GRACE BIGELOW-LETH Swirls of Gold Hope Gold swirls and twirls of bittersweet, just beyond the grey horizon. That is where our hopes lie. Keeping the dark thoughts away. They will be achieved someday. Each of us with our own journey. Here is where our paths meet. I dream of traveling to New York City. Seeing buildings wrapped in snow blankets of warmth, families gathered around fires, catching snowflakes on my tongue. Like footsteps, our journeys will cross. In our reunions, we combine our own knowledge with that of others. Alone, an award winning scientist at NASA will not fix the environment. Alone, the girl in the seat next to you on the bus will not cure world hunger. Alone, the cashier at Safeway will not make the United States equal for everyone. Together, these people could change our world. There are many strengths of the United States. We are educators, learners, pioneers, dreamers. Flaws occupy our population as well. They may be overlooked, but remain just as influential. A storm known to all as Climate Change brings clouds to cover our beautiful horizon. Like Hurricane Katrina, Climate Change brings with it darkness and demise.
