Audrey Rock: “As a Country, We Claim to be Indivisible.”

As a Country

As a country we claim to be indivisible. As a country we claim we live lives. As a country we claim that people like you and I are resting with liberty by our sides. As a country we preach, as if justice is a gift handed to all. But sooner than later, I can feel it coming in, at the rate of a wrecking ball. A voice that is deep within us will soon tell me that as a nation, we are just this close to taking a fall.
People like me claim they know what it’s like, to have to fight, and to climb, a constant uphill hike. An uphill hike we call freedom, that’s so given to all. We profess this concept as a nation, within these American walls. Despite all of that, I see through a society that is toppling over; just nearly about to fall.
We let appearance define us, until it’s fully sunken within. Some, but not all say, if your skin is not like the rest of us, your voice must be a sin. In a world still containing segregation, where small baby steps forward are needed, can we please make a change; so many of us have pleaded. Our small section of the globe, known as the home of the brave, feels overwhelmed with riots followed by suffering as well as injustice, and our walls are beginning to cave.
Like a young one just beginning to crawl, we need stability and patience to limit our falls. If we don’t work together, our civil section could soon go up in flames, leaving future ancestors with this crazy structure of our country, and the remembrance of our names. We have rules and expectations written, are they too much to ask? I’m only asking this question because so many citizens treat it as such a huge task. As a country we claim to be indivisible. As a country we claim to live lives. As a country we claim that people like you and I are resting with liberty by our sides.

As a country we preach as if justice is a gift handed to all. So everyone, please live up to the standards, before our nation fully comes to a crumble, and finally falls.
