Earth Day, which was founded in 1970 in the USA, is celebrated on 22 April each year. It is a day to think about our planet and what we can do to make it a better place for all of us to live. We can think about saving water and energy and reducing pollution. We can also collect ideas on recycling, protecting our animals, trees and plants, and our environment.

Ten tips for celebrating Earth Day

1 Sing or listen to songs about the Earth 2 Wear green or brown clothes 3 Go for a long walk or bike ride and enjoy nature 4 Plant wild flowers 5 Use leaves, flowers and twigs to make pictures and cards at school or at home 6 Clean up litter where you live 7 Swap books, games and clothes with friends 8 Make Earth Day cards out of recycled paper and send them to friends 9 Learn more about the environment 10 Make positive promises. Fill a journal with resolutions for how you can help the Earth.

Decorate it with photographs, poems, and pictures. Living on Earth is expensive, but it does include a free trip around the Sun.
