Depuis ses débuts en 1999 et sa création officielle en 2001, la Fondation Cuomo a toujours eu une politique de « porte ouverte » pour répondre aux demandes d’aide quand cela était nécessaire, en particulier pour les individus les moins favorisés de la société.
Aujourd’hui, plus de 20 ans après, et avec la maturité de l’âge, la Fondation et moi-même, en tant que présidente co-fondatrice, avons analysé rétrospectivement toutes les actions menées, tant les réussites que les échecs, afin d’en tirer des enseignements qui contribueront à façonner les prochaines années de la Fondation.

donateurs. Ce qui signifie qu’il est crucial de déterminer, avant chaque projet, les objectifs et les finalités de ce dernier, tout comme le processus de son déroulement. Il est important d’établir la liste des résultats souhaités et les étapes spécifiques du projet, à la fois dans le temps et dans le contexte où il sera réalisé.
En parcourant l’histoire de notre organisation, deux actions majeures se distinguent par la réalisation de ces objectifs :
- L’édification et l’entretien d’écoles au Tamil Nadu, offrant à des milliers de jeunes, depuis 2001, la possibilité de faire des études, ainsi que l’introduction en 2004 des bourses d’études Cuomo pour les étudiants indiens.
- La construction du Centre cardiopédiatrique Cuomo (CCPC) à Dakar au Sénégal, qui a effectué avec succès plus de 1 000 opérations depuis 2017.
Ces programmes ambitieux ont eu un point de départ, nous continuons à les observer même si aujourd’hui, ils sont tous devenus autonomes avec succès et ne nécessitent plus notre intervention.
La Fondation a soutenu de nombreuses autres initiatives au cours de ses décennies d’existence, mais aucune n’a eu la même signification ou la même valeur. L’impact de nos actions en Inde et au Sénégal reste le plus gratifiant en termes de résultats positifs à long terme tant pour les bénéficiaires que pour les donateurs.
Mon défunt mari, Alfredo Cuomo, et moi-même avons bénéficié, quand nous étions étudiants, de bourses
d’études qui nous ont permis d’acquérir des connaissances supplémentaires, de développer notre expertise et de créer avec le temps une sécurité financière. Nous avons toujours été convaincus que la réussite s’accompagne d’une responsabilité envers les personnes moins fortunées. Ainsi dans ma vie privée, je reste engagée moralement et humainement pour soutenir de telles initiatives philanthropiques.
En tant que présidente de la Fondation Cuomo, j’ai le devoir d’offrir une plateforme de projets pouvant promouvoir et faciliter des engagements significatifs en faveur soit des communautés soit des individus aidés, dans l’espoir de créer un changement positif dans le monde.
Après plus de 20 ans de philanthropie et de mécénat en faveur de centaines d’actions diverses et de bonnes causes, dont nous avons été fiers et honorés de faire partie, la Fondation se tournera vers l’avenir avec une approche plus ciblée et se concentrera sur un nombre plus réduit de projets, mais encore plus significatifs pour nous, et pour la société.
Mai 2022, Monaco
Le chemin parcouru depuis plus de 20 ans par la Fondation Cuomo a permis à plus de 48 000 élèves en Inde, d’avoir accès à une éducation académique de qualité dans les 7 complexes scolaires construits et soutenus par notre organisation.
Plus de 500 jeunes étudiants indiens ont également bénéficié de la « Alfredo Cuomo Scholarship » pour accéder à des études supérieures et améliorer leurs parcours professionnels comme leurs vies privées.
550 jeunes identifiés par la Croix-Rouge Monégasque ont bénéficié du programme de bourses d’études, financé par la Fondation Cuomo, et ont pu accéder à des formations diplômantes pour réaliser leurs rêves.
1 000 patients ont pu être opérés au Centre Cardio-Pédiatrique Cuomo à Dakar grâce à l’investissement financier, humain mais aussi personnel de l’équipe de la Fondation pour sauver un maximum de vie.

une situation climatique insoutenable. De nombreux artistes ont été propulsés dans le monde de la Culture grâce aux initiatives culturelles menées à Monaco et en Italie, en particulier.
Des centaines de jeunes porteurs de handicap ont pu trouver un lieu de répit à Annot, où, avec leurs accompagnants, ils ont pu reprendre leur souffle grâce à des équipes et un lieu adapté à leurs besoins.

de notre climat à travers le partenariat qui réunit la Fondation Prince Albert II, le GIEC et la Fondation Cuomo.
Malgré ce bilan, il apparaît évident que cela ne suffit pas. Ces projets, tous pleins de sens et de bienveillance, sont autant de bouées lancées à la mer lors d’un naufrage mais en nombre insuffisant, de manière aléatoire : qui doit survivre ? Comment être encore plus efficient dans nos actions, dans les choix à faire : nous ne pouvons répondre favorablement à toutes les demandes.
C’est la question pour laquelle nous devons construire des réponses, adaptées aux enjeux d’aujourd’hui, avec discernement.

Ce destin est titillé par le danger méconnu du changement climatique contre lequel sont lancées des alertes ici et là mais qui, pour l’instant, ne parviennent pas à nous faire mettre de côté nos divisions et qui se heurte à, finalement, une attitude assez commune : celle de croire que les crises, qui marquent l’Histoire, n’arrivent qu’aux autres, ailleurs ou en tout cas, pas tout de suite : après moi le dégel...
Une équipe de scientifiques de l’Université de Lausanne (UNIL)
a publiée dans la revue « Global Environmental Change » les résultats
d’une étude menée par l’analyse de 50 000 publications scientifiques sur le changement climatique en 2020. Il en ressort que le fait que les médias pointent les catastrophes à venir dans « un espace géographique ou temporel lointain » ne provoque que « peu de mobilisation ». « Une des raisons à cela pourrait être que notre instinct de survie semble paramétré pour réagir aux risques imminents et proches ». Plusieurs manières de changer ce constat, consisteraient à « ne plus cantonner l’urgence climatique à la rubrique environnement » mais d’en faire une question transversale et de réveiller les énergies vivantes en multipliant les expérimentations et solutions « tests ».
La Fondation Cuomo a débuté cette mutation grâce à sa Présidente et son Conseil d’Administration depuis plus de 10 ans : car en fait, les enjeux climatiques sous entendent un défi majeur, celui de garantir l’évolution de la biodiversité, dont nous faisons partie. L’accès et le développement de la connaissance, l’Éducation, semblent être les outils de base pour influencer le futur à moyen terme.
Des actions verticales, qui changeraient rapidement certaines situations critiques seraient un excellent complément pour atteindre une stratégie performante.
Ces deux visions, à court et moyen terme devraient être scellées par des valeurs qui traversent le temps et les tempêtes.

PROGRAMME DE BOURSES D’ÉTUDES
Cette année encore, le partenariat historique entre la Fondation Cuomo et la Croix-Rouge Monégasque a permis d’octroyer des bourses d’études aux jeunes qui en ont le plus besoin.
La pertinence de cette initiative n’est plus à démontrer puisqu’entre 2002 et 2022, le budget attribué au programme de bourses d’études de la Croix-Rouge Monégasque a été multiplié par 6,35.
L’augmentation du budget s’explique par une meilleure identification des personnes en difficulté et une amélioration de la visibilité des réseaux d’entraide en Principauté. La détérioration du tissu socioéconomique de la région est également une des causes principales qui justifie de cette croissance significative.

Depuis 2013, année de la convention tripartite avec la Fondation Albert II et le GIEC, la Fondation Cuomo participe au Programme de bourses d’études pour soutenir la recherche sur les enjeux environnementaux actuels et futurs.
Les bénéficiaires sont tous issus de pays en voie de développement et préparent une thèse liée au changement climatique.

Une nouvelle promotion d’étudiants devrait être sélectionnée au début de l’été 2023 sur la base de dossiers de candidature retenus par le GIEC. Pour leur permettre de poursuivre et de mesurer l’impact des travaux entrepris par les doctorants, certains des boursiers des anciennes promotions sont encore aujourd’hui, soutenus par la Fondation Cuomo.

Le Tournoi Sainte Dévote est né en 2009 d’un échange entre la Fédération Monégasque de Rugby et le Rugby Club Lucciana en Corse.
Ce tournoi permet à des équipes composées d’enfants de moins de 12 ans de prendre part à une compétition internationale.
Après un hiatus de 2 ans, ce ne sont pas moins de 16 équipes, venues de 14 pays différents comme le Maroc, l’Équateur, les Émirats Arabes Unis ou encore l’Île Maurice, qui se sont affrontées.
La compétition s’est déroulée dans une très bonne atmosphère fidèle aux valeurs fondamentales de ce sport telles que la discipline, le respect et la camaraderie.

En 2012, la Fondation Cuomo a contribué financièrement à la construction de la Maison d’Amélie à Annot, dans le département des Alpes-deHaute-Provence.
Cette maison de répit est destinée aux jeunes porteurs de handicap et à leurs familles. Depuis lors, l’établissement est soutenu par notre organisation pour sa partie fonctionnement.
Ce projet novateur s’est étendu en 2018 avec la construction d’un gîte annexe, « La Maison des copains », toujours avec le soutien financier de la Fondation.
En 2020, l’Association gérante du projet Monaco Disease Power (MDP), a dû faire face à un taux d’annulation très élevé provoqué par les restrictions sanitaires de la pandémie. L’apport économique de la Fondation Cuomo est par conséquent devenu essentiel pour atteindre l’équilibre budgétaire.
En 2022, MDP a sollicité le soutien de la Fondation Cuomo pour le lancement d’une nouvelle phase destinée à construire des appartements qui
hébergeront des personnes sur de longues périodes.
Afin d’aider MDP dans ces nombreux projets, la Fondation a acquis lors de la vente aux enchères de la soirée de Gala de l’Association, le 19 octobre 2022, deux tableaux réalisés par Amélie et Benjamin, liés à la Maison d’Amélie.

Devenir parent est bien évidemment une formidable source de bonheur mais aussi de nombreux bouleversements et préoccupations.
Face à ces épreuves, il est parfois difficile de trouver les bons interlocuteurs et des réponses adaptées. C’est à partir de ce constat qu’Émilie, Johanna, Clémence et Anna, jeunes mamans mais aussi jeunes entrepreneuses, ont pris l’initiative de créer une plateforme numérique d’entraide pour les parents baptisée tout naturellement ‘Entreparents’.
La transition numérique et l’éducation font partie des enjeux de la société de demain et, pour ces raisons, la Fondation Cuomo a décidé de soutenir ce projet et a participé au financement du lancement de l’application.
Les différentes réunions de travail qui se sont déroulées cette année ont permis d’analyser les avancées du projet ainsi que d’apprécier les moyens de communication mis en œuvre pour faire connaitre le réseau ‘Entreparents’.
En parallèle, une collaboration est prévue avec le Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace (CHPG) de Monaco.
Les rencontres « Let’s Talk, Education » se multiplient ainsi que les publications sur Instagram et Facebook. Cinq réunions avec les parents, adhérents de l’association sont prévues en 2023. Une phase de tests pour valider le lancement de l’application mobile en juin 2023, sera réalisée entre décembre 2022 et mars 2023.
La banque CFM Indosuez Monaco a souhaité apporter son soutien aux actions de la Fondation Cuomo.
Une convention de partenariat a ainsi été signée le 22 décembre 2022 entre CFM Indosuez et la Fondation Cuomo au bénéfice de l’Association Zeine, basée au Burkina Faso.
La Fondation Cuomo est partenaire de l’Association Zeine depuis 2010 et soutient de nombreux projets locaux essentiels aux habitants du Burkina Faso, dont l’actuel, qui vise à réhabiliter huit forages d’eau buvable et à organiser la distribution de caprins à 70 familles démunies de Gorom Gorom.

Fondé par le prince Albert Ier de Monaco en 1906, l’Institut Océanographique de Monaco met en valeur, depuis sa création, l’engagement de la Principauté pour la préservation des océans et participe à de nombreux projets environnementaux sur la scène nationale et internationale.
L’Institut contribue ainsi à porter à l’attention d’un large public les enjeux vitaux qu’ils représentent pour l’avenir de notre planète.
La Fondation a soutenu les initiatives de l’Institut Océanographique, parmi lesquelles la réintroduction de tortues de terre, dans leur milieu naturel en Afrique de l’Ouest.

La prise en charge des jeunes de la rue au Burkina Faso est devenue une des priorités de ce pays, déchiré par les problèmes de sécurité et tout le déséquilibre que cela engendre.
Un protocole d’accord a été signé avec la Direction de la Coopération Internationale de Monaco ainsi qu’une convention de partenariat avec le Samu Social International afin de faciliter l’acquisition d’un terrain à Ouagadougou et la construction d’un centre d‘accueil et d’hébergement.

Le Centre Cardio-Pédiatrique
Cuomo (CCPC), devenu opérationnel en 2017, est le centre de référence unique en son genre de toute l’Afrique de l’Ouest.
Le plus grand témoignage de l’efficacité de cette structure fût la célébration du millième malade opéré au mois d’octobre 2022.
Le CCPC permet désormais à certains partenaires, dont la vocation est la prise en charge des enfants malades, de pouvoir développer un nouveau
concept, celui de l’axe Sud-Sud permettant de soigner des enfants des pays avoisinants sans les déplacer en Europe, ce qui est la prise en charge la plus humanitaire

La situation des opérations chirurgicales effectuées depuis 2017
Institution d’État placée sous l’autorité du Président de la République Française, grand maître de la Légion d’honneur, la Grande Chancellerie exerce trois missions relevant du service public et qui sont régies par le code de la Légion d’honneur.
Nous connaissons tous la Légion d’honneur, une décoration qui fut créée par Napoléon 1er, pas seulement pour récompenser les actes militaires de bravoure mais aussi remercier les civils français ou étrangers ayant contribué, d’une manière ou d’une autre, au rayonnement de la France. Les archives de cette décoration représentent un patrimoine historique inestimable ; c’est pourquoi le projet de leur sauvegarde appelé « Mémoire de l’Honneur » va permettre de pérenniser, pour les siècles à venir, l’histoire, les noms, les motifs, pour lesquels certaines personnes ont été promus à cette distinction.
L’Histoire ne peut se construire sans mémoire et l’Éducation ne peut pas se construire sans l’Histoire. Il est donc apparu évident que pour aider l’Éducation, il fallait préserver l’Histoire à travers ce projet élégant et ambitieux qu’est la Mémoire de l’Honneur.
Une autre mission peu connue du public, qui revient à la Grande Chancellerie de la Légion d’honneur, est celle de l’Éducation des jeunes filles dans des internats crées depuis 1805 et qui continuent en accueillant plus de 1 000 élèves, dont certaines sont orphelines, ou d’autres qui viennent de milieux défavorisés, dans les maisons d’éducation de la Légion d’honneur à Saint-Denis.
La modernité de ce concept de favoriser l’éducation des jeunes filles est frappante et reste un sujet d’actualité moins en Europe ou aux États-Unis mais toujours dans de nombreuses parties du monde. C’est pour cela que la Fondation, poursuivant sa mission éducative, a décidé de s’investir aussi, dans un futur proche, dans ce projet magnifique. MONTANT ATTRIBUÉ EN 2022

La diffusion de connaissances sur le changement climatique est inévitable dans le monde d’aujourd’hui. Ce phénomène permet de comprendre et de combattre les conséquences du réchauffement climatique, il encourage les gens à changer leur comportement et les aide à s’adapter à ce qui est déjà une urgence mondiale.
En Inde, les gens avaient dans l’idée que le changement climatique ne concernait que les pays étrangers mais pas eux. Cependant, les récentes inondations, tempêtes et changements de saison au Tamil Nadu ont poussé la population à repenser ses valeurs et ses priorités. L’éducation des générations futures les motivera et les habilitera à apprendre à relever les défis de demain.
La Fondation Cuomo travaille sans relâche pour enseigner l’importance du changement climatique dans le cœur et l’esprit des enfants.
Elle accorde des bourses en partenariat avec le Groupe
d’experts Intergouvernemental sur l’Évolution du Climat (GIEC) et la Fondation Prince Albert II de Monaco (FPA2) aux étudiants qui effectuent des recherches de doctorat sur des sujets liés au changement climatique.
Ayant tout cela à l’esprit, en 2019, la Fondation Cuomo a construit une école « verte » à Mambakkam (30 km de Chennai) afin que les élèves puissent comprendre clairement les enjeux du changement climatique et faire l’expérience de l’importance de ne faire qu’un avec la nature. En général, la ville de Chennai est décrite comme une ville chaude, sèche et poussiéreuse. C’est la perception
populaire des habitants. Mais pendant trois jours en novembre 2022, 500 rues de la ville étaient sous les eaux, et certaines banlieues ont été inondées pendant quelques semaines. Les experts en climatologie ont évalué la pluie qui a mis la ville à genoux, comme étant inhabituelle pour l’année de La Niña, durant laquelle les précipitations sont généralement faibles.
La population a pris le temps de comprendre l’impact du changement climatique sur les saisons et nous ne pouvons pas reporter l’urgence de ce sujet. C’est l’exigence du moment et le problème est imminent. Le gouvernement se joint à des ONG et à d’autres institutions sociales pour transmettre cette nécessité aux générations futures grâce à des campagnes de sensibilisation, l’ajout de ce sujet dans tous les programmes scolaires, une attention particulière et la fourniture de programmes de bourses aux étudiants qui effectuent des recherches sur les problèmes de l’environnement. C’est maintenant ou jamais. Nous ne pourrons peut-être plus utiliser le mot « saisons ».

Après une longue pause due à la Covid-19, toutes les écoles du Tamil Nadu ont rouvert le 10 juin 2022.
1200 élèves ont commencé à fréquenter l’école avec un esprit et un air détendu.
Pour encourager et motiver les étudiants dans l’école, la Fondation Cuomo a financé la mise en place de salles de classe « intelligentes ».
Les classes « intelligentes » aident à développer l’intérêt des élèves et évitent l’ennui. L’utilisation de la technologie intelligente en classe sucite l’attention en affichant des médias animés, tels que des vidéos, des images et de l’audio, ce qui crée de meilleurs résultats d’apprentissage.

Nouvelles initiatives pédagogiques :
• Des cours d’anglais oral ont été organisés pour les élèves de 6ème à la 9ème année après l’école le soir.
• Les cours d’informatique « Elena Cuomo » ont été renouvelés pour enseigner le langage informatique aux élèves de 6ème jusqu’à la 9ème année.
• Les classes de Silambam (arts martiaux du Tamil Nadu) et de Kung-Fu ont été introduites.
• Un accompagnement approprié pour les apprenants plus lents et des cours
d’orientation professionnelle ont été mis en place pour les élèves de 10ème et de 12ème année.
• Des classes d’orientation pour les enseignants ont été organisées pour améliorer leurs connaissances en enseignement de l’anglais.

Le lycée « Alfredo Cuomo » à Sendivakkam a très bien commencé sa nouvelle année scolaire en organisant un programme d’orientation professionnelle pour les étudiants et les enseignants le 13 août.
Le Dr. C. Francis, MSW, MBA, M.sc (Psychothérapie), Chef de département du travail social, consultant ONG, formateur en droits de l’homme, a été chargé de cette initiative.
Les principaux sujets abordés dans le cadre de ce programme étaient :
• L’implication des étudiants dans l’enseignement après la Covid-19.
• Comment surmonter la dépendance aux téléphones portables et aux réseaux sociaux.
• Campagne de sensibilisation aux drogues.
Quelques-uns des jeunes pensionnaires résidents de Sendivakkam ont été inscrits à un programme appelé « GO GREEN » pour planter de nouveaux arbres à l’intérieur du campus et de l’école a l’intention de commencer une pépinière « GO GREEN ».
Amala Annai Higher Secondary School, Mambakkam
L’administration diocésaine a transféré le père Velankanni à l’école secondaire maternelle St. Paul’s et a nommé le père C. Isaac Jaganathan comme nouveau correspondant de l’école secondaire Amala Annai.
L’année académique a commencé le 13 juin 2022.
Actuellement, il y a 616 étudiants dans l’école secondaire et 309 enfants dans l’école primaire.
Des programmes ont été organisés par la direction de l’école :
• Pour éviter l’échec de la planification, un programme d’orientation a été organisé pour les enseignants afin de rafraîchir leurs connaissances didactiques. Monsieur Kennedy et Monsieur Willet, membres d’une équipe de premier plan, ont animé ce programme.
• Madame Sarah Lieberson (conseillère de la Fondation Cuomo) et Monsieur Charles Kulandai (responsable de projet - Inde) ont participé à l’anniversaire de commémoration de Monsieur Alfredo Cuomo, organisé à l’école Amala Annai le 18 juillet. Des arbres ont été plantés et une nouvelle aire de jeux pour les enfants de l’école primaire a été inaugurée.

St. Charles Higher Secondary School, K.G.Kandigai
La nouvelle année scolaire a commencé le 13 juin 2022 et les étudiants sont entrés sur le campus avec le sourire aux lèvres. Le Révérend Père Austin Jose a accueilli les enseignants et les étudiants.
Faits marquants du calendrier académique :
• Le Révérend Dr. George Anthonysamy, archevêque de Madras-Mylapore, a visité le campus de l’école le 3 juillet et a eu une interaction fructueuse avec les enseignants et les étudiants.
• La rencontre sportive de zone s’est tenue du 20 août au 2 septembre à l’école secondaire supérieure pour garçons de Tiruttani. Les étudiants de St-Charles ont participé et ont remporté plusieurs catégories.
• Célébration de la Journée des enseignants qui s’est tenue le 5 septembre.
• Les élèves ont effectué divers événements culturels pour faciliter la journée des professeurs.
Programmes de Bourses Alfredo Cuomo et Elena Cuomo
En 2022, 45 étudiants ont terminé leurs études universitaires grâce au programme de bourses Alfredo Cuomo. Ils ont tous été élèves des écoles de la Fondation Cuomo : 25 de Kovalam, 10 de Sendivakkam et 10 de K.G.Kandigai.
Depuis sa création en 2004, plus de 586 étudiants ont bénéficié de ce programme de soutien à l’éducation pour les défavorisés et les plus méritants.
En outre, 3 étudiantes, Mesdemoiselles L.Deepa, G.P Amala et Desiya Geetha, ont réussi à obtenir leur diplôme universitaire grâce au programme de bourses Elena Cuomo.
Cette année, la Fondation Cuomo évalue son programme de bourses en général et souhaite apporter certaines modifications dans le cadre de l’évolution du programme. La version modifiée entrera en vigueur à partir de la nouvelle année scolaire en juin 2023.
Activités périscolaires
• Un communiqué public a été fait pour attirer plus d’étudiants dans les écoles pour cette nouvelle année académique.
• Des cours de coaching ont été mis en place pour les élèves des écoles, de la sixième à la dixième année. Ceci devrait améliorer leurs connaissances pour passer avec succès leurs examens publics et autres (NEET, examen public du 12e degré).
• Un coaching intensif va être mis en place après les heures de cours afin d’améliorer les résultats aux examens du gouvernement (élèves de 10e, 11e et 12e années).
• Des cours d’orientation spéciaux seront organisés pour les enseignants afin d’améliorer leurs compétences
et d’offrir une formation/un enseignement de qualité aux élèves.
• Une planification de divers programmes générateurs de revenus pour soutenir les écoles en coordination avec les diocèses respectifs.
• Le programme de bourses d’études Alfredo Cuomo est en cours de redéfinition pour les étudiants qui font des recherches sur des sujets pertinents et d’intérêts communs.

Roshan termine sa licence en informatique au Patrician College of Arts & Science, à Chennai. Il entre dans la troisième et dernière année de son cursus. Il prévoit de suivre une formation en Anglais « intensif » lors d’un séjour long à Londres en 2023.
Jennifer a reçu son diplôme pour son Master en commerce terminé l’an dernier. Elle travaille à la HDFC Bank depuis plus d’un an et prépare, en parallèle, un MBA avec une spécialisation en Ressources Humaines.

Une convention a été signée, en Argentine, le 05 mars 2022, entre l’Université Humboldt en Allemagne et l’institut d’origine de Pedro Fernandez, l’Institut National de Technologie Agricole.
Le chercheur s’est déplacé à Berlin, au mois d’août, pour commencer son étude sur la transition vers la durabilité de l’élevage de bétail dans les forêts sèches.
Extrait du rapport transmis par l’Université de Berlin :
« Au cours des quatre derniers mois, le projet «L’élevage durable du bétail dans les forêts tropicales sèches d’Amérique du Sud» a progressé comme prévu par le Dr Fernandez. D’une part, le Dr Fernandez a mené une étude systématique de l’élevage de bétail dans les diagonales sèches d’Amérique du Sud, et un manuscrit, examinant les lacunes dans les
connaissances et les possibilités de les combler, a commencé à être rédigé. D’autre part, les efforts de cartographie pour caractériser l’intensification de l’élevage ont débuté, et les données d’entraînement ont été préparées. Nous avons initié l’identification des méthodes d’apprentissage automatique et d’apprentissage profond pour cartographier les parcs d’engraissement et les sacs d’ensilage pour l’ensemble de la région du Chaco, et les modèles seront calibrés par le Dr Fernandez et un autre doctorant avec l’équipe du laboratoire.
Enfin, de nouveaux réseaux ont été construits pour résoudre le problème dans le cadre d’une recherche collaborative avec l’université d’Alto (Finlande), l’Université catholique de Louvain (Belgique) et l’Université d’État de Madison (États-Unis). Les chercheurs de ces institutions contribueront à la réalisation des questions de recherche, en particulier dans les biomes de Cerrado et de Caatinga. En ce sens, des
organisations locales ont également été contactées, notamment en Bolivie et au Paraguay, et contribueront au processus par des formations sur le terrain et la validation des données. Au cours des trois prochains mois, le Dr Fernandez achèvera les efforts de cartographie pour le Chaco sec et la Chiquitanie, et soumettra le manuscrit de synthèse à une revue à comité de lecture. En outre, deux manuscrits de recherche seront rédigés en abordant les questions clés du problème. »

Après avoir parcouru 2500 kilomètres, en caravane personnalisée avec le logo de la fondation, depuis Cordoba en Argentine jusqu’à Rio de Janeiro au Brésil, le couple de danseurs Ana AMARILLO et Guillermo ANASTASI sont revenus à Buenos Aires fin mars. Le nombre de participants aux spectacles et cours de danse a été estimé à 540 personnes venant principalement d’Argentine, mais aussi de Bolivie, Pérou, Colombie, Chili, Venezuela.
D’après les rapports d’Ana AMARILLO, certains professionnels du milieu du tango préfèrent garder l’exclusivité de la pratique de cette danse « à portes fermées », dans des écoles et des clubs privés, mais des initiatives telles que ce projet permettent de ramener le tango dans la rue, à ses origines, c’est-à-dire, une danse populaire accessible à tout le monde.

Monsieur Behki Maliba a débuté cette formation en gestion d’entreprise (MBA), avec l’objectif futur d’acquérir une ferme où il utilisera des technologies modernes pour développer une agriculture durable à Johannesburg en Afrique du Sud.
Le premier versement a été effectué en 2022.

Présenté par Igor Oliveira, ingénieur forestier, l’ancien boursier du GIEC, en novembre 2020, le projet « EducAIR » a lancé des campagnes de sensibilisation à Manaus, dans des écoles publiques de l’État et aussi au niveau national :
« Depuis le début du projet, nous n’imaginions pas que nous aurions une telle résistance de la part des lycées publics à la mise en œuvre d’un projet universitaire. Les principales raisons de cette résistance sont les suivantes :
1. les écoles sont à plein temps, sans salles disponibles pour que nous puissions y réaliser nos ateliers ;
2. les enseignants ne veulent pas s’engager à nous aider dans le contrôle opérationnel et la maintenance des capteurs de qualité de l’air dans les écoles ;
3. certaines écoles ne sont pas entièrement sécurisées et les capteurs peuvent être volés (le directeur de l’école ne veut pas prendre ce risque) ;
4. Les directeurs d’école ne peuvent prendre des mesures pour suspendre les cours en raison de la pollution de l’air qu’en recevant un ordre formel et officiel du département de la santé de l’État, ou du département de l’éducation et, principalement, de la Défense Civile de l’État d’Amazonas.
Légalement, il n’est pas possible d’agir seul. Les capteurs, installés dans les deux écoles, servent uniquement à des fins scientifiques et éducatives, et nous bénéficions d’un soutien local. Nous avons également réalisé des activités de sensibilisation au sein des communautés, notamment à l’école indigène, le programme des futurs scientifiques et le projet CLIMAS.
La prochaine étape a été de conclure un partenariat avec la Défense Civile de l’État d’Amazonas afin que ces informations puissent être utilisées comme référence pour toute mesure de suspension des activités dans les communautés et des cours dans les écoles de la région pendant la période critique des incendies de forêt. Grâce à ce partenariat officiel, nous atteindrons toutes les écoles
publiques et tous les étudiants de l’État d’Amazonas, soit environ 1,2 million d’étudiants de l’enseignement de base (données du ministère de l’Éducation, 2021).
Nous sommes actuellement en train d’élaborer un protocole de coopération technique entre l’université et la Défense Civile, afin de formaliser ce partenariat de 24 mois, essentiel pour atteindre nos objectifs.
Tout ce processus a été une excellente expérience d’apprentissage pour nous. Parallèlement, nous continuerons à travailler pour que le projet «EducAIR» devienne un outil public d’éducation et de surveillance de la qualité de l’air au cours des prochaines années. »
Chaque année, l’Association « Dizenidani » organise le Concours « Dora » qui a pour mission de mettre en valeur la décoration murale traditionnelle kassena.
Une fois encore, et malgré un contexte d’insécurité grandissante, la Fondation a financé la 7ème édition de la compétition qui s’est déroulée du 16 au 19 mars 2022 à la Cour Royale de Tiébélé, au Burkina Faso.
Les jeunes filles, élèves des onze lycées et collèges participants, ont, pendant ces quatre jours, été formées aux techniques et ont pu se familiariser avec les matériaux naturels nécessaires à la réalisation des œuvres. Elles ont ensuite eu l’occasion d’appliquer les conseils reçus et démontrer ainsi leur talent.
Leurs efforts ont été récompensés lors de la cérémonie de remise des prix durant laquelle elles ont reçu de nombreux cadeaux.

expédition dans l’Himalaya :
« Le réchauffement rapide de l’atmosphère depuis le milieu du XXe siècle a augmenté les processus d’érosion et de transport de sédiments dépendant de la température dans les environnements froids, ce qui affecte la sécurité alimentaire, énergétique et hydrique. Dans cette revue, nous résumons les changements de paysage dans les environnements froids et fournissons un inventaire mondial des augmentations de l’érosion et du rendement sédimentaire entraînées par la dégradation de la cryosphère. Le changement climatique anthropique, la déglaciation et les perturbations thermokarstiques
entraînent une augmentation des processus de mobilisation et de transport des sédiments dans les bassins glaciérisés et périglaciérisés. Avec la dégradation continue de la cryosphère, le transport de sédiments continuera à augmenter jusqu’à atteindre un maximum (pic de sédiments). Ensuite, le transport passera probablement d’un régime dépendant de la température à un régime dépendant des précipitations, approximativement entre 2100 et 2200. Le moment de ce changement de régime sera régulé par les changements dans les eaux de fonte, les précipitations érosives et l’érodabilité du paysage, et compliqué par les rétroactions géo morphiques et la connectivité. Des progrès supplémentaires dans l’intégration des observations de sédiments multi sources, le développement de modèles de transport de sédiments basés sur la physique et l’amélioration
de la collaboration scientifique interdisciplinaire et internationale sont nécessaires pour prévoir la dynamique des sédiments dans un monde en réchauffement. »
Une convention a été signée le 21 mars 2022 entre l’Université National de Singapour, le docteur Dong Feng Li et la Fondation Cuomo.

En 2016, la Fondation Cuomo a entamé des pourparlers avec le directeur du Centre d’études sur l’efficacité énergétique et les processus technologiques (CEEPROT) de l’Université de Las Tunas à Cuba.
Les discussions ont porté sur la mise en place d’une installation équipée pour la recherche, la formation et le développement des énergies renouvelables. L’objectif principal de ce partenariat était de favoriser l’utilisation des sources d’énergie renouvelables dans la région, en mettant l’accent sur celles qui présentent un fort potentiel, telles que l’énergie solaire, la biomasse, l’éolien et l’hydraulique.
Après deux années de négociations avec les autorités locales cubaines, un accord a été conclu en 2018. L’année suivante, une première commande d’équipements techniques, financée par la Fondation Cuomo, a pu être finalisée.
En 2022, l’Université a proposé une nouvelle initiative qui permettrait aux étudiants recommandés par la Fondation Cuomo et intéressés par la recherche sur les énergies renouvelables de participer à une session de formation de quatre
semaines au sein du nouveau centre. Ces programmes de formation seraient offerts gratuitement à ces «stagiaires», qui ne prendraient en charge que les frais de transport et d’hébergement.

«Babel : un voyage initiatique au centre de la Terre pour tenter de sauver la planète» a été représenté par 140 enfants sur la scène de l’Opéra de Nice du 21 au 30 juin.
Cet opéra « participatif » sur les enjeux du changement climatique, a été composé et dirigé par Sergio Monterisi et mis en scène par Magali Thomas, qui en a également écrit le livret.
Tous les jeunes élèves étaient issus d’écoles primaires niçoises, dont certains en situation de handicap.
La production de Babel marque la deuxième participation des enfants à la saison de l’Opéra de Nice.

L’Artimuse est le club nautique des étudiants de Sciences Po, la prestigieuse Grande École française.
L’Artimuse est aussi une association à but non lucratif qui sensibilise les étudiants à la voile à travers ses «Journées de la Voile».
Elle œuvre aussi pour sensibiliser les étudiants en organisant des conférences sur l’environnement marin et la protection des océans.
L’association contribue à la renommée de Sciences Po en participant à l’EDHEC Sailing Cup, le plus grand événement sportif des étudiants d’Europe et la plus grande régate interuniversitaire en mer.
Cette course ne serait pas possible sans le soutien financier d’importants partenariats avec le secteur privé.

L’année 2022 a vu se dérouler la 31ème édition du Concours International de Piano «Roma», organisé par l’Association Culturelle «Frédéric Chopin» en partenariat avec la Fondation Cuomo.
Dans le magnifique cadre du théâtre Palladium de l’Université Roma Tre, le Maestro Marcella Crudeli, directrice artistique et fondatrice du concours, a dirigé la soirée de remise des prix avec le concert des lauréats, qui a consacré le premier prix dans la catégorie «Chopin» à Denis Linnik, 27 ans. D’origine biélorusse, le jeune pianiste a enthousiasmé l’ensemble du jury international, présidé par Marcella Crudeli, ainsi que le public, par sa personnalité et son interprétation remarquable du « Concerto n°2 en fa mineur op.21 » de Chopin, accompagné par l’orchestre Roma Tre, dirigé par Pawel Piotr Gorajski.
Un deuxième prix Chopin a été attribué au pianiste Russe de 25 ans, Vsevolod Brigida.
Le vainqueur du Concours, Denis Linnik, a gagné un prix en espèces et a eu l’opportunité d’enregistrer et de promouvoir un album avec la maison de disque, KNS Classical, ainsi qu’un
cadeau du Club Unesco de Rome. En 2023, il aura la possibilité de se produire lors de 10 concerts en Italie et dans le monde entier.
Ce résultat vient conclure les deux semaines de travail de la sélection des meilleurs pianistes parmi les 91 jeunes inscrits, originaires de 14 pays de trois continents (Chine, Corée, Allemagne, Japon, Grande-Bretagne, Israël, Italie, Norvège, Pologne, République tchèque, Russie, Etats-Unis, Suisse, Ukraine), qui ont participé au concours dans les 5 sections.

Le plus important est d’avoir eu, en tant que vainqueur du concours, l’occasion de jouer en solo des récitals en Italie, en Belgique et Pologne.

Pour la quatrième année consécutive, la Fondation Cuomo est le sponsor officiel du prestigieux prix « Premio Roma Danza ».
Le concours de danse - parrainé par la municipalité de Rome - célèbre sa 20ème édition. L’évènement s’est déroulé du 8 au 12 juillet 2022 dans la magnifique Académie Nationale de Danse située sur l’Aventin, l’une des sept collines de Rome.
Le « Premio Roma Danza » a enfin retrouvé la scène du Teatro Grande, après les deux dernières éditions organisées en ligne à cause de la pandémie. Les spectateurs ont assisté à une magnifique soirée ainsi qu’à la remise des prix financés par la Fondation Cuomo.
De nombreux danseurs de nationalités différentes se sont succédés durant plusieurs jours dans les deux sections proposées, la chorégraphie et la vidéo danse avec trois catégories : « Dance Movie », « Dance Published Production » et « Smartphone dance ».
Le concours international a vu, pour la deuxième année de suite, l’implication des municipalités de Rome avec le prix « Roma Capitale ». L’objectif de ce prix, qui s’unie au « Premio Roma Danza »,
est de donner la possibilité aux jeunes romains de raconter et de valoriser leur territoire, leur quartier et ses particularités.
Comme chaque année, la directrice Maria Enrica Palmieri, a scrupuleusement choisi un jury international de renom. La section chorégraphie a été présidée par Shaun Parker, chorégraphe australien, tandis que la section vidéo danse a été dirigée par Adriano De Santis, directeur du centre expérimental de la cinématographie à Rome.
La soirée de Gala s’est déroulée le 12 juillet, en plein air, dans le Teatro Grande en présence de 450 personnes venus assister à l’exhibition de jeunes et talentueux danseurs.

Le professeur Daniel Cataldo, docteur en médecine et spécialiste en chirurgie plastique, réparatrice et esthétique, a consacré la majeure partie de sa vie professionnelle à des missions humanitaires.
Il est également l’un des membres fondateurs de l’initiative « Opération Sourire-Servant », créée en 1996 par le professeur Jean Marie Servant. En collaboration avec l’hôpital Saint-Louis à Paris et Médecins du Monde, l’équipe a réalisé de nombreuses interventions chirurgicales en Afrique. Menées principalement à l’hôpital national de Niamey au Niger, ces missions humanitaires ont changé la vie de centaines d’enfants et d’adultes atteints du Noma, de malformations congénitales, de cancer et de graves brûlures au visage.
Au début des années 1990, Monsieur et Madame Alfredo Cuomo ont fait la connaissance du Dr Cataldo et du professeur Servant. En tant que donateurs privés, ils ont contribué au financement et à la collecte de fonds supplémentaires pour soutenir les premières actions de l’Opération Servant.
En 2010, la Fondation Cuomo a parrainé la mission « Special Luigi Frateschi Support », basée, elle aussi, à Niamey. Cette action a redonné « le sourire » à 40 jeunes patients.
En 2014, lors d’une cérémonie officielle tenue à l’Aula Magna de la Faculté de médecine de l’Université de Buenos Aires, l’Asociación Médica Argentina (AMA) a décerné au Dr Cataldo le titre de « Médecin de l’année ». Cette distinction exceptionnelle a été une véritable reconnaissance de l’implication du Dr Cataldo dans l’action humanitaire et de sa carrière exemplaire.
En 2022, afin de promouvoir le travail vital du Dr Cataldo, la Fondation Cuomo a accepté de financer la distribution d’éditions spéciales de son ouvrage, « Face Reconstructive Surgery », dans des institutions médicales et des universités prestigieuses en Afrique, en Asie, en Europe et en Amérique latine.

« Il y a dix ans, j’ai commencé à écrire ce livre, le seul du genre dans la littérature médicale mondiale. Les objectifs furent alors de trouver des donateurs pour aider à couvrir les coûts de cette entreprise (impression et distribution), de financer de nouvelles recherches sur la maladie et enfin d’encourager de nouvelles missions humanitaires à travers le monde. »

Awa est une jeune étudiante sénégalaise que la Fondation Cuomo suit depuis 2012.
C’est en effet l’année où elle a subi la première de ces deux interventions cardiaques, réalisée par le professeur Gilles Dreyfus, à Dakar, dans le cadre d’une mission humanitaire. Elle a dû être opérée une nouvelle fois en 2021, à Paris.
Ces opérations réussies ont permis à Awa de reprendre le chemin de l’école et de poursuivre une scolarité normale.
Le soutien de la Fondation Cuomo ne s’est pas arrêté aux portes du bloc opératoire puisque depuis 2017, une bourse d’études lui est octroyée afin de mener à bien ses études supérieures en France.
Elle a réussi à intégrer, à la rentrée universitaire 2022, une formation en licence 3 mention Sciences de la Vie, parcours biologie cellulaire et moléculaire à l’Université de NantesUFR de sciences et techniques.

Les Itinéraires Artistiques de Saint-Louis, au Sénégal, sont organisés par l’Association « Ndar Créations » depuis 2013.
Cet évènement a pour objet d’offrir à de jeunes artistes non seulement de la visibilité mais aussi de leur permettre d’échanger sur leurs parcours et leurs techniques.
La Fondation Cuomo a soutenu la 8ème Édition des Itinéraires Artistiques de Saint-Louis, qui s’est déroulée du 07 Mai au 10 Juin 2022 et qui a vu la participation de talents venus des différentes régions du Sénégal, de la Gambie et de la Mauritanie.
Cette année, l’exposition a rencontré un succès sans précédent puisque 1 625 personnes sont venues admirer les 65 œuvres présentées.

Since its very early beginnings in 1999 and its formal establishment as the Cuomo Foundation in 2001, the Foundation has had an opendoor policy of responding where aid is requested especially for the less advantaged in societies. Now over 20 years later and with the maturity of age, the Foundation and myself, as the co-founding president, have retrospectively analysed the actions taken, both the successes and failures, to draw insights that will help shape the future of the Foundation. In my opinion, the most meaningful actions are those that positively impact both the recipients and the donors. To clarify, it is crucial to determine the goals and objectives, as well as the final completion target, both in terms of time and location, at the very beginning of any project. It is important to define the desired outcomes and specific milestones of a project, both temporally and spatially.

Reviewing the history of the Foundation, two major actions stand out as achieving these aims:
- Building and maintenance of schools in Tamil Nadu, India, providing thousands of young people with educational opportunities since 2002,and the introduction in 2004 of the Cuomo Scholarships for Indian students
- Establishing The Cuomo Paediatric Cardiac Centre in Dakar, Senegal, which has performed over 1,000 successful paediatric operations since 2017
These enormous programmes had a starting point, and even though we continue our observation of them, they have all become successfully selfsustaining and no longer require our intervention.
The Foundation has sponsored numerous other initiatives over its decades of existence, yet none have had the same meaning or value. The impact of our actions in India and Senegal remains the most gratifying in terms of the long-term positive outcomes for both the beneficiaries and the givers.
Both my late husband, Alfredo Cuomo, and I were awarded academic scholarships which enabled us to gain further knowledge, expertise, and create financial security. It has always been our belief that with wealth comes a societal responsibility to assist those less fortunate. In my own remaining lifetime, I stay committed to supporting such philanthropic initiatives yet in a personal and private way.
In my role as president of the Cuomo
Foundation, I have the professional responsibility of offering a platform that can promote and facilitate significant commitments to support communities and aid individuals and hopefully create positive change in the world.
And so, after more than 20 years of philanthropy and patronage for hundreds of diverse actions and good causes of which we have been proud and honoured to be part of, the Foundation will now look to the future with a more focussed approach and will evolve into concentrating on fewer, but critically for us, more meaningful projects.
The path travelled by the Cuomo Foundation for the past twenty years has allowed over 48,000 students in India to have access to quality academic education in the 7 school complexes built and supported by our organisation.
The “Alfredo Cuomo Scholarship” has additionally assisted over 500 young Indian students pursue further education to improve their professional development and personal life in general.
550 young individuals identified by the Monaco Red Cross have benefited from the scholarship programme funded by the Cuomo Foundation and have been able to access diploma courses to realise their dreams.
1,000 patients have been successfully operated at the Cuomo Cardio Paediatric Centre in Dakar, thanks to the financial, human, and personal investment of the Foundation’s team in saving lives.
49 Borewells have been rehabilitated and/or built in Burkina Faso, to help populations affected by war and an unsustainable climate environment.

Numerous artists have been launched into the world of culture through cultural initiatives carried out, particularly in Monaco and Italy. Hundreds of young people with disabilities have found a place of respite in Annot, where, along with their caregivers, they have been able to catch their breath thanks to teams and facilities adapted to their needs.

Despite this progress, it is evident that it is not enough.
These meaningful and compassionate projects are like lifebuoys thrown into the sea during a shipwreck, but their number is insufficient, randomly distributed and who survives? How can we be even more efficient in our decisions and actions, given that we cannot respond favourably to all requests?
This is the question to which we must build answers, adapted to the challenges of today, with discernment. The crisis caused by COVID has momentarily overshadowed a major challenge, which is that of our destiny and that of future generations: the children of our children, the children of our loved ones, our friends, our neighbours, our enemies today, and perhaps allies tomorrow.
This destiny is being teased by the unknown danger of climate change, which is being alerted here and there but has so far failed to make us put aside our divisions. Ultimately, it confronts a rather common attitude: the belief that crises, which shape history, only happen to others, somewhere else, or at least not immediately—after me, the thaw...
A team of scientists from the University of Lausanne (UNIL) published in the journal “Global Environmental Change” the results of a study conducted through the analysis of 50,000 scientific publications on climate change in 2020.
The study reveals that when the media highlights future disasters in a “distant geographical or temporal space” it only triggers “limited mobilization”. One reason for this could be that our survival instinct seems to be programmed to react to imminent and close risks.
Several ways to change this observation would involve “not confining the climate emergency to the environmental section” but making it a cross-cutting issue and awakening vibrant energies by multiplying experimentation and “test” solutions.
For more than a decade, the President and Board of Directors of the Cuomo Foundation have been committed to this transformation because they recognize that climate challenges require us to take significant steps to protect and promote biodiversity, which includes ourselves.
Vertical actions that can quickly change certain critical situations would be an excellent complement to achieve an effective strategy.
Access to and development of knowledge and education appear to be fundamental tools for influencing the foreseeable future.
These two visions, short-term and medium-term, should be founded on ideals that can survive the test of time and storms.

The Cuomo Foundation and the Monaco Red Cross continue their long-standing partnership, especially when it comes to sponsoring scholarships for deserving young people.
Since 2002, the Cuomo Foundation has supported the Monaco Red Cross scholarship programme, which has proven to have a positive impact. As a result, the Foundation has increased its yearly contributions significantly. In fact the budget has multiplied by 6.35. Several factors have led to this, such as a greater appreciation of those in dire need, more visibility, and easier access to support resources within the Principality.
This increase in support is a timely response to the region’s worsening socioeconomic condition.

Since 2009, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has granted scholarships to PhD candidates from underdeveloped nations, aimed at supporting research that furthers the comprehension of the scientific foundations of climate change risks, their potential ramifications, and the means to adapt or contain them.
The IPCC Scholarship Programme Awards are granted every 2 years and are made possible through the contributions of its funding partners.
The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation became a funding partner in 2011 and the Cuomo Foundation became party to the agreement between The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and the IPCC in 2013.
The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, the Cuomo Foundation and the AXA Research Fund supported the Sixth Round of Awards which were made in 2021 for 2021-2023 programme.

The 10th Sainte Dévote Rugby tournament was held in May 2022, after a 2-year hiatus due to the pandemic. This annual event promotes the idea of ‘Rugby for All’ and was established in 2009 to link the town of Lucciana in Corsica with the Principality as they shared the patron saint of Sainte Dévote.
Young players under 12 years old from 14 countries including Mauritius, Ireland, Belgium, the United Arab Emirates, Morocco, Georgia, and Ecuador came together in Monaco to play the game and celebrate the virtues it seeks to uphold: unity, integrity, teamwork, and respect.
The competition particularly emphasised the importance of inclusivity for persons of all abilities and included accessible activities designed for young people with disabilities. Other activities offered young children ages 2 to 6 years old the chance to gain familiarity with the sport.

The Maison d’Amélie is a respite home for children with disabilities and their families located in Annot, in the region of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.
The Cuomo Foundation contributed to its construction in 2012 and has supported the organization’s operation ever since. The venture was expanded in 2018 with the building of a new cottage called «La Maison des Copains « also with funding from the Foundation. The organization faced a very high cancellation rate during the Covid pandemic in 2020 and 2021 and the Foundation’s financial support during this difficult period was essential in achieving financial stability.
In 2022, a new building project was announced aimed at construction of additional apartments for longterm residential stays. The Cuomo Foundation was able to help support this new project by successfully bidding for two paintings auctioned at the Monaco Disease Power Gala auction event.

We understand that the ambitions of “Entreparents“ are to assist and support people in better communicating with one another.”
- Maria Elena Cuomo Monaco, October, 2022“Entreparents” is a new parenting support concept that aims to connect new and future parents in the Principality and to assist them with practical solutions, answers to questions, and highlight available services.
The original concept for the mobile App was devised by 4 young mothers in response to the problems they had identified of many other new parents feeling isolated, unsupported, and illinformed.
The integration of digital technology and education is one of the difficulties confronting today’s society, which is
why the Cuomo Foundation chose to support this initiative by 4 young female entrepreneurs. Several working meetings were conducted in 2022 to review the project’s status and discuss the communication strategies used to promote “Entreparents”. Funded by the Government of Monaco, the Cuomo Foundation and Monaco Telecom, and developed by Carlo Technologies the “Entreparents” will launch in 2023. In addition, a similar partnership with the Princess Grace Hospital Centre (CHPG) is now being planned.

The CFM Indosuez is a leading bank in Monaco and has been serving international clients for over 100 years.
In 2022, the bank approached the Cuomo Foundation to offer to support some of the actions of the Foundation. A partnership agreement was signed on Dec 22,2022 between CFM Indosuez and the Cuomo Foundation to benefit the Zeine Association, a grassroots organization that promotes social projects for agricultural communities in Gorom-Gorom, Burkino Faso.
The Cuomo Foundation has been a partner of the Zeine Association since 2010 and supports many critical local projects including the drilling and maintenance of boreholes creating accessible and safe drinking water. A new initiative to be managed by the Zeine Association and funded through the Cuomo Foundation by the CFM Indosuez will see the rehabilitation of 8 safe drinking water wells and the purchase and distribution of goats to 70 vulnerable families in the GoromGorom region.

The Institute of Oceanography was founded by Prince Albert I of Monaco in 1906, the greatgreat-grandfather of the current honorary president H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco.
The Institute is the research body of the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco and the House of the Oceans in Paris and is involved in numerous environmental projects on the national and international scene. Importantly, it contributes to the Principality’s own commitment to protecting the ocean and to disseminating the science of Oceanography to the public through communication, educational programmes, outreach projects, exhibitions, and symposiums.
In 2022, the Cuomo Foundation committed to supporting the Institute’s activities and aims, which play such an important educational role in conserving the marine environment and its inhabitants for the future.

Samu Social de Paris was established in 1993, and Samu Social International in 1998.
The Samu Social Burkino Faso was founded in 2001 to assist youngsters living in extremely vulnerable situations on the streets of Ouagadougou, Burkino Faso’s capital.
In 2022, the Cuomo Foundation and the Directorate of International Cooperation of Monaco signed a protocol agreement to collaborate with Samu Social International to fund the purchase of a suitable site for the construction of a support and accommodation centre to benefit and aid the street children of Ouagadougou.

“Imparting knowledge about climate change is inevitable in today’s world. This phenomenon helps to understand and tackle the consequences of global warming, encourages people to change their behaviour and helps them to adapt to what is already a global emergency. People in India believed that the effects of climate change only applied to other countries and not to us. However, recent storms, floods and changing of seasons in Tamil Nadu has urged and forced everyone to rethink their values and priorities. Education to the future generation will motivate and empower them to learn and tackle the challenges of tomorrow.
Cuomo Foundation has been relentlessly working to instil the importance of Climate Change in the hearts and minds of children. Scholarships are offered by the Cuomo Foundation in Monaco in collaboration with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation (FPA2) and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for students pursuing PhDs in climate change-related fields.
With all of this in mind, in 2019 the Cuomo Foundation built a green school in Mambakkam to help the students better comprehend climate change and the value of living in harmony with environment.
Chennai is typically described as being hot, dry, and dusty. That is how most people view Chennai. But in November 2022, over 500 city streets were under water for three days. Several suburbs experienced weeks-long flooding. Climate experts deemed the rainstorm that hit the city hard over the weekend of November 6–8 extraordinary in a year of La Nina, when rainfall is generally poor.
People have taken time to understand the seasonal impact on the climate change, but we cannot postpone the urgency of this topic. It is the need of the hour, and the problem is imminent. Government joining hands with NGO’s and other social institutions try to inculcate in the minds of future generation. There needs to be awareness programmes, adding this topic in all the school syllabus, special focus and provide scholarship programme for the students who do research on climate change. It’s either now or never. Soon the word “SEASONS” may not be available to us.”

After the long hiatus due to Covid 19, all the Schools in Tamil Nadu reopened in early June.
To encourage and motivate the students in the school, Cuomo Foundation sponsored smart classrooms in each school supported by Cuomo Foundation.
Smart classes help in developing interest among students and avoid boredom. The use of smart technology in the class attracts students’ attention by displaying animated media, such as videos, pictures, and audio which creates better learning outcomes.

Alfredo Cuomo Higher Secondary School, Sendivakkam held an orientation day on the 13th August with a Career Guidance Programme for students and teachers.
Dr C Francis MSW, MBA,M.sc (Counselling Psychology), Ph.D, Head of the department of social work, NGO Consultant and Trainer in Human Rights was the resource person appointed in charge of this initiative.
The main topics covered under this programme were:
- Student involvement in education after Covid-19
- How to overcome addiction to mobiles
- Drugs awareness camp
- Some of the younger Residential student boarders at Sendivakkam were introduced to a programme called GO GREEN for planting new trees inside the campus and the school hopes to start a GO GREEN Nursery Farm.

The New Academic year began on the 13th of June and Rev Fr Austin Jose welcomed the teachers and the students.
Highlights of the academic calendar
The diocesan administration transferred Fr. Velankanni to St. Paul’s Mat. Hr. Sec. School and appointed Fr. C. Isaac Jaganathan to be the new correspondent of Amala Annai Hr. Sec. School.
The academic year commenced on the 13th of June ,2022.
Currently there are 616 students in the higher secondary school and there are 309 children in the primary school.
- Most Rev Dr George Anthonysamy made a visit to the school campus on 3rd July and had a positive interaction with the teachers and the students
- Zonal sports meet was held from 20th August to 2nd September at Dr Radhakrishnan Boys – Higher Secondary School in Tiruttani. The St Charles students participated and won many categories
- Teachers’ day celebration held on 5th September
- Students performed various cultural events to facilitate the teachers on this day
In 2022, a total of 45 male and female students completed their college studies supported by the Alfredo Cuomo Scholarship programme. All 45 students were pupils at the Cuomo Foundation schools; 25 from Kovalam and 10 each from Sendivakkam and K.G.Kandigai.
Since its inception in 2004 over 586 students have benefitted from this programme for support for education for the disadvantaged.
In addition, 3 Female students Ms L.Deepa (B.E) , Ms G.P Amala (B.E) and Ms Desiya Geetha (Pharmacy) successfully obtained their respective
college graduation degrees through being supported by the Elena Cuomo Scholarship programme for the last 3 years.
The Cuomo Foundation is evaluating its Indian scholarship programme in general and plans to bring certain amendments as part of the evolution of the programme. A modified version will come into effect from the new academic year of June 2023.
- Public announcements made to attract more students to enrol in the schools for new academic years.
- Coaching classes have been set up for school students from 6th to 10th standard. This should improve their knowledge to successfully pass the public exams and others such as NEET and the 12th-grade exam.
- Intensive coaching will be provided after school hours to improve results in government exams for 10th, 11th, and 12th-grade students.
- Special orientation courses continue to be organized for teachers to improve their skills and provide quality education to students.
- Planning of various revenue generating programmes to support schools in coordination with respective dioceses.
- The Alfredo Cuomo Scholarship programme is being redefined for students conducting research on relevant/common-interest topics.
ROSHAN SUSAIRAJ
Roshan is completing his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at Patrician College of Arts and Science in Chennai. In 2022, he began his third and last year of study. In 2023, he hopes to undertake a prolonged stay in London to enrol in an “intensive” English Language training course.

Roshan’s older sister Jenifer received her master’s in commerce in 2021. She is currently employed by the HDFC Bank in Chennai and is additionally studying remotely to get her MBA with a Human Resources specialisation.

The Cuomo Cardio-Paediatric Centre is unique as the only reference centre of its kind in all West Africa.
The greatest testament to the effectiveness of this structure was the celebration of the one thousandth patient operated on in October 2022. This framework now allows certain partners, whose mission is to care for sick children, to develop a new concept, that of the South-South axis, which allows children from neighbouring countries to be treated without having to be transported to Europe, which is the most humane way of providing humanitarian care.

During a medical humanitarian mission conducted by the Cuomo Foundation in Dakar, Senegal in 2012, Awa Gueye, a young Senegalese girl who was suffering from a severe cardio condition, received direct benefits.
Awa underwent a life-changing surgery to correct rheumatic mitral valve regurgitation, which was performed by Prof. Gilles Dreyfus, internationally renowned cardio surgeon and board member of the Cuomo Foundation. As a result of the successful procedure, Awa was able to return to a normal life and complete her secondary education. Throughout Awa’s school years, the Foundation kept in touch with her and in 2017, they made a commitment to support her undergraduate studies in Applied Biology and Chemical Engineering. Awa successfully completed her degree in 2020, prompting the Foundation to finance her master’s programme at the University of Dakar. In 2021, the Foundation facilitated Awa’s trip to Paris, France, where she underwent further surgery, again performed by Prof. Gilles Dreyfus, to modify her heart and ensure it was compatible with her changing physical condition.
In 2022, Awa successfully applied to the University of Nantes- UFR Sciences and Technology in Western France to study for a bachelor’s degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology. The Foundation continues its funding and support for Awa in her academic ambitions.

Founded in 2013 by the Senegalese artists association Ndar Creations and under the auspices of the Senegalese Ministry of Culture, this annual Saint-Louis cultural exhibition quickly established itself as a major event on the Senegalese art scene.
The Cuomo Foundation has been associated with the event since 2020 and was the principal sponsor of the 8th edition of ‘Les Itineraires Artistique de Saint-Louis 2022’, which was held between 7 May to 10 June,2022. The title and main theme of this year’s exhibition was «Intergenerational Artistic Encounters and Cultural Diversity”, and it included 65 pieces of multidisciplinary artwork, including paintings, sculptures, photographs, drawings, and digital art, created by 35 artists from Senegal, the Gambia, and Mauritania. With 1,625 visitors and several paintings sold, the exhibition was a great success this year. In addition to offering experienced African artists the opportunity to exhibit their works, meet art critics,

The Grand Chancellery is a state institution placed under the authority of the President of the French Republic, who is also the Grand Master of the Legion of Honour.
It carries out three missions related to public service, which are governed by the code of the Legion of Honour.
Napoleon Bonaparte created the Legion of Honour distinction not merely to recognise acts of military valour, but also to thank French or foreign individuals who, in some way, contributed to France’s excellence.
The archives of this decoration represent an invaluable heritage, which is why the project to preserve them, called “Memory of Honour”, will allow history, names, and reasons for which certain individuals were awarded this distinction to be perpetuated for centuries to come.
History cannot be constructed without memory and education cannot be constructed without history.
Therefore, it became evident that to aid education, history needed to be preserved through this elegant and ambitious Memory of Honour project.
A little-known function of the Grand Chancellery of the Legion of Honour is the education of young females in boarding schools, this mission was established in 1805.This programme continues today welcoming over 1,000 students, many of whom are either orphans or come from disadvantaged backgrounds, into the schools of the Legion of Honour in Saint-Denis.
The modernity of this concept, which promoted the education of young girls over 200 yrs. ago, is striking and unfortunately remains a hot topic in many parts of the world today. Therefore, the Foundation has chosen to invest in this outstanding project in the foreseeable future as part of its ongoing support for female educational empowerment.

“Babel: An Initiatory Journey to Save the World” was performed by 140 children on the stages of Nice Opera from June 21 to June 30.
A participatory opera on the challenges of climatic change, it was composed and conducted by Sergio Monterisi and directed by Magali Thomas, who also wrote the libretto.
All the young students were from primary schools in Nice, and they included youngsters with various disabilities.
The production of Babel marks the second time the children have been included in the Nice Opera season, and the Cuomo foundation was pleased to support this exciting project.

The Artimuse is the student body yachting club of Sciences Po, the renowned French university.
The Artimuse is a non-profit organisation that teaches students about sailing through its mythological ‘Sailing Days’. Furthermore, crucially its purpose is to educate students by organising conferences on the marine environment concerns including ocean protection.
Artimuse adds to Sciences Po’s prominence by competing in the EDHEC Sailing Cup, Europe’s premier student sporting event and the world’s largest intercollegiate offshore regatta. This race would not be possible without the assistance of significant corporate relationships.

2022 marked the 31st edition of the International Piano Competition ‘Roma’, organized by the Cultural Association ‘Fryderyk Chopin’ in partnership with the Cuomo Foundation.
The Cuomo Foundation has been the principal sponsor of this Roman cultural event since 2004.
Maestro Marcella Crudeli, the competition’s artistic director and founder, led the awards ceremony with a winners’ concert at Roma Tre University’s Palladium Theatre. Denis Linnik, a 27-year-old pianist of Belarusian ancestry, won the 1st Chopin Prize.
Linnik’s charisma and outstanding interpretation of Chopin’s “Concerto No. 2 in F minor, Op. 21,” backed by the talented conductor Pawel Piotr Gorajski and the Roma Tre Orchestra, greatly impressed the international jury, presided over by Marcella Crudeli, as well as the audience.
The 2nd Chopin prize was awarded to 25-year-old Russian pianist Vsevolod Brigida.
Denis Linnik, the competition’s winner, earned a monetary award as well as the opportunity to record and promote
an album with the record label KNS Classical. The UNESCO Club of Rome also presented him with a gift. In 2023, he will have the opportunity to perform in ten concerts in Italy and globally.
This result represents the culmination of two weeks of work in selecting the best pianists from 91 young participants from 14 countries across three continents (China, Korea, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, Israel, Italy, Norway, Poland, the Czech Republic, Russia, the United States, Switzerland, and Ukraine) who competed in the five sections.

For the fourth consecutive year, the Cuomo Foundation was the official sponsor for the prestigious Premio Roma danza event.
2022 marked the 20th year of the dance competition, which is supported by the municipality of Rome. The event was held from July 8th to July 12th at the majestic National Academy of Dance, which is located on Aventine Hill, one of Rome’s seven hills. After being presented online via the internet for the previous two years due to the pandemic, the “Premio Roma Danza” made its long-awaited return to the Teatro Grande stage.
Over several days, many dancers of different nationalities participated in the two sections offered: choreography and dance video, with three categories: Dance Movie, Dance Published Production, and Smartphone Dance.
The award presentation and the Gala evening, which featured performances by the young and gifted dancers, were sponsored by the Cuomo Foundation and held on July 12th in the open-air Teatro Grande. 450 people attended.
For the second consecutive year, the international competition involved the municipalities of Rome with the “Roma Capitale” prize. The objective of this prize, which is associated with the “Premio Roma Danza”, is to provide young Romans with the opportunity
to tell the story and promote their territory, their neighbourhood, and its peculiarities.
As in previous years, the director Maria Enrica Palmieri carefully selected a renowned international jury. The choreography section was chaired by Shaun Parker, an Australian choreographer, while the dance video section was led by Adriano De Santis, director of the experimental cinematography centre in Rome.
Joining the jury for the choreography section were dance journalist and critic Donatella Bertozzi, visual artist Alfredo Pirri, Tunisian choreographer Nawel Skandrani, and Haitian dancerchoreographer Kettly Noël. Along with jury president Adriano De Santis, jurors for the dance video category were visual arts expert Italo Pesce Delfino and Lebanese filmmaker and videographer Elie Yazbek.

Professor Dr Daniel Cataldo is a renowned specialist surgeon in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic medical procedures who has devoted most of his professional life to humanitarian missions.
Dr Cataldo is a founding member of ‘Operation Sorriso-Servant’ also known as ‘Operation Smile’ created by Professor Jean Marie Servant in 1996. Working in collaboration with Saint Louis Hospital and Médecins du Monde and operating principally at National Niamey Hospital in Niger, the team performed life changing facial reconstructive surgery on infants, children and adults afflicted with Noma disease, birth defects, cancer, and severe facial burns.
In the early 1990s, Mr. and Mrs. Alfredo Cuomo were introduced to Dr. Cataldo and Professor Servant. As private donors, they assisted in financing and raising extra funds to support Operation Servant’s early initial actions. The “Special Luigi Frateschi Support” campaign, which was carried out at the National Hospital of Niamey in Niger and gave “a new smile” to 40 young patients, was sponsored by the Cuomo Foundation in 2010.
In 2014, at a prestigious ceremony held at the Aula Magna, Faculty of Medicine, University of Buenos Aries, the Argentine Medical Association awarded Dr Cataldo, the title “Doctor of the Year“. This outstanding academic honour was international recognition of Dr Cataldo’s ‘commitment to welfare, exemplary vocation, and academic reputation’.
In 2022, to promote Dr Cataldo’s vital work, the Cuomo Foundation agreed to fund the recent global distribution of limited printed special edition copies of Dr Cataldo’s “Facial Reconstructive Surgery” to prestigious medical institutions and universities throughout Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America.

A conservation project proposal by former IPCC Scholarship recipient- Dr Ana Carolina Amarillo.
Ana and her dancing and production partner Guillermo Anastasi travelled throughout Argentina and Brazil in 2022, showcasing Tango through performances and courses involving over 450 participants from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Columbia, Peru, and Venezuela. According to Ana Amarillo’s observations, some experts in the tango industry wish to keep this dance ‘behind closed doors’, in private schools and clubs, while initiatives like this project help return tango back to its roots as a popular dance accessible to all.
“The Argentinian and Uruguayan tradition of the Tango, now familiar around the world, was developed by the urban lower classes in Buenos Aires and Montevideo in the Rio de la Plata basin. Among this mix of European immigrants to the region, descendants of African slaves and the natives of the region known as criollos, a wide range of customs, beliefs and rituals were merged and transformed into a distinctive cultural identity. It is practised in the traditional dance halls of Buenos Aires and Montevideo,
spreading the spirit of its community across the globe even as it adapts to new environments and changing times. Tango is also incorporated into celebrations of national heritage in Argentina and Uruguay, reflecting the widespread embrace of this popular urban music.”

The Cuomo Foundation, through its long-standing partnership with the Dizénidani Association, continued its funding of the DORA decorative mural painting competition.
In 2022, the 7th edition of the annual event took place from 16th to 19th March at the Royal court of Tiébélé; the home of the Kassena people of southern Burkino Faso.
Ever since the 16th century, the Kassena have been decorating the exterior walls of their houses with elaborately painted murals. The painting is done exclusively by the women who pass on the skill to their daughters. Through this event, the elder women pass on their ancestral knowledge and technique to young girls while also helping them prepare for their future social and domestic responsibilities. The primary goal of this Dizénidani Association project is to maintain a long-standing custom that has been passed down through the generations.
Efforts are being made to register the Royal Court of Tiébélé, and its remarkable architecture, as a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Therefore, the continued commitment of all local and international partners is crucial for the project to succeed.

Support for former IPCC Scholarship recipient – Dr Pedro Fernandez.
Since 2013, the Foundation has partnered with the IPCC Scholarship programme to support PhD students from developing countries in their scientific research to understand the risks of climate change and its impact on their local environments and communities.
The Foundation is continuing its commitment by enabling and funding further applied research by a number of those former recipients of the IPCC scholarship programme in their current investigations. Argentine researcher Dr Pedro Fernandez was a beneficiary of the 2019-21 IPCC scholarship awards funded by the Foundation.
In 2022, the Cuomo Foundation agreed to support Dr Fernandez in his new research project to be undertaken at the Humboldt University of Berlin. A funding agreement was signed on March 5th,2022 with the Humboldt University and with the researcher’s home institute, the National Institute of Agricultural Technology in Argentina.

“During the last four months, the project “Sustainable cattle ranching in South America’s tropical dry forests” progressed as planned by Dr Fernandez.
On the one hand, Dr Fernandez leads a systematic review of the cattle ranching in the South American dry diagonal, and a manuscript reviewing knowledge gaps and opportunities to rot them has been started to be written.
On the other hand, mapping efforts to characterize livestock intensification have begun, and training data have been prepared. We started to identify machine learning and deep learning methods to map feedlots and silage bags for the whole Chaco region, and the models will be calibrated by Fernandez and another PhD student together with the lab team. Finally, new networks were built to address the problem in collaborative research together with Alto University (Finland), Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium) and Madison State University (USA). Researchers from these institutions will help carry out the research questions, especially in the Cerrado and Caatinga biomes. In this sense, also local organizations were contacted, particularly
in Bolivia and Paraguay, and will help to the process with field training and validation, data.
In the next three months, Dr Fernandez will complete the mapping efforts for the Dry Chaco and Chiquitania and submit to a peer-reviewed journal the review manuscript. In addition, two research manuscripts will be advanced with key research questions of the problem addressed.”

Support for former IPCC Scholarship recipient - Dr Igor Oliveira Ribeiro.
Brazilian forestry engineer, Dr Igor Olivieira Ribeiro new applied research, entitled “Alerting people to the risks of fire smoke – EducAIR “ commenced in late 2021 and continued throughout 2022.Involving numerous public schools and over 1,000 schoolchildren in Manaus, capital of Amazonas, the NW state in Brazil that is almost entirely covered by the Amazon Rain Forest; the initiative aims to teach and instruct how to monitor air quality degradation caused by Amazon forest fires.

“Since we started the project, we did not imagine that we would have such great resistance from public high schools with the implementation of a University project. The main reasons for this resistance are:
1. the schools are full-time, with no free rooms for us to carry out our workshops;
2. Teachers don’t want a commitment to help us with the operational control and maintenance of air quality sensors in schools;
3. some schools are not fully secure and sensors can be stolen (the school manager does not want to take that risk);
4. School managers can only take action to suspend classes due to air pollution through a formal and official order from the State Department of Health, or the State Department of Education and, mainly, the Civil Defense of the State of Amazonas.
Thus, the EducAIR Project does not have the authority to do this alone (it is illegal).
So, the two schools where we installed the sensors are for scientific and educational purposes only, where we get local support. Since then, we have sought to carry out educational activities in places and programs that we are invited to, such as the indigenous school, the future scientists programme and the CLIMAS project.
The next step was to forge a partnership with the Civil Defense of the State of Amazonas so that this information could be used as a reference for any action to suspend activities and classes in communities and schools in the region during the critical period of the forest fires. With this formal partnership with the Civil Defense, we will reach all public schools and students in the State of Amazonas, that is, around 1.2 million basic education students (data from the Ministry of Education, 2021).
We are currently building an official technical cooperation term between the University and the Civil Defense, to formalize this partnership, with a duration of 24 months. This partnership with the Civil Defense of the state is essential for achieving our goals. This whole process has been a great learning experience for us. At the same time, we will continue working so that the “EducAir” Project is a legacy and continues as a public tool for education and monitoring of air quality over the next few years.”

“Rapid atmospheric warming since the mid-twentieth century has increased temperature-dependent erosion and sediment-transport processes in cold environments, affecting food, energy and water security. In this Review, we summarize landscape changes in cold environments and provide a global inventory of increases in erosion and sediment yield driven by cryosphere degradation. Anthropogenic climate change, deglaciation, and thermokarst disturbances are causing increased sediment mobilization and transport processes in glacierized and periglacierized basins. With continuous cryosphere degradation, sediment transport will continue to increase until reaching a maximum (peak sediment). Thereafter, transport is likely to shift from a temperaturedependent regime toward a rainfalldependent regime roughly between 2100–2200. The timing of the regime shift would be regulated by changes in meltwater, erosive rainfall and landscape erodibility, and complicated by geomorphic feedbacks and connectivity. Further progress in integrating multisource sediment observations, developing physics-
based sediment-transport models, and enhancing interdisciplinary and international scientific collaboration is needed to predict sediment dynamics in a warming world.”

The Cuomo Foundation signed a Letter of Agreement with The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation (FPA2) in 2013 to provide financial support for the IPCC Scholarship Programme. Initially, the Cuomo Foundation agreed to fund 6 of the beneficiaries for the 2013-15 second round of awards. Mr Bheki Maliba from South Africa was one of those Cuomofunded students. In late 2016, he successfully completed his doctorate. The Cuomo Foundation agreed to continue to support and pay Mr Maliba’s MBA studies in 2022. He intends to acquire a farm and use fresh technologies for environmentally friendly agricultural practices in South Africa after finishing a master’s in business management.

In 2016, the Cuomo Foundation held discussions with the director of the Centre for Energy Efficiency Studies and Technological Processes (CEEPROT) at the University of Las Tunas in Cuba. The discussions revolved around the establishment of a facility equipped for renewable energy research, training, and development. Its primary goal being to boost the use of renewable energy sources in the region, particularly those with higher potential such as solar, biomass, wind, and hydraulic.
After several years of negotiations with the Cuban local authorities, an agreement was reached in 2018, and the first order for technical equipment was finalised and funded by the Cuomo Foundation in 2019.
In 2022, the University proposed a new initiative that would allow Cuomo Foundation recommended students interested in renewable energies to participate in a four-week training session at the Renewable Energy Training and Development Centre. These training programmes would be provided free of charge to “trainees”, who would be responsible for their own transportation and lodging during their visit.
