Everyone’s America

As the eagle sings from a distant shore Its wings bruised and battered The eagle tries to fly and soar Its wings still left tattered.
As the eagle struggles through the air Crying its song of hope Its song falls on ears of despair Their hands tied down in rope.
As a single person rises alone The huddled masses soon follow And as a new voice is shown Their tone changes from one of sorrow.
As the grizzly bear rises from its slumber Its head once again held high It treads now unencumbered As it looks up to the sky.
As the eagle soars in a newfound grace Finding a new perch up above Its song now registers as a case Of one full of hope and love.
As the bear joins the eagle in its song Letting out its mighty roar Their voices ring true and strong And are no longer able to be ignored.
As the crowd now chants from down below Their voices full of rage The people from up above now know That it is time for change.
As everyone’s voices are now being heard Their stories, some from afar Are told as this country’s cure That begins to heal our scars.

And as the Sun rises on a new day Now everyone can say This is my America.
