JUNE
Global Day of Parents National
Welcome to the latest edition of EV Zone. We hope you like the new look and will enjoy spending some time reading about the great things colleagues across EV Cargo are achieving and the work we are doing to further enhance our mission to manage supply chains for the world’s leading brands.
EV Zone celebrates the best of us: the best innovations and improvements we are making as a company to make our offering better for our clients and our colleagues; the best ways we are creating bespoke technology to make the logistics sector more dynamic and more sustainable; and – best of all – the ways in which our colleagues around the world are helping our customers, local charities and our communities to prosper and thrive. It’s all about how our people are living out the EV Cargo values of growth, innovation and sustainability in their daily working lives.
EV Zone showcases how EV Cargo is making a real difference across the globe, from our acquisitions of Allport Netherlands, Dobbs Logistics and Fast Forward Freight in Europe, where we have welcomed new colleagues and have been impressed by how they have quickly and enthusiastically integrated into our teams, to our growing office network across China and South East Asia and the charitable work of our colleagues in Hong Kong.
As we progress towards our ambitious growth targets, I think it is important that everyone in
EV Cargo knows what we are doing and why we are doing it. Our progress across the business, highlighted in the timeline on page 16 and the chart on page 18, has been remarkable and is a credit to the hard work people have put in across the company.
EV Zone shows how we are moving forward together. I’d encourage you to read about how our Delivering Better programme (page 20) is delivering tangible rewards for all colleagues and how our Employee Champions are coming up with some fantastic new ways to make EV Cargo an even better place to work (page 21).
The great things highlighted in EV Zone make me even more proud of the work you all do around the world.
Thank you all for your dedication and commitment and I look forward to hearing about many more of your achievements in our next edition.
HEATH ZARIN Chief Executive EV Cargoith a population of 685 million, covering countries boasting some of the most dynamic modern economies in the world, South East Asia is a region with huge potential.
Not only is it a rapidly growing
market, but it offers new and exciting opportunities and alternatives to traditional sourcing strategies.
That’s why EV Cargo sees South East Asia as a key market to help deliver its overall growth strategy and has been rapidly expanding its presence and capability in the area over the last few months as it focuses on extending its
global network.
This year it is expanding across South East Asia, establishing company offices in Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand, in addition to growing capabilities at existing offices and warehouses in Singapore and Myanmar.
EV Cargo Malaysia Managing Director Thomas Sunny oversees the new office
on the outskirts of capital Kuala Lumpur, which is close to major sea ports and will provide directly managed air and sea freight services to and from Malaysia, all powered by EV Cargo people and systems.
It will also offer warehouse facilities at Kuala Lumpur International Airport and freight consolidation at major sea ports.
In Cambodia, a new office in the capital Phnom Penh will provide directly managed air and sea freight services, cross border eCommerce, warehouse and customs services – with operations led by Sam Pay, EV Cargo Cambodia Managing Director.
The expansion in Vietnam sees a new country office in the capital Ho Chi Minh City headed by Ruby Nguyen, EV Cargo Vietnam Managing Director.
“Vietnam has benefitted from free trade agreements, increased infrastructure investment and diversified sourcing strategies, which have seen it experience rapid growth in sea freight to USA over the last three years,” explains Justin Bentley, EV Cargo Vice President, South East Asia.
“South East Asia offers exciting growth opportunities for EV Cargo and we’re executing quickly across the region to expand our presence and build a robust EV Cargo network underpinned by professional teams.
“At the heart of this strategy is investment in local expertise – people with extensive knowledge of each market, who know every detail of the local freight forwarding, shipping and logistics trends and know where EV Cargo can capitalise on opportunities.
“And we’re working fast to make it happen: we expect to double our headcount on the ground in the next 18 months, and we’ve made six senior appointments in the past three months.”
Meet Bonnio Lee, EV Cargo’s new Finance Director, Global Forwarding and Technology.
The appointment is part of the company’s continued investment in strengthening its finance team to deliver the global strategic growth plan. Bonnio will be responsible for the finance and accounting functions for Global Forwarding and Technology and will be based at the global headquarters in Hong Kong.
Bonnio is a finance professional with more than 25 years of international experience in the finance and operations in global logistics, telecommunications, supply chain and professional services sectors.
Before joining EV Cargo, he served as an independent Non-Executive Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee of Janco Logistics Group for several years while providing accounting and advisory services to corporate and
private clients in Hong Kong.
Bonnio said: “I am very pleased to join EV Cargo at such an exciting time in its history.
“I look forward to supporting the company in achieving its strategic growth plans and ensuring the finance function provides the partnership to drive operational excellence on a global scale.”
Heath Zarin, Founder, Chairman and CEO of EV Cargo, said: “I am delighted to welcome Bonnio to EV Cargo.
“Having worked together previously, I’m confident he will make a significant positive impact as a senior leader with extensive experience running finance and operational functions across listed and private growth organisations.
“In addition to our ongoing investment in growing our business, Bonnio’s appointment also demonstrates that EV Cargo continues to attract great talent to join us on our global expansion.”
South East Asia offers exciting growth opportunities for EV Cargo and we’re executing quickly across the region to expand our presence and build a robust network underpinned by professional teams.
In January EV Cargo’s Palletforce acquired one of the South East’s most respected transport businesses in a move which secures long-term service continuity and further demonstrates our commitment to delivering sector-leading distribution services in every UK postcode.
Signalling our intent to pursue the highest levels of quality, we purchased
Hastings-based Dobbs Logistics in a move that will add another highperforming haulier to Palletforce and secure sector-leading service for members and their customers.
Founded by John Dobbs in 1961, and with over 60 years of prestigious operations, Dobbs Logistics is the undoubted, stand-out road haulage business in a region which is historically challenging for network operations.
Having already secured 12 new members in 12 months, this confident move sees us provide our membership with a stable and trusted platform for growth, while continuing our investments in technology, infrastructure and sustainability.
We send a warm welcome to all of our new colleagues at Dobbs, welcome to the EV Cargo family.

EV Cargo has added more than $90 million of revenue with the acquisition of Allport Netherlands BV, further expanding our European platform.
The acquisition is a key milestone in our growth strategy and will result in pro forma combined sales of over $1.5 billion. It further strengthens our proposition in the strategically important Netherlands market and specifically at Rotterdam, Europe’s largest sea freight gateway.
Heath Zarin, Founder and CEO of EV Cargo, said:“EV Cargo has now built a substantial European platform to service its many customers in the region, with around 550 employees working out of 25 locations in eight countries and including nearly one million square feet of ownoperated warehousing space. This transaction further strengthens our platform, adding excellent colleagues, capabilities and customers. We look forward to welcoming Allport Netherlands to the EV Cargo family.”
We send a warm welcome to all of our new colleagues.

While you're surfing the internet, getting you to visit a website is both an art and a science.
However, eCriminals also work hard at this. Clickbait is typically something eye-catching that makes you click on a link that invariably ends up you landing on (at worst) a page full of malware, or (at best) a page full of adverts that clog up your PC and annoy the heck out of you. What can happen?
Well here are five of the possible outcomes:
Dangerous links can host malware and trojans. If the SHOCKING headline you clicked on doesn’t directly host the online threat, the next link might.
Content flipping is the old bait-and-switch method of using a post or page that has achieved virality and switching the content for malicious purposes.
Free IQ tests and credit checks can be examples of phishing. You are asked to fill in personal info. This is asking for trouble – if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
Clickjacking is one of the more subtle methods used. Clicking on a button that advertises one thing but really does another, without the user or the site owner’s knowledge.
Hidden opt-ins for quizzes and contests from your social profile can allow the provider to access and use your personal data.
We are delighted to share that EV Cargo has received two significant safety awards for our commitment to workplace safety during 2022.
We won a Merit in the International Safety Awards from the British Safety Council for protecting employees from the risk of injury and ill health at work.
We were also awarded a RoSPA Silver Award, whist Palletforce collected an unprecedented 14th consecutive RoSPA Gold Award and fourth President’s Award for maintaining the highest possible safety standards in the logistics sector.
Over the last 12 months we have launched a series of initiatives aimed at promoting and maintaining health and safety among our employees, underpinned by a refreshed SHEQ strategy where we have seen regular safety conferences, meetings and tours for all colleagues.
2022 saw the introduction of initiatives designed to prevent accidents and improve reporting, while improving general wellbeing of our colleagues. Driver CPC training, covering topics including accident prevention, driver compliance, safe loading and manual handling, are now a standard.
Andrew Mawson, Head of Compliance and Risk, said: “With a company of our size and scale, comprising many different areas of specialism, it’s vital to have robust and ongoing health and safety
procedures in place across the business.”
Mike Robinson, Chief Executive of British Safety Council, said: “The British Safety Council applauds EV Cargo on its achievement.
“Our vision is that noone should be injured or made ill through their work – anywhere in the world. Achieving this requires more than complying with legislation; it means people committed not only to health and safety but also more and more to workplace wellbeing and impelling others to follow suit.”
We have launched a new phoneline on 0203 880 7933 to help managers with people related queries, like holiday, EV People, onboarding, My Rewards and much more. In most instances your line manager should be able to answer your question. However, we understand that from time to time they may be unavailable or unsure how best to help. If
this is the case you can now contact our people services team between the hours of 09.00 and 17.00 alongside our email evepople@evcargo. com. This is one step we are making to ensure our team more accessible when a response is needed.
The introduction of this helpline will enable the team to support you through a variety of methods, such as emails, phone and MS Teams to help access information
and answer queries as promptly as possible.
If you want to know more about how and when to contact the People Services Helpline simply scan the QR code.
As one of our company’s core values, our focus on sustainability runs through everything that we do and our sustainability strategy continues to pick up momentum year on year.
As part of our Aspirational Women’s Development Programme, and to conclude the 2022 cohort, course participants were set a sustainability challenge. Split into five groups, colleagues were asked to put an idea forward to positively impact
sustainability across EV Cargo and participants had to use skills they had learnt during the development programme such as leadership, communication, influencing and resilience to pull together their challenge presentations. These were then presented back to members of our Senior Leadership Team. We had some great ideas presented, from introducing an electric car scheme for all colleagues through to grow your own workshops and an
email reduction campaign. We were extremely excited by the ideas presented and are in the process of reviewing how they can be taken forward and integrated into EV Cargo over the coming months.
We’d like to thank all participants of the 2022 Aspirational Women’s Development Programme. We are reviewing feedback to shape what our evolution of the programme will be for our next cohort. Details will be launched later this year.
With a rapidly growing economy, which offers new opportunities and alternatives to traditional sourcing strategies, South East Asia is a key region to help deliver EV Cargo’s overall growth strategy and we’ve been rapidly expanding our presence and capability in the area.
Since 2019 we’ve served many market-leading companies, but this year we are expanding across the region, establishing offices in Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand and growing capabilities at existing offices and warehouses in Singapore and Myanmar.
We will offer customers access to emerging international trade lanes and untapped growth markets, as well as providing multi-country consolidation services and final-mile distribution.
“South East Asia offers exciting growth opportunities and we’re executing quickly across the region to expand our presence and build a robust EV Cargo network underpinned by professional teams,” explains Justin Bentley, EV Cargo Vice President, South East Asia.
“At the heart of this strategy is investment in local expertise – people with extensive knowledge of each market, who know every detail of the local freight forwarding, shipping and logistics trends and know where EV Cargo can capitalise on opportunities.”
o promote collaborative working, our Ashby site held a day of team building and turned the EV Cargo depot into an escape room experience with four different scenarios around the site. Together, the teams worked to navigate the puzzles, riddles and challenges to beat the clock, escape the challenge and win.
We’re sending a huge congratulations to Allah Ditta, Alex Cark, Robson Mushayi, Lee Barker and James Scrivens for winning the challenge in only 30 minutes – a fantastic result!
Nick Rose, senior customer service advisor, said: “I have to say, these were so much fun, the mixture of having to use logic and puzzle solving is something that I really enjoy.
“Even with some of the puzzles
being quite hard, it was rewarding when the penny dropped and it was completed.
“It was a great way to work as a team and overcome the challenge together. It was all great fun!”
Kind-hearted employees at Palletforce have been volunteering at food charity FareShare to help hungry families.
Volunteers helped to pack enough produce to make 3,600 meals for
local community centres, foodbanks, schools and youth groups.
Shona Callow, Simon Bradbury, Jo Duncan, Deb Wallbanks, Simon Gibbard and Pennie Bailey worked the morning shift at FareShare’s Nottingham
depot to help ensure that the donated food got to where it was needed most.
The charity works with Palletforce and its members to undertake the express distribution of surplus food from supermarkets to many charities and community
groups across the country.
Sales Director Simon Bradbury said: “Palletforce has been a long-time supporter of FareShare and we all know about the vital work it does, both in our local communities in the Midlands and across the country.
As well as the hours of volunteering – which will go towards our target of 10 volunteer hours per employee – we also donated a photoshoot for the charity to use in its materials to demonstrate its work.
Members of the EV Cargo team in Hong Kong volunteered recently at the Food Angel central food processing centre in Kwun Tong, Hong Kong to help prepare meal boxes.
Food Angel is a Hong Kong food rescue and food assistance program launched in 2011 by Bo Charity Foundation.
Their centre in Sham Shui
Po mainly serves the elderly, people living alone or who are facing a crisis situation, sharing around 7,000 free meal boxes every day. We are pleased to have partnered with them to provide regular, ongoing volunteer support to those in need.
After working for a whole afternoon, the team managed to prepare the ingredients for 3,800 meal boxes in total.
Leanne Stagg, traffic coordinator at Runcorn, is taking part in the Wirral Coastal Walk On the 11 June for the charity, Maggie’s Centres, that helps support Cancer Patients and their families, including a very good friend of Leanne’s.
The 12.5-mile walk goes from the floral pavilion to Wirral country park. To donate to Maggie’s Centres scan the QR code below.
Following two years of treatment including surgery in late 2017 Callum was thankfully given the all clear. Callum shared that ”Since 2017, it still feels surreal, and I’m finding it hard to close that chapter in my life and move on.
“I was traveling to Runcorn a few weeks back and heard ‘The shine night walk’ being advertised on the radio, and
this got me thinking.
“Maybe I need to do something to help others fighting cancer? Maybe by doing this it will not only go to a great cause but also give me some closure.
“So that weekend I signed up to compete in this year’s walk.”
Callum told us he has never been a big walker or runner but ultimately the main reason for him doing the 26 mile walk through the night, is to help raise awareness for cancer, and hopefully shift a few pounds along the way.
“Training is proving to be very hard but manageable” Callum told us, and he is following a strict training plan in the lead up to the walk, training four times per week.
If you would like to support Callum please scan the QR code.
Our Ashby team in the UK organised a litter pick last week and collected 16 bags of
rubbish from the roadsides, including a shopping trolley and a road sign.
The team of volunteers was led by Customer
Account Director and Delivering Better Champion Ben Gregory. Thank you to our volunteers: Chris Williams, Odette Cornford-

Our Dubai team has been hiking to improve fitness levels and wellbeing.
Team members have also been joined by their families and together they have witnessed some beautiful horizons.
On the hikes, the team has been sharing the EV Cargo brand and here are some of the images taken.
EV Cargo has been delighted to get to know our new colleagues after our acquisition of Fast Forward Freight.
The move to acquire the Netherlands-based firm has further improved our offering across Europe.
Our team in Singapore has celebrated their office expansion with a ceremony at the harbourfront location.
The team is excited for the year ahead in Singapore. Colleagues got together to bring good fortune and prosperity to the expanded office.
It significantly increases our depth and capability in Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany and United Kingdom, as well as helping us to expand into Greece and Switzerland.
And we are delighted that the deal helped to triple our European workforce.
Colleagues were welcomed to the business with EV Cargo goody bags.
To foster a meaningful work experience, we believe it is important that everyone has knowledge of our direction and priorities and understands how their efforts and successes contribute to overall goals. We also seek to foster a culture of respect and transparency, practice a management style that listens to colleagues and empowers them to take on new challenges.
Our Delivering Better programme is based on the guiding principles of teamwork, respect, honesty, quality, agility, pride and efficiency. We invest in our people to support a sustainable future of growth and success.
We were really excited to share our Employee Engagement results in December last year.
As you may remember, we created a roadmap, to share our Engagement journey for 2022/2023 and we hope
that you have started to see some positive changes on site as a result of some of the localised action planning.
Now it is time to reveal where we are on our journey of Employee Engagement for 2022/2023 and what is yet to come.
EV Cargo Overall Results Pack was published to all colleagues, along with posters supplied to our depots for deskless colleagues.
JANUARY
Each business area generated a Delivering Better Engagement Focus Group to explore the results meant for each business area and location.
We are starting to plan for our 2023 survey and we will be looking at the best way to collate colleague feedback.
i. We continue to use an external company to ensure confidentiality.
ii. We will continue to use paper based surveys for warehouse and driver populations.
We need your help. We welcome colleagues suggestions on how best to capture feedback and ideas for increased participation rates – if you have any suggestions for our 2023 survey please email these to evpeople@evcargo.com by 16 June 2023 or speak with your line manager.
We will be evolving Delivering Better throughout 2023 and our network of Champions will be helping to drive change forward across the whole of EV Cargo.
Your line managers cascaded more detailed results with you. Each business area generated a Delivering Better Engagement Focus Group to explore what the results mean to you. The groups explored what the results mean for your business area and location.
Localised action plans will be created and will evolve throughout 2023.
Our commitment from the survey was to promote better career development opportunities. All company-wide vacancies are now advertised in one place and we share these on a weekly basis. We’ve invested in training to support all line managers, and we have developed our Rising Stars programme to support our Talent Agenda. Our Aspirational Women Programme, to support Diversity & Inclusion Ambitions and our HR Survival Skills to equip our People Managers with the tools to carry out their role were both completed in 2022 and will be having an exciting evolution for 2023.
• We are in the process of creating a Management Support HR Intranet site where managers have access to various details including onboarding, recruitment and development.
• We have launched an EV Cargo Careers Page to ensure all colleagues and candidates have access to Job Vacancies within EV Cargo. The page also includes support and guidance relating to CV writing and interview skills.
• We are developing a Learning and Development Handbook, which all colleagues will have access to and will signpost what our current learning and development offerings are, including guidance on internal training programmes and e-learning, personal development and job-related apprenticeships as well as external training opportunities to support of our colleagues development.
• We have hired a new training manager who work with each business unit and function to explore what learning and development opportunities we need for our people.
• We are evolving EV People to be able to capture performance and career progression information.
• Further opportunity for our People Managers to enrol on more Manager Essentials training (which will also include soft skills) will be developed soon.
You told us that there is no one size that fits all when it comes to communication. Whilst we have delivered a variety of platforms to communicate to all colleagues, we will explore how our communication strategy needs to develop further to support the promotion of two way communication.
We have continued to communicate using a vast range of communication channels which we urge you to take advantage of such as:
• My Rewards
• EV People
• EV Zone
Very soon we will be launching our company-wide communication platform Viva Engage, your all-inclusive, two-way engagement tool.
We are working with each business unit to look at what else can be done to support creating the right approach to two-way communication and will be creating a threepronged communication strategy focussing on the needs of our colleagues, globally, regionally and globally.
Whilst our people agree to the benefits of ‘One EV Cargo’ we need to ensure all colleagues understand how they can contribute in delivering our vision. Continually looking at how we can bring our Mission, Vision and Values to life across EV Cargo regardless of role or location will remain a key focus for us all.
As part of Delivering Better evolution, we are discussing with our champions the need to set up business unit | functional specific workshops to bring to life what our Mission, Vision and Values mean to each colleague. Creating a framework that includes a set of initiatives to bring ‘Delivering Better’ to life and our network of Delivering Better Champions will help us shape and drive this journey and ensure colleagues feel listened to. Further details to follow over the summer on this.
e want to ensure we continually check in to ensure we are ‘Delivering Better’. We therefore will do this via an number of mechanisms:
Annual Engagement survey- each year we will ask you a number of questions to measure how engaged our colleagues are and create action plans to support our Delivering Better journey.
Quarterly Pulse surveys – act as a temperature check throughout the year for us to review if our colleagues would recommend EV Cargo. Localised plans will be tailored based on this feedback.
Delivering Better Champions – a champions network that allows us to support the business to drive engagement forward.
Line managers – play a hugely important factor in increasing morale and motivation within teams by encouraging employee voice and enable continuous improvement to happen at site level.
Delivering Better is about sharing best practice, working collaboratively across business units and functions, with the aim to collectively increase morale and motivation, improve teamwork and job satisfaction. Delivering better is made up of a number of components that all interlink to form a positive workplace culture with high levels of employee engagement:
Bringing to life our Mission, Vision & Values so everyone understands how they relate to their role
Looking after colleagues’ wellbeing
Giving something back
Ensuring we all know what Delivering Better is & developing a Champions network
Setting colleagues up for success
Increasing two-way communication
Development opportunities for all
Increasing connectivity: know our teams & celebrate diversity, equality & inclusivity
As Delivering Better evolves and we will be using our champions as the mechanism to drive change across all areas of our business.
We are in the process of working with business units and functional leadership teams to review how we can really make some progress around Delivering
Driving employee engagement
Sharing best practice across divisions & continuously Delivering Better
Innovation: driving continuous improvement, plus suggestion schemes
Better, to boost employee engagement in 2023, and ensure localized and functional ownership is in place.
This is being rolled out initially in the UK before evolving globally, so for those outside of the UK there will be more to come soon.
In March 2023, our current Champions
got together to look at how we can take Delivering Better forward.
This gave us the chance to explore what Delivering Better is, what it means and how Delivering Better fits into EV Cargo’s mission, vision and values.
When our Champions met up, we had some great ideas put forward. Below are some examples of initiatives our champions believe will positively impact engagement at EV Cargo: Business
Quarterly
Development pathway programmes
Wellbeing Action Plans
Communication Challenge reviews
Sustainability initiative action plans
We recognise that there are a lot of great projects that our Delivering Better Champions are excited to get started on, but understand delivering too much
change at once can cause confusion. To ensure that we approach each initiative with the time and resource they deserve, we will be working over the
Suggestion
next few weeks to agree which of these we will be taking forward and seek to land in 2023, and those which may take a little longer to implement.
As part of our commitment to ensure we are listening, in the coming weeks we will be introducing a quarterly Pulse survey, so we can track how you think we are doing.
We want to ensure you are seeing positive changes a site level.
We will be asking one simple question: On a scale of 0-10, how likely are you to recommend EV Cargo as a workplace?
The question will stay the same each quarter and you will also be given the opportunity to add text alongside your answer with any information you feel
will help deliver a better EV Cargo for all. All feedback will then be reviewed centrally by our leadership teams and discussed within localised Delivering Better meetings.
We appreciate your open and honest feedback, it’s only by gaining this that we are able to make positive changes.
On a scale of 0-10, how likely are you to recommend EV Cargo as a workplace?
To celebrate International Women’s Day and to get involved in the #EmbraceEquity campaign back in March we launched a series of podcasts to interview our colleagues across the globe. All colleagues are treated fairly and equally, and by raising awareness of women’s personal experiences we hope to move one step closer. Our episodes include:
• Being a Female HGV Driver
• Astronaut to Freight Forwarder
• Road to Senior Management
• How is EV Cargo Supporting Women?
EV Cargo has proactively recruited female applicants, promoted opportunities for women and made good progress in developing workplaces that accommodate the needs of female employees. EV Cargo aims to achieve a gender pay gap of less than 2%, at least 25% of senior management positions to held by females and at least 25% of female representation in governance bodies.
In 2022, we launched new
training programmes including the Aspirational Women Leadership Programme and Diversity & Inclusivity training for newly appointed managers.
EV Cargo also runs a Women Forward Lean In Circle to give and receive advice, set goals and celebrate each other’s wins, whilst navigating through our professional environment.
A Female Driver Forum has also been set up to connect female drivers across the
