Subject – Verb

Words have different jobs in a sentence. They describe actions and who or what is doing them.

Start analysing sentences by finding the word that describes the action. Now you have found the verb. Then ask who or what is doing it. Now you have found the subject. What is the verb in the sentence? sleeps = verb Who sleeps? Zoom = subject What is the verb in the sentence? snores = verb Zoom sleeps in his cave. Zoom snores.Vurderingseksemplar Who snores? Zoom = subject TASK Find the verb and subject in these sentences: The plant grows quickly. James always wins at tennis. My parents normally pay for lunch.

The girls feed the cat every day.

S V O What is the verb in the sentence? feed = verb

Who feed? the girls = subject

Who do the girls feed? the cat = object

TASK a Use the same type of questions to analyse the second sentence. b Find the subject, verb and object in these sentences: I met the Queen. The children follow the rules. The band played our song.
