9. APPENDIX 9.1. HAND SIGNALS USAGE OF HAND SIGNALS Do not begin operation until signals are clearly understood. If non-standard signals are going to be used, be sure that you and your signal person agree on them beforehand. The operator shall respond only to operating signals from the appointed signal person, but shall obey a stop signal at any time from anybody. A signal person must be fully qualified by training and experience. A signal person must be in a sufficiently lighted area so as to be clearly visible to the operator during night time operations. WHILE OPERATING USE HAND SIGNALS
RAISE LOAD VERTICALLY Turn your face to the operator. With either forearm vertical, index finger pointing up, move hand in small horizontal circle.
LOWER LOAD VERTICALLY Turn your face to the operator. With either arm extended downward, index finger pointing down, move hand in small horizontal circle.
MOVE LOAD IN HORIZONTALLY Turn your face to the operator. With either arm extended, hand raised and open toward direction of movement, move hand in direction of required movement.
MOVE LOAD OUT HORIZONTALLY Turn your face to the operator. With either arm extended, hand raised and open toward direction of movement, move hand in direction of required movement.
