JAIME VARGAS Méxicano, “Ballet Master” del Royal Winnnipeg Ballet. Inició su formación en danza a los 14 años. Su primer debut profesional fue en 1989, con la Compañía Nacional de Danza de México y en 2004 se incorporó al Royal Winnnipeg Ballet como Primer Bailarín. En esta entrevista nos contará parte de su trayectoria como inmigrante en esta ciudad. JAIME VARGAS Mexicano, “Master of Ballet” of the Royal Ballet Winnnipeg. He began his dance training at the age of 14. His first professional debut was in 1989 with the National Dance Company of Mexico and in 2004 he joined the Royal Winnnipeg Ballet as First Dancer. In this interview, he will tell us part of his career as an immigrant in this city. Interview by Bethy Sanchez

¿Jaime después de tu inicio como bailarin, ¿qué te impulsó a dejar tu país?
Surgió la oportunidad de unirme al Royal Winnippeg Ballet, el cual es una companía de gran renombre internacional. Me gustó la idea y contacté con el Director Andre Lewis.Le mandé todo mi material danzario, el cual coincidió con el nivel y estilo que buscaban y..así fue que me ofrecieron la posición de Primer Bailarín y como Canadá es un país que me gustaba mucho, decidí unirme a esta companía y venir a vivir acá.

Jaime, after your beginnings as a dancer, what led you to leave your country?
I was presented with the opportunity to join the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and knowing that this company has great international recognition I liked the idea and got in contact with their Director, Andre Lewis. I sent them all my recent material (videos of my latest performances) and it matched the level and style they were looking for so they offered me a position as a Principal Dancer. I really liked Canada so I decided to join the RWB and move to Canada

¿Cuál fue tu mayor desafío como joven inmigrante desde que saliste de México?

What has been your greatest challenge as a young immigrant since you left Mexico?
He pasado por muchos paises pero solo he vivido en Inglaterra, Australia y ahora Canadá. Los retos fueron diferentes, por ejemplo : Cuando fui a estudiar en Inglaterra no tenía dinero, sabía muy poco inglés y no había sido aceptado en ninguna escuela de danza todavía, asi que fue un gran reto, pero en general creo que el mayor reto en todos los paises fue adaptarme a un sistema y sociedad diferentes, alejado de mi familia y de todo aquello que conocía y que extrañe grandemente (Y aún extraño).
I have been in different countries but I’ve only lived in England, Australia and Canada and the challenges were different in each one of them, as an example, when I went to study in England I didn’t have any money, I didn’t speak the language and I had not been accepted into any dance school yet so it was a great challenge, but in general I feel that the biggest challenge in every country was to adapt to a different society and a different system altogether, away from my Family and from all the things I knew and that I missed enormously (and I still do)
