When signing up for a new social media account, how much information would you choose to share about yourself? First, look at the two examples of creating an account. In the second example she is providing the necessary details, but is protecting herself by not providing things which she doesn’t need to.

IN PAIRS STUDENTS DISCUSS:
Why using a nickname could protect your privacy? Why translating your surname to Irish could protect your privacy? Why using an email address is more secure than using your phone number? Why changing your birth date and month is safer than using your real birthday? Why using a longer password is more secure than a shorter password?
ACTIVITY 2: INSTASNAP This activity is to demonstrate how personal information can be pieced together by people with bad intentions to find information on their target. Examine the following posts and stories that Nicole Murphy uploaded to a new social networking website Insta-Snap. If you wanted to post similar content, how would you make it more private?

ACTIVITY 3: DOXING Read the following article about a fan that stalked Billie Eilish’s childhood home after finding images online of the singer standing in front of the house. Students will create a podcast discussing how posting images online can compromise a person’s privacy and safety.
