Community Weekends

Despite the pandemic and the restrictions on activities and gatherings, we can look back on a number of very successful community weekends, which following our school values, aim to bring students and staff closer together, through a diverse, inspiring and memorable activity programme.

Most recently, the graduating students from M6 and IB2 classes were able to dress up elegantly again to attend their last formal dinner in our beautiful New Dining Hall. Staff and students enjoyed a fine meal, grateful to be able to celebrate, despite the safe distancing in the arranged seating plan, a very special year and their time at the Lyceum. The House and Colour Captains’ leadership skills and enthusiasm deserve a mention, once again, since they organized an American Football tournament for all year groups, which marked the end of their captainship with the right combination of competitiveness and entertainment. Earlier in the year, the traditional House Colours team competed against each other on the ice-rink, with Teutonia winning the much awaited ice-hockey match.

The students have made the most of the long Engadin winter taking part in a variety of activities ranging from skiing on the slopes of Zuoz and Corviglia to sledging in Bergün, from iceskating on the lake of St Moritz to snowshoeing in the school surrounding areas. Indoors, this year, the Sports Hall has seen a lot of activity as Friday night Housematches have been more popular than usual, with badminton and volleyball being the sports preferred by our boarders.

To balance the sport element of our community weekend, we have offered a cultural trip to Zürich to the ‘Women’s Rights’ exhibition at the Landesmuseum, as well as a private tour around Cardenas and Tschudi Gallery in Zuoz. Some students celebrated Chinese New Year with a traditional dumpling making session, as well taking part in some drama workshops in the Zuoz Globe.

We have been impressed with the students’ willingness to both participate and to lead, in various extent, over the course of this year’s community weekend programme. We are looking forward to the final four weekends, where we will make the most of our outdoor sports facilities, as well strengthening our community through memorable experiences provided by hiking Piz Uter or Arpiglia, camping out, sailing and white-water river rafting in the Lower Engadine. Summer, we are ready for you!

Erica Bruni and Fabien Hanique Head and Deputy Head of Boarding
