Darren The biggest sporting event in schools in Jamaica is the Champs at the National Stadium in Kingston. Different schools compete against each other in track and field events, each defending their school’s reputation. Sometimes, as many as 30 000 people attend the event. I am here to compete in the 400 metres hurdles. My hero is Karsten Warholm from Norway. He smashed his own world record when he won the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021. People even compare him to our world-famous sprinter, Usain Bolt! I watch his races on the internet and try to copy his style.

Shanice My passion is music, listening to it and making it, too. We are so lucky because Jamaica has a very lively music scene. I play the bass guitar in our band. It is the most important instrument in Jamaican music. Drum and bass together create the rhythm. My idol is Aston Barrett who is a famous bassist from Jamaica. I’m also a huge fan of Diane White, a female Jamaican “bassie”. I hope to be as successful as her one day!
