6.5.5. CHECKING ENGINE OIL LEVEL

Caution

When the engine oil level is above the "FULL" mark of the oil level gauge, it may cause an engine failure.

Note

Perform inspection on a level surface before starting the engine. Oil levelcannot be measured accuratelywhile the engine is running. When the engine has been running, wait for 1020 minutes after stopping the engine and then check the oil level.

1. Pull out the oil level gauge and wipe off the attached oil.

2. Reinsert the oil level gauge fully and then gently pull it out. When the oil level is between the "FULL" and "ADD" marks, the oil level is appropriate. At this time, also check for oil contamination and stickiness.

3. If the oil level is insufficient, add the oil up to the "FULL" mark.

4. Reinstall the oil level gauge after checking the oil level.

Caution

When inserting the oil level gauge, be careful not to bend it. Otherwise, the oil level gauge may be deformed.

Take care not to use excessive force when inserting the oil level gauge. If the oil level gauge is long, do not hold the grip and try to forcefully insert, but instead hold an area around the guide tube to insert.

Caution

Insert the oil level gauge until the grip part touches the guide tube. A gap between them may let water enter the engine causing a malfunction.

6.5.5.1. FILLING ENGINE OIL

WARNING

When filling oil, pay attention not to spill it. If you spill oil on engine or equipment, wipe it properly. This could lead to fire and a personal injury and / or equipment damage. Do not leave a flammable item such as a cloth or cotton work glove on the engine. Such items may trigger a fire.

Caution

Prevent dirt from entering the engine oil filler port when adding oil. If foreign matter mixes with the oil, it could damage the engine.

Caution

When the oil is added rapidly through a funnel attached to the filler port, the oil inside the head cover may overflow from the breather. Add the oil gently.

When the oil is added as much as exceeding the "FULL" position, this may cause an engine malfunction. Wait for 10 - 20 minutes after the oil is added, and make sure to check the oil level using the oil level gauge.

Caution

Be careful not to spill engine oil onto the fan belt during refilling, as doing so may damage the fan belt or cause accidents.

When the engine oil level is less than "FULL" mark, remove the supply inlet oil filling cap, pull out the oil level gauge, and add engine oil up to "FULL" mark. After adding the oil, securely install the oil filling cap and the oil level gauge.
