En muchísimas ocasiones nos conformamos con seguir haciendo lo que habitualmente llevamos a cabo, seguir la corriente de lo establecido o bien, directamente, esa desidia de no implicarnos en un mayor desafío. Una de las grandes vertientes y valores que debe prevalecer en un destino del nivel, calidad y proyección como Sotogrande debe ser, de cara a medio y largo plazo, encontrar ese equilibrio de servicio de gran nivel con una alta implicación en sostenibilidad. Una premisa tremendamente importante de cara al futuro de la urbanización (espacios verdes, saneamientos, recursos hídricos o ruidos y otros contaminantes sonoros y de todo tipo).
En los últimos años se defendió con uñas y dientes la oposición al fondeadero frente al literal sanroqueño; algo que no termina de estar resuelto para tranquilidad de todos. Como ahora también, un grupo de ecologistas (no siempre con la razón a su favor, pero con argumentos siempre interesantes de escuchar), advierten de ciertos peligros y especial atención con parte de la costa de la zona de la desembocadura del río Guadiaro y su Estuario.

También pueden leer en las páginas de esta edición, la primera del mes de junio, como se está llevando a cabo una importante (y algo molesta) actuación en el bulevar de Torreguadiaro, con una obra desde el aparcamiento de la playa hasta bien entrada la zona urbanizada. Se trata de una desviación de los conductos de saneamiento que en pleno 2024 y con todas las ventajas ambientes que tiene la zona (también para lo que debería ser la segunda fase del paseo marítimo), debe estar lejos de la playa, de la costa y conectada en la parte alta.
Las obras son molestas, obvio, pero todo si se encamina hacia un destino más sostenible y ejemplar, medioambientalmente, conseguiremos seguir siendo referencia. Como ya los somos aprovechando horas de luz solar y con nuevos diseños en arquitectura destinados a casas que se autoabastecen energéticamente. Todo ello lejos de un sesgo ‘woke’, pero implicados hacia un futuro mejor.
In recent years, there has been fierce opposition to the anchoring ground off the cost of San Roque, a matter that has not been resolved to bring peace of mind for everyone. And now too, a group of environmentalists (who aren’t always right but who always have interesting points to hear), have warned of certain dangers and paying special attention to part of the coast in the area of the mouth of the Guadiaro River and its Estuary.
In the pages of this edition, the first of June, you can also read about how an important (and somewhat annoying) action is being carried out on Torreguadiaro boulevard, with work stretching from the beach car park to well into the urbanized area. It involves a diversion of the sewage pipes that in 2024 and with all the environmental benefits that the area has (also for what the second phase of the promenade should be), must be far from the beach, from the coastline and connected to the upper area.
The work is obviously annoying but if everything is aimed at creating a more sustainable destination that is environmentally exemplary, then we will remain as a benchmark. As we already are by harnessing the hours of sunlight and with new architectural designs targeted at homes that supply their own energy. All far from a ‘woke’ bias but involved in creating a better future.

Estos días, prácticamente horas, están coincidiendo la salida de esta primera edición de junio de El Periódico de Sotogrande, con a unos de los procesos más determinantes y trascendentales a los que se enfrentan por primera vez en sus vidas miles de jóvenes: la PAU [Prueba de Acceso a la Universidad]. Un vértice y punto de inflexión que les permitirá decidir y saltar hacia lo que será su futuro, su trayectoria profesional y, en definitiva, su vida. No siempre lleno de certidumbre y con grandes problemas generacionales a los que hacerle frente: el desempleo entre jóvenes con titulación universitaria, precariedad salarial, acceso a la vivienda, pensiones, etc.
A dish for the PAU’s and Messi
These days, practically hours, with the release of this first June edition of El Periódico de Sotogrande, are coinciding with one of the most decisive and significant processes that thousands of young people face in their lives: the PAU exam (University Entrance Exam). An apex and turning point that will enable them to decide and leap into what their future, their professional career and, ultimately, their life, will be like. Not always full of certainty and with major generational problems to face: unemployment among young people with university degrees, wage precarity, access to housing, pensions, etc.
Lejos de todo ese pesimismo, al contrario, transmit todo ese apoyo y empuje que sus 18 años le permiten para luchar por aquello por lo que creen y sueñan. Así se forman las grandes historias. Y si alguno apuesta por el periodismo, tranquilo, las nuevas tecnologías no son el enemigo, son una herramienta que te permitirá ser más eficiente y mejor profesional. Aquí llevamos desde 1998 y quién escriben, desde 2013. Y todos los grandes cambios han supuesto también grandes avances profesionales y empresariales. Todavía nos quedan muchas historias que contar sobre Sotogrande. Como la del otro Pau, el dos veces campeón de la NBA y medallista olímpico, Gasol de apellido. El que es considerado, junto a Rafa Nadal, uno de los mejores portistas españoles de la historia nos visitará (una vez más) gracias al golf. Y esta vez no lo hace sólo. Lo hará del 19 al 22 de junio, con su fundación, para luchar a través del deporte contra la obesidad infantil. Con una suerte de torneo de golf solidario, por equipos, en el que además reunirá en La Hacienda Golf a varios de los rostros más conocidos del deporte nacional e internacional, junto a grandes empresarios de éxito. Una fusión especial y que tendremos la suerte de vivir desde cerca.
Sí se fijan en la ilustración de esta tribuna de opinión, nos hemos permitido el lujo de jugar con la IA para imaginar una cena de estos dos genios del deporte, Pau y Leo Messi. Ambos comparten una carne, por qué no, en la impresionante terraza de Hincha, en el puerto deportivo de Sotogrande. Precisamente, horas antes de mandar a rotativa este ejemplar, abría sus puertas y se inauguraba el nuevo restaurante de la cadena del futbolista argentino, que se convertirá en la referencia gastronómica del renovadísimo MiM Sotogrande. Cuya apertura aún tendrá que esperar unas semanas más. Sotogrande crece en proyectos, nombres y gestos. Éste es uno más hacia el increíble futuro que vamos a vivir en los próximos ejercicios en la urbanización.

El trayecto en autopista entre Sotogrande y Málaga vuelve a subir este verano
• Con el comienzo de la campaña estival el peaje vuelve a subir en la A-7.
• El viaje ida y vuelta, por autopista, entre Sotogrande y la capital malagueña rozará los 40€.
El inicio del periodo estival, el clima cálido junto con los desplazamientos de turistas y vecinos de la zona hace que el precio del peaje vuelva a incrementarse un año más.
La temporada de verano para Sotogrande es intensa con grandes eventos, ocio y por supuesto turismo, que lo hace desde distintos puntos de España, gran parte del extranjero y también desde localidades vecinas como la Costa del Sol.
Un destino que dicta de tomar la A-7, que bordea toda la Costa del Sol, o la AP-7, con menos tráfico, pero con un coste extra.

Los precios en temporada alta 2021 (junio, julio y agosto) estaban: Guadiaro 3,35€; San Pedro 5,20€; y Calahonda 7,70€.
Con estos datos, y comparándolos con los del 2021 el precio ha aumentado un 16% en cuatro años.
Unos datos que no dejan de aumentar año tras año y que en 2021 estaba en 32, 5 y actualmente el trayecto completo (ida y vuelta) tiene un coste de 37, 7.

The Ministry of Transport
and Sustainability Mobility has announced the price of the toll in 2025 with price increases compared to last year. This new record includes the tolls of Calahonda, San Pedro de Alcántara, and Manilva. The AP-7 is the quickest and most convenient way to reach Malaga capital, but next summer it will have an increase with the complete stretch costing almost €20

Alquilar balcones
En mi Argentina natal y varios países latinoamericanos se emplea la expresión “alquilar balcones” para indicar un acontecimiento muy notable o atractivo que merece ser visto. La situación de la vivienda en España puede tener el amargo desenlace de que los balcones no se alquilen para contemplar espectáculos notables sino simplemente para vivir.
Parece que el sector inmobiliario español afronta una tormenta perfecta. El incremento de la demanda se ha combinado con una restricción de la oferta, debido a las trabas legislativas y regulatorias, y, para colmo de males, las políticas intervencionistas se han extendido por todo el país y son irresponsablemente defendidas por todos los partidos políticos. Caso emblemático es el de Cataluña, y en especial Barcelona, donde en la práctica el intervencionismo ha hecho desaparecer las viviendas en alquiler, y casi se ha dejado de construir.
El año 2024 fue positivo para el sector, y aumentaron las ventas. Sin embargo, como analizó BBVA Research, “la nueva oferta siguió siendo insuficiente para satisfacer la demanda”, una demanda que todo sugiere que continuará creciendo en el futuro. “La falta de suelo finalista debido, en gran medida, a la complejidad burocrática de los procesos de transformación del suelo y la escasez de mano de obra especializada complican el inicio de nuevos proyectos”. Ante una demanda persistente y una oferta insuficiente, “al precio no le queda otra alternativa que seguir creciendo, en torno al 6,5% en promedio anual, algo más en 2025 que en 2026, como consecuencia de la desaceleración que se observa para la economía”.
Renting balconies
In my native Argentina and several Latin American countries, the expression “renting balconies” is used to indicate a highly notable or appealing event that is worth seeing. The housing situation in Spain may have a bitter outcome where balconies are not rented for watching important spectacles, but rather simply to live on.
It seems that the Spanish property sector is facing the perfect storm. The increase in demand has been combined with a restriction on the offer, due to legislative and regulatory obstacles, and to make matters worse, interventionist policies have spread around the entire country and are irresponsibly defended by all the political parties.
An emblematic case is that of Catalonia, particularly Barcelona, where the practice of interventionism has led to rental properties disappearing, and building has almost stopped.

Estoicismo en la Empresa: Liderazgo con Virtud
A lo largo de más de dos décadas como directivo en compañías como Johnson & Johnson, Kellogg’s, Grupo IFA o Evo Banco, he visto muchas veces cómo el verdadero liderazgo no se define por el cargo ni por los resultados a corto plazo, sino por la capacidad de actuar con rectitud cuando nadie mira. Es ahí donde el estoicismo, lejos de ser una filosofía antigua y ajena al mundo corporativo, se convierte en una brújula moral que guía nuestras decisiones más complejas.
El estoicismo propone que no podemos controlar los acontecimientos, pero sí nuestras reacciones. It seems like yesterday, but ten years have passed since that unexpected call that marked a turning point in my professional life. Without seeking it or expecting it, I found an incredible job alongside a team of staff that surpassed all my expectations.
Today, I have lovely memories of all the colleagues who, for a short or long period, shared part of their journey with me at BM Sotogrande. Each of them left their mark on this experience which has undoubtedly been transformative.
I was coming out of a difficult period, a previous experience that had eroded my selfesteem. So, Arriving at BM was
like getting a breath of fresh air: a chance to believe in myself again, regain trust and believe, not only as a professional, but also as a person.
From deep down, I want to thank Bradley and Kaye, who offered me this opportunity inJune2015.Thanksfortrusting in me, for opening the door to such an enriching work environment. Working at BM is different each day, and that makes it a special place.

Actuación en Torreguadiaro para corregir la red de saneamientos lejos del litoral
• Las obras están previstas que finalicen antes de acabar el mes de junio y no afectarán a todo el bulevar. Los cortes y levantamiento de calzada se realizan por tramos.
Una actuación importante y fundamental para el futuro a medio y largo plazo de Torreguadiaro, desde un perfil de sostenibilidad y mejora de infraestructuras, que permitirá corregir la red de saneamientos lejos de la costa y ubicarla en la zona alta de la barriada. Las pertinentes obras, con sus correspondientes molestias e incomodidades para los vecinos al inicio de la temporada, se están llevando a cabo con gran celeridad y deberían estar finalizadas antes de acabar el mes de junio, según ha podido conocer El Periódico de Sotogrande, por fuentes consultadas con Arcgisa, quien coordina estos trabajos.
Tanto desde el punto de vista de infraestructuras, para desplazar los saneamientos de la
zona más cercana al litoral (y preservar también así todos los activos desde el punto de vista
ecológico en el entorno, como la bandera azul y otros certificados en sostenibilidad); es preciso llevar a cabo una actualización y corrección estos conductos de saneamiento. Además, también debería ser una acción fundamental para el próximo desarrollo de la segunda fase del paseo marítimo de Torreguadiaro, que abarca dicha zona en cuestión. Según fuentes consultadas por este medio a la empresa de agua y residuos comarcal, las obras avanzan a un muy buen ritmo y deberían estar acabadas para finales del mes de junio. Los cortes y levantamiento de calzada se están realizando por tramos para tratar de alte-
rar lo menos posible la vida ru tinaria de los vecinos y visitantes, con mayor interés ya que estamos inmersos en el inicio de la temporada alta estival. Estos trabajos sólo afectarán desde los aparcamientos de la playa hasta el primer tramo del bulevar (hasta el inicio de los bloques, aproximadamente). Lógicamente son varias las molestias e incomodidades que una actuación de este calado está generando en la zona y entre los vecinos (tránsito de vías de servicio, aparcamiento, etc.). Pero a todas luces una actuación que debería finalizar en pocos días y mejorar considerablemente las infraestructuras y servicios en la barriada.

Verdemar denuncian que, una vez aprobada la Estrategia para la Protección de la Costa de Cadiz, Málaga y Almería, las administraciones han dejado de lado estas playas siendo un claro efecto del cambio climático y que han sufrido una erosión acelerada.
Los ecologistas hacen especial hincapié a la playa de Soto-
grande y Guadalquitón señalando que las actividades humanas, como las captaciones de agua, trasvases y la extracción de áridos, han provocado la pérdida de miles de metros cúbicos de guijarros, que históricamente contribuían a la regeneración natural de la playa. Además, los espigones verticales que se instalados como medida de protección no han logrado frenar
el deterioro, sino que han empeorado la situación, según afirma Verdemar Verdemar comunica que el avance erosivo ha provocado que la línea de playa en el entorno del Paraje Natural del Guadiaro haya retrocedido más de 140 metros. La situación actual es que las viviendas construidas antes de la aprobación de la Ley de Costas están en riesgo por su cercanía.
Además, desde la organización advierte que este proceso erosivo está poniendo en peligro especies protegidas y endemismos que habitan en la zona de Guadalquitón. Hacen un llamado urgente a las autoridades para que implementen medidas efectivas y rápidas que detengan este avance antes de que sea irreversible.

Verdemar reports that the erosion has caused the beachfront around the Guadiaro Natural Park to retreat more than 140 meters. The current situation is that homes built before the approval of the Coastal Law are at risk due to their proximity.
Furthermore, the organization warns that this erosion pro-
cess is endangering protected and endemic species that inhabit the Guadalquitón area. They urgently call on
the authorities to implement effective and rapid measures to halt this advance before it becomes irreversible.

San Roque celebra un cumpleaños muy especial
• El 319 aniversario de la Ciudad de San Roque congrega una gran selección de actividades, eventos, citas, conciertos, talles y degustaciones en el municipio. El pleno de distinciones y un gran número de eventos desplazados al fin de semana animan un aniversario por todo lo alto.
Las ocasiones especiales, como siempre, merecen una celebración por todo lo alto. La ciudad de San Roque se engalanó y preparo de una manera muy especial con motivo del 319 aniversario desde la constitución, con una importante agenda de actos y actividades para que disfruten todos los vecinos del municipio. Una programación de gran interés y atractivo que llevó desde el Pleno Institucional de Honores y Distinciones hasta actividades en la Plaza de las Constituciones, muchas de ellas, desplazadas con gran acierto hacia el fin de semana contiguo al festivo.
Desde San Roque se invitó a la población (y respondió con gran afluencia) a sumarse a la celebración preparando, entre otros detalles, sus balcones con banderolas y colgantes. Para facilitar esta tarea, desde la Delegación de Cultura se facilitó una serie de balconeras de manera gratuita en el Palacio de Los Gobernadores, el edificio de la Casa Consistorial y en las alcaldías de barrio.
En otro de los actos cumbre en cada año de la celebración, el Pleno Institucional de Honores y
Distinciones, celebrado como es habitual en el Teatro Juan Luis Galiardo, repartió un total de doce reconocimientos: uno de Hija Adoptiva, tres títulos de miembros honorarios de la Corporación y ocho menciones de honor. En el cuadro que acompaña a esta información encontrarán a los galardonados. Además, con motivo de la celebración del 319 Aniversario de la Fundación de San Roque, el Ayuntamiento organizó una intensa agenda de actividades en la Plaza de las Constituciones con actuaciones de música en directo. de “food trucks”. Y cerró, para una programación pensada en toda la familia, también con un teatro musical infantil en el Galiardo y otras actividades juveniles durante toda la semana. In another of the highlights of each year’s celebration, the Institutional Plenary Session of Honors and Distinctions, held as usual at the Juan Luis Galiardo Theater, awarded a total of twelve recognitions: one Adoptive Daughter, three titles of Honorary Member of the Corporation, and eight honorable mentions. El sentido de hablar antes de demandar
En pleno siglo XXI, donde resolvemos una videollamada desde la otra punta del mundo y pedimos sushi en dos clics, ¿cómo puede ser que sigamos gestionando nuestros conflictos como si viviéramos en 1982?
La justicia tradicional, aunque necesaria, no siempre es la mejor ni la única vía. Y por suerte, eso está empezando a cambiar. Desde abril de este año, con la entrada en vigor de la Ley Orgánica 1/2025, España ha dado un paso firme hacia una justicia más moderna y humana: ahora es obligatorio intentar una solución dialogada —como la mediación— antes de presentar muchas demandas. ¿El objetivo? No solo descongestionar los juzgados, sino también ofrecer a las personas una manera más sensata, saludable y eficiente de resolver sus conflictos.
Si eres empresario, emprendedor, vecino o heredero de una propiedad sobre cuyo futuro nadie se pone de acuerdo... esto te interesa. Porque la mediación no solo ahorra tiempo y dinero, también ahorra incertidumbres y dolores de cabeza.
- Es una vía rápida. Mientras que un juicio puede tardar años, una mediación puede cerrarse en pocas semanas.
- Es más económica. No hay tasas judiciales, se evitan costas, y cada parte paga solo lo suyo.
- Es confidencial. Nada se hace público. Lo que se habla, queda en la sala de mediación.

Una historia de segundas oportunidades
Un refugio para los animales, un lugar donde volver a tener una oportunidad vivir y de ser cuidados. Animal Collective acoge a esos pequeños que se han quedado sin refugio o que han abandonado en domicilios. Una casa de acogida encabezada por Pamela y apoyandose en su red de ayudantes que mantienen a todas las mascotas con los cuidados y cariños que necesitan, aunque como ella explica “siempre hace falta más ayuda tanto de voluntarios como económica”. Pamela, desde el amor que siente por los animales, adapto su casa para que los abandonados tuviesen una vida digna “me dan mucho más de lo que yo les puedo ofrecer. Animal Collective: a shelter where animals begin a new life
An animal shelter, a place where they can get another chance to live and be looked after. Animal Collective houses these little ones that have been left without shelter or been abandoned in homes. A shelter led by Pamela who relies of her network of helpers who look after all the pets with the care and affection they need, although as she explains “more help both from volunteers and financially is always needed” Pamela, through the love she feels for animals, adapted her home to give abandoned animals a dignified life, she says that “they give me much more than what I can give them. I offer them a home, but they give me a purpose” she clarifies with her eyes watering.
A space where animals can smile again. At present, she has over 300 animals including fish, ferrets, mice, dogs, cats, doves... “I try to take in everything I can and provide a space where the animals can feel comfortable, safe, and can grow.” Most of the adoptions are carried out abroad, “they are normally more aware of the responsibility of hosting pets that have already been with a family or are at a certain age.” Sometimes they are purchased for a purpose, “one of the major problems is that pets are given as gifts, but in the long term people are unable to take responsibility for them, and that is when they bring them, unaware of the problems that causes the animal” Resources are very limited, “we work wonders with the money we have and the help our volunteers offer” says Pamela, but this isn’t enough. Fundraising is extremely important therefore they have several platforms for anyone who wants to help in one way or another or collaborate and attend the events they stage.

Los recursos son muy limitados “hacemos magia con el dinero que tenemos y con lo que ayudan nuestros voluntarios”, dice Pamela, pero esto no es suficiente. La recaudación de fondos es importantísima por eso tienen varias plataformas para que el que quiera pueda ayudar de una u otra forma o colaborar y asistir a los eventos que hacen.

Aldana organiza la 22ª edición de su campus de fútbol en Sotogrande
• Del 30 de junio al 11 de julio las instalaciones del Club Puente de Hierro de Sotogrande albergarán la edición
veintidós del Campus de Fútbol Adolfo Aldana.
Sotogrande vuelve a ser de nuevo el lugar elegido para esta edición, al contar con unas extraordinarias instalaciones de césped natural y donde muchos equipos profesionales han estado llevando a cabo durante el invierno una mini pretemporada.
Aldana, exfutbolista del Real Madrid, Deportivo de la Coruña y Español, además de internacional con la selección española absoluta dirigirá este campus, que reunirá a chicos y chicas desplazados a lo largo de todas las localidades de la Costa del Sol y del Campo de Gibraltar.
La Organización, como es habitual, dispondrá de varios autobuses gratuitos que recorrerán varias localidades para que estos chicos y chicas puedan desplazarse hasta Sotogrande.
De nuevo participarán como entrenadores e invitados leyendas de nuestra liga y profesionales con amplia experiencia en nuestro fútbol.
A los entrenadores habituales como Manolo Villa, Cañas, Jaro o Mané se sumarán otros profesionales de reconocido prestigio que durante estos diez días de intensos entrenamientos trasladarán a los
participantes en esta edición aquellos conceptos futbolísticos que les han servido para llegar hasta lo más alto del fútbol profesional.
En la edición anterior, Jordi Lardín y Marcos Alonso, deleitaron a pequeños y mayores en algunas de las sesiones de entrenamiento, incluso participando en las mismas para disfrute de los chavales.

Aldana organises 22nd edition of its football campus
• From 30 June to 11 July, the facilities at Club Puente de Hierro in Sotogrande will host the twenty-second edition of the Adolfo Aldana Football Campus.
Sotogrande is once again the destination chosen for this edition, as it boasts extraordinary facilities with natural grass and is a place where many professional teams have staged a mini preseason camp during winter.
Aldana, a former player for Real Madrid, Deportivo de la Coruña and Español, as well as an international with the senior Spanish team will lead this campus, which will bring together children from all over the Costa del Sol and Campo de Gibraltar.
As usual, the organisers will have several free buses which will operate in different areas to ensure that these children can reach Sotogrande.
Once again, legends from the Spanish league and highly experienced professionals from Spanish football will take part as coaches and guests.
In addition to regular coaches such as Manolo Villa, Cañas, Jaro and Mané, there will be other highly renowned professionals who, over ten days of intense training sessions, will pass on footballing concepts to the participants that they have used to reach the highest echelons of professional football.
At the previous edition, Jordi Lardín and Marcos Alonso, thrilled both youngest and older players at some of the training sessions, even taking part themselves to the delight of the young kids.

El Gasol Foundation Golf Invitational se celebrará del 19 al 22 de junio con el objetivo de recaudar fondos para prevenir la obesidad infantil y reunirá a estrellas del deporte como Pau Gasol, Rafa Nadal, Rudy Fernández, Álvaro Morata, Marcos Alonso, Ricky Rubio, Eden Hazard, Bernd Schuster, y profesionales de golf como Álvaro Quirós, Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño, o Adri Arnau, así como destacados empresarios y directivos.
Los espectaculares campos de La Hacienda Links Golf Resort y el Hotel Fairmont La Hacienda Costa del Sol, ubicados en la urbanización Alcaidesa, en los municipios de La Línea y San Roque, serán los escenarios de este evento único, que pretende concienciar a la sociedad sobre uno de los principales desafíos actuales de la salud pública.

Obesity and overweight affect one in three children aged 8 to 16 in Spain, and this situation is even more concerning in Andalusia, where excess weight impacts 38.8% of children compared to the national average of 34.7%.

Alberto Rodríguez, vessel “Balboa”, wins 12th Straitchallenge Regatta
• Alberto Rodríguez managed to win the 12th Straitchallenge Regatta after a closely fought competition marked by the eastern wind.
Nine seconds made the difference and determined victory for Alberto Rodríguez’s Grand Soleil 45 ‘Balboa’ at the 12th Straitchallenge Regatta over Sergio Llorca’s Grand Surprise ‘Ceuta Emociona’ which was defending the title for what would have been its sixth win.
The tall ship regatta organised by Vendaval Sailing Club and Saladillo de Algeciras Nautical Club, celebrated its twelfth anniversary on a day marked by the eastern win which accompanied the fleet on the route between Algeciras and Ceuta. The first boats to reach the finish line completed the route in approximately five hours.
The start time was 11:40 for the ORC class and ten minutes later for the Club class opposite the fort of Tolmo in the vicinity of Tarifa with 12 knots of eastern wind, with a short route for the Club category and long route towards Tarifa for the ORC vessels. With the wind rising towards Tarifa, some boats lost control and had to sail toward the win without any more serious consequences.
Among the Club Class vessels, the winner was the boat with a female crew ‘Enigma’, a Quarter Ton from RCN de Algeciras captained by Jennifer Kinnear, winner by more than seven minutes over the ‘Avrio’ of Sebastien Delasnerie flying a French flag, second in real time ahead of the female crew boat, and the Dufour 31 ‘Underwood’ of Rubén del Río based at CNM Benalmádena, both separated by the shortest distance.

Legacy Polo Team se alzó este domingo con el título de la Copa Bienvenida, tras vencer por 9 a 7,5 a La Margarita / No Polo No Life en la final disputada en la cancha 2 del Ayala Polo Club, gracias a un gran juego de conjunto y apoyándose, además, en su goleador, Bautista Riglos, quien tras el encuentro fue elegido como el mejor jugador de la final. En su segunda temporada en Sotogrande, el conjunto del suizo Cedric Schweri conquista así su primer trofeo en esta prestigiosa plaza del polo internacional. El torneo reunió a ocho equipos de hasta 8 goles de hándicap.

On Sunday, Legacy Polo Team won the Welcome Cup title, after beating La Margarita / No Polo No Life by 9-7.5 in the final held on pitch 2 of Ayala Polo Club, thanks to great team play and also relying on their top scorer, Bautista Riglos, who was named MVP in the final after the match. An event was held at Hotel Fairmont La Hacienda Costa del Sol, Ayala Polo Club with a press conference to present the launch of the 2025 Sotogrande polo season. The event was attended by special guests, the specialist press and authorities from the Council of San Roque, from Ayala Polo Club, and from Hotel Fairmont La Hacienda Costa del Sol.
For the fifth consecutive year Ayala Polo Club is organising the Sotogrande polo season, whose matches will take place between the 3 pitches of Ayala Polo Club, in San Enrique de Guadiaro, and the 4 pitches of the Los Pinos venue. The event began with an introduction that looked at what would take place at each of the tournaments that will form part of the season. It will begin on Tuesday afternoon with the first two matches of the Ke Sotogrande Welcome Cup, and will run until Sunday 14 September, the planned date of the final of the Farewell Cup. In turn, the point of greatest intensity and expectation will come on 28 July with the start of the 54th International Polo Tournament, which will end on Saturday 30 August, and which will involve the best players in the world and a large and vibrant offer off the pitch alongside the Last Chukker. It is worth highlighting that entry to all the season’s matches will be open to everyone and free.

San Roque fue sede del rugby base nacional con la celebración del Torneo Nacional M12
• Más de mil jugadores de rugby menores de 12 años han disfrutado del Torneo Nacional de Rugby M12, un evento deportivo que ha tenido lugar con gran éxito en las canchas de polo de Los Pinos. La excelente organización a cargo del San Roque Rugby Club y el inmejorable ambiente reinante han sido las notas más destacables.
Autoridades municipales sanroqueñas han participado este domingo en la entrega de premios con la que se ha puesto fin al Torneo Nacional de Rugby M12 que comenzó el sábado en Santa María Polo. Todos los equipos participantes, casi medio centenar, han recibido su reconocimiento por el gran nivel deportivo y por el extraordinario comportamiento mostrado dentro y fuera del campo de juego.
La teniente de alcalde de Deportes, Mónica Córdoba, y el director del Servicio de Deportes, Juan Carlos Crespo, han participado en la entrega de medallas de reconocimiento a los distintos clubes participantes, llegados de toda España. Además, se entregaron varios premios especiales: a la entidad llegada de más lejos, el Rugby Menorca; a los valores del rugby, para
el León Rugby; al juego limpio, para El Salvador de Valladolid; a la mejor afición, para el Valencia Rugby; a la participación con equipo femenino, al CAR de Sevilla; a la deportividad, al Liceo Madrid; y al aniversario del club, al Canoe Rugby Club Madrid, en su 95 cumpleaños.
Organizaba el San Roque Rugby Club, con el apoyo institucional del Ayuntamiento de San Roque, Diputación de Cádiz, Mancomunidad del Campo de Gibraltar, así como la colaboración de la Real Federación Española de Rugby y de la Federación Andaluza de Rugby. También se contó con el patrocinio de numerosas marcas, entre ellas Ayala España, como responsable de las canchas de polo sanroqueñas.
Han participado en este torneo casi medio centenar de equipos, proceden-
tes de clubes repartidos por toda España, lo que supone más de 1.000 jugadores y jugadoras de hasta 12 años, a los que hay que sumar personal técnico de dichos conjuntos y de las federaciones española y andaluza, así como voluntarios y familiares de los deportistas. En total, se calcula que el municipio de San Roque ha congregado a más de 3.000 personas este fin de semana con motivo de esta actividad. Para este evento se ha contado con ocho campos de juego, todos en la misma cancha de césped natural, con lo que todos los asistentes y participantes han disfrutado de la actividad en una única instalación. Se ha dispuesto de una zona anexa a los campos para que los equipos pudieran realizar los calentamientos previos a los partidos
También se habilitó una zona social con carpa de acreditación, tienda oficial del club y de la Real Federación Española de Rugby, servicio de restauración y hostelería, carpa de objetos perdidos... Se dispuso de un servicio médico especializado, así como de un hospital de campaña y de dos ambulancias.
San Roque, host of the national youth rugby event with the M12 National Tournament
• More than a thousand rugby players under 12 years old have enjoyed the M12 National Rugby Tournament, a sporting event that took place with great success on the polo fields of Los Pinos.
Municipal authorities from San Roque participated this Sunday in the award ceremony that marked the conclusion of the M12 National Rugby Tournament, which began on Saturday at Santa María Polo. Almost fifty teams took part, and all received recognition for their high level of sportsmanship and outstanding behavior both on and off the field.
The Deputy Mayor for Sports, Mónica Córdoba, and the Director of the Sports Service, Juan Carlos Crespo, took part in the medal presentation to the various participating clubs from all over Spain. Additionally, several special awards were given: to the team coming from the farthest away, Rugby Menorca; to the values of rugby, for León Rugby; to fair play, for El Salvador de Valladolid; to the best supporters, for Valencia Rugby; to the participation with a women’s team, for CAR Sevilla; to sportsmanship, for Liceo Madrid; and to the club’s anniversary, for Canoe Rugby Club Madrid, celebrating its 95th birthday.
The event was organized by San Roque Rugby Club, with institutional support from the San Roque Town Hall, Cádiz Provincial Council, Campo de Gibraltar Mancomunidad, as well as collaboration from the Royal Spanish Rugby Federation and the Andalusian Rugby Federation. Numerous sponsors also supported the event, including Ayala España, responsible for the San Roque polo fields.
Nearly fifty teams from clubs across Spain participated in this tournament, totaling over 1,000 players under 12 years old. This number includes technical staff from the teams and representatives from the Spanish and Andalusian federations, as well as volunteers and family members of the athletes. Overall, it is estimated that the municipality of San Roque brought together more than 3,000 people this weekend for this activity.
Eight playing fields were set up for the event, all on the same natural grass pitch, allowing all attendees and participants to enjoy the activity in a single facility. An adjacent area was arranged for warm-ups before matches. A social zone was also set up, including a registration tent, the official club shop and Spanish Rugby Federation store, catering and hospitality services, lost and found area, and more. A specialized medical service was available, along with a field hospital and two ambulances.

En cuanto a los ganadores: Juan Antonio Merino (Bola más cercana), Saman Ahmadi (Drive más largo en Caballeros) y Nicola Jordan (Drive en Damas). En la Categoría Damas, el triunfo fue para Desislava Palauzova, seguida de Nicola Jordan y Miriam Orosa. En Segunda Cat. Caballeros, la victoria fue para José Zuheros, seguido de Cristofer Ramírez y Manuel Domínguez de la Maza; mientras que en Primera Cat. Caballeros, venció Paul Mercer, seguido de Juan González y José Ignacio Jiménez.
XII Circuito de Golf Sotogrande gets underway at San Roque Golf & Resort
A memorable opening day, with the course full of players and a top level start with the best golf and a peculiar Argentine vibe.
A time for greetings, reunions, hugs, and to celebrate the return of the best golf. The XII Sotogrande Golf Circuit took its first steps of the 2025 edition with a top quality opening event at the revamped and fantastic course of San Roque Golf & Resort. An event with all the ingredients and flavour of the circuit, with a special Argentine touch, and a pitch full of players to play and compete in the first stop of the Circuit.
The very competitive course,
designed by Severiano Ballesteros and Perry Dye, hosted the restart of the most important and traditional competition in southern Europe at a course in extraordinary condition. An appealing 18 holes packed with excitement and with the live updating of classifications and results, thanks to the new management system for the Circuit courtesy of Golf Directo. This added a little bit more spice to the final holes.
After the tournament, at the welcoming restaurant space, the players enjoyed an exquisite barbecue courtesy of La Criolla, undoubtedly the great culinary leader for the grilled and barbecued meats in the area, which has its base and
food truck at San Roque Golf & Resort. There was also a tasting of Marqués de Riscal wines and a live cutting of a spectacular leg of Popi Jamones.
As for the winners: Juan Antonio Merino (Closest ball), Saman Ahmadi (Men’s longest drive) and Nicola Jordan (Women’s longest drive). In the Women’s Category, victory went to Desislava Palauzova, followed by Nicola Jordan and Miriam Orosa. In the Men’s Second Category, victory went to José Zuheros, followed by Cristofer Ramírez and Manuel Domínguez de la Maza; while in the Men’s First Category, the winner was Paul Mercer, followed by Juan González and José Ignacio Jiménez.
