IB2 Visual Arts Final Exhibition
How exciting to see the first IB Visual Arts Exhibition held in the purpose-built Arts area Chezza Urezza. Parents, teachers and students, were invited to a private viewing of “Leuer de Peur” in April 2021 to celebrate the completion of their course. All Visual Arts students had to complete a curated exhibition as part of the IB course requirements (40% final grade). After such an unusual year, it was a fantastic opportunity to gather and celebrate our students' achievements.
“It was such a beautiful experience to watch the students confidently discussing their work with parents, students and staff. Guided tours were also given to each family by our students, demonstrating their curatorial expertise to our guests. A real proud moment.
All five students have created excellent thought-provoking work covering a range of subjects such as Shattered Youth, Existential Void, Trapped, Taboo and Faith. All Exhibitions began with a personal response to internal and external stimulus, which forged the foundations of a journey of discovery each student has taken. Not only have they developed their technical skills in this discipline, but they have also gained a deep contextual understanding of the world around them. Clara has produced an outstanding exhibition investigating the theme “Trapped”, inspired by the present changing times. Maceo produced a colour explosion, loosely veiling the internal mind of today’s generation. Maximilian’s topic of choice was “Existential Void” exploring psychological and philosophical theory. Natalia confronted the audience with her bold and brash subject of “Taboo” hosting uncomfortable conversations about religion and sexuality to name a few. Last, but not least Leonardo led us into a temple of contemplation through his exhibition “Faith”. A sensitive selection of works looking at the different perspectives of people, places and objects.
As the students also prepare their process portfolios ready for IB submission, it has been great to reflect on the projects they have been involved in such as theatre productions and working with artists in residence. This has allowed students to gain a greater understanding of career paths that are available in the creative industry and how they can apply their skills in the real world.
