JOSEPHINE KEARNS A New Home Boats in the water, men stepping onto the shore of a new place A new home, strange and exciting, a new start More boats in the water, but these do not carry freedom They carry chains, a future to come of cruelty, labor, and unfairness Other men are soldiers, fighting for freedom, fighting for change But when change comes, we are not united Splitting like a piece of cloth North from south, white from black, men from women A new fight for change, for the right to vote, for a seat on the bus And now, people living and dying in isolation Millions dead from the pandemic, millions affected Businesses shut down, children struggling to learn at home Fires raging from a changing climate Ice melting, plant and animal species never seen again Pollution in the water, in the streets, in the air People in the streets, marching for what they believe in Fighting against police brutality, fighting to be heard, fighting for change The sun will rise again tomorrow Approaching a time with a woman leading the country Voices of different people with different views all heard and considered Working together to create a sustainable future Wind turbines turning, trees growing A healthier planet with a healthier population Possibilities and dreams for all ages, genders, and colors
