Discuss the features of a digital media text format and replicate them into a different digital media text.

LEARNING OUTCOME

3.3 Re-present a digital media text from one online format to another, e.g. from video to blog.

CHAPTER OVERVIEW

Tone, imagery, relevance to audience, coherence, structure and rhythm are important features of any digital media text. Tone is how a message is communicated. Coherence means ‘logical and consistent’. Structure is how the media is put together. Rhythm is how all the above aspects work with each other.

ACTIVITY 1: EVALUATING DIGITAL TEXTS In pairs, students will examine the links to digital media texts below and evaluate them under the following headings. They will score the texts from 1-5, 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest.

ACTIVITY OVERVIEW

ACTIVITY 2: RE-PRESENTING Students will choose one of the digital texts from activity 1 and re-present it in a different format. Make sure to include all the features of the new format! For example: change the blog to a vlog. ACTIVITY 3: EXPLORATION Students will find an example of a blog, vlog or speech online and represent it in a different format. If they wish to make an animated video, powtoon.com is a free website that guides you through the process.
