LEARNING INTENTION Explore what it means to be digital citizens and create a charter of digital rights and responsibilities.

CHAPTER OVERVIEW Digital is defined as taking place online. Citizenship refers to a person who belongs to a community or county who are free to create their own rules. Every online community has a set of rights and responsibilities attached to them. A right is a legal entitlement to do something. Responsibility is a way that you should act in different situations. Digital citizenship includes having rights and responsibilities when using the internet and digital technologies. Digital rights are freedoms that we have when we access the internet and digital responsibilities are duties about the way we behave online. Everyone who uses the internet is part of a digital community and we should all look out for each other online. There are many types of responsibilities and rights when it comes to digital citizenship and sometimes these conflict with each other. In order to be active digital citizens, it is important for teenagers to understand why rules are made and how they are enforced online. 44
