments are beginning to ask about humans.

We love categories, classifications, lists and metrics but what happens if we apply it to people. What happens if I tell you that according to your rating you can access credit, get a booking at a restaurant, drive at certain times, eat certain calories or purchase items that are not essentials. Clearly, this occurs in a more limited way on a social level, if you are famous you can get booking at a trendy restaurant but I won’t even talk about that.

I am talking about how people have a score according to our behaviour, social networks, social interaction, social interaction, sporting achievements, health status, etc., and score would enable you to get a better paid job, access housing, purchase plane tickets, choose the school of your children, automate your job. That is really what money is, if you have

El Santa María Equestrian Club acogió el “Beauty & Fashion Sotogrande 2023”, un evento de tres días, donde el mundo ecuestre y la moda se dan la mano en un entorno único como es Sotogrande. El “Beauty & Fashion Sotogrande 2023” es un evento que durante tres jornadas reunión arte, moda y lujo mientras se disputaba el Concurso Nacional de Saltos 2 Estrellas.
