PATRICK AMIOT Patrick Amiot's sculptures reflect an acute observation and sense of humour of daily life. His work in ceramic, mixed media and recycled material touches on a wide range of subject matter often stemming from iconic Canadiana. Always comical, his depictions of hockey legends, musicians, fishermen and anthropomorphic animals make up his common characters often set against the backdrop of bustling streets and quirky shop interiors. Born in Montreal, Quebec in 1959, Patrick Amiot is a Canadian sculptor living and working in California. Exhibiting since the 1980s, Amiot is an urban folk art sculptor whose work links the Quebec 19th and early 20th century genre tradition to a contemporary pop/folk statement. Amiot’s sculptures can be found in public and private collections and he has received numerous commissions throughout his career, including the British Columbia Pavilion, Expo 86, Vancouver, the Winnipeg Jets 1993, Standard Broadcasting, Toronto, in 1995 and the Sonoma County Museum, Sonoma, CA in 2004, just to name a few. In 2016 Amiot unveiled “The Pride of Canada Carousel”, a 50-foot, one-ofa-kind carousel featuring 44 rideable sculptures in Downtown Markham.

Leon Belsky Leon Belsky is a still life painter who uses fruit, flowers, metallic surfaces and fabrics to create extraordinary works. By setting these subjects against dramatically lit backgrounds, he creates paintings that vibrate with subtle rhythms, transcending the traditional notion of realist painting. Belsky's technical skill is evident through his exploration of material, arrangement and pattern. Born in the Ukraine in 1947, Leon Belsky trained in the classical tradition at the Moscow College of Fine Art and received his Master’s degree from the internationally renowned Moscow Surikov Academy of Fine Art. In 1992 the artist moved to Toronto, where he has consistently produced a new order of still life paintings. A member of the Ontario Society of Artists (OSA), Belsky’s works are collected widely and are included in the Permanent Art Collection of the Government of Ontario.

Ron Bolt Ron Bolt is one of the leading landscape painters in Canada. Combining a conceptual approach with superior technical ability, Bolt's work transforms the Canadian landscape into an other-worldly plain. In his early years, the artist was profoundly influenced by abstraction and adopted a minimal approach to his subject matter. Gradually with a return to oil, a change occurred in his work which led to complex compositions of rich colour and expressive brushwork. Bolt has continued the powerful tradition of landscape painting in Canada with a focus on the coastal and river waterways that fascinate him, a wilderness that he describes as "sacred". Ron Bolt was born in Toronto, Ontario in 1938. A member of the Arts and Letters Club and former President of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (RCA), Bolt’s career has spanned over fifty years and includes more than 70 solo exhibitions from coast to coast. He was awarded the Canada 125 Medal in 1992, the Queen’s Jubilee Medal in 2002, the RCA’s Centennial Medallion in 2005 and in 2012, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. Ron Bolt has been described as a quintessential "Northern Romantic" painter.

Gerard Burns One of Scotland’s most respected contemporary artists, Gerard Burn's passion for drawing and painting goes back to his childhood roots. Working with a bold palette and on a large scale his canvases still manage to convey an almost domestic intimacy. Although we are presented with an image that could be described as representational, even photographic, each of the various pictorial elements contains a deeper symbolic meaning; they are intended to provoke an emotional response, a sense of place, and perhaps the feeling that we have been here before. Born in Glasgow in 1961, Burns graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1983 with a degree in Fine Art. His paintings, most noted for their modern day translations of traditional themes have been collected throughout UK, Canada, Europe and the USA. In 2016 his portraits of Former First Minister Alex Salmond and author Denise Mina were entered into the permanent collection at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, and his portrait of politician Margo McDonald was installed permanently in the Scottish Parliament.

Craig's painterly style and expressive colouration ignite a desire to live with his work. Philip Craig was born in Ottawa, Ontario in 1951. Graduating from the Sheridan College of Art and Design in 1971, Craig's continual search for new subject matter pushed him to travel widely. As a highly versatile artist, Craig allows his audience to experience many places across Europe and abroad through the unique properties of light and palette. The artist has exhibited extensively in Canada since the early 1980s and can be found in collections around the world.

Michael Forster Michael Forster arrived in Canada from England in 1928 upon completion of his studies at the London Central School of Arts and Crafts and classes at the Academie Colarossi, in Paris. For more than 60 years, he played a prominent role in Canadian art exhibiting with major art societies initially as an early surrealist in the 1930s, a Canadian War artist in the 1940s and subsequently as an abstract painter. Forster lived through a century full of discovery and adventure that concluded with man's exploration of outer space. As an artist, he took inspiration from the glowing patterns and chromatic depths of space, composing varied and rich abstract compositions influenced by the flux and fusion of the galaxies. In 1960, Forster was honoured with a solo exhibition of 80 works by Mexico's Museo Nacional de Arte Moderno as well as major retrospectives in Luxembourg and Canada. Forster's paintings have been exhibited in major museums including the National Gallery, Washington, Musee d'art Moderne, Paris, the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, the British Museum, the Sao Paulo Museum, Brazil and the National Gallery of Canada.

John Hall John Hall was born in Edmonton, Alberta in 1943. After studying at the Alberta College of Art from 1960 to 1965, he moved to Mexico where he continued his learning at the Instituto Allende, from 1965-66. Hall has held teaching positions in art at Ohio Wesleyan University, the Alberta College of Art and Design, the University of Calgary, and the Okanagan University. Notable among Hall’s long list of exhibitions was the 1979-80 solo exhibition at the National Gallery of Canada and a major retrospective exhibition at Mexico City's Museo de Arte Moderno in 1994. In 2016 the Kelowna Art Gallery opened "Travelling Light - a forty-five year survey of paintings". In 2017, The exhibition traveled to the Nickle Galleries at the University of Calgary. The artist rose to national prominence during the 1970s with his large hyper-realist still life paintings of common objects. Today, Hall continues to focus on recording the appearance of familiar objects, materials, surface and colour. Likened to an urban archaeologist, he produces paintings that mine the rich complexity of contemporary urban life. Hall is represented in many important public collections including the National Gallery of Canada, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, and the Art Gallery of Alberta. Ciba Karisik Ciba Karisik was born in Sarajevo in 1959. As a grandson of two artists, he revealed his creative inheritance at an early age. Invited to attend the Sarajevo Academy of Fine Art, Karisik completed his Bachelor and then his Master’s degrees in painting in 1985. Already an established artist, the subsequent war in the early 1990s played havoc with this artist's life, forcing him to eventually abandon his homeland to immigrate with his family to Canada. For Karisik, his world of painting reflects a philosophy characterized by a profound appreciation for the simple things life has to offer. Objects, interiors, and landscapes are recreated in detail sustained by a quiet mood of reflection. Often using a well trained ability in the trompe l'oeil technique, the artist sharpens his images to increase the tension of memory. Since 1996, Karisik has produced a steady body of work exhibiting in solo and group exhibitions every year. His paintings have been collected in Canada, the USA, England and Europe.

Barry McCarthy A professional artist for the past four decades, Barry McCarthy has produced a unique body of paintings reflecting his personal passion for Canada and follows a solid tradition of representational painting. In the beginning he developed an outstanding watercolour technique to convey soft, impressionistic light. In his current work, McCarthy has turned to oil painting where he has been able to adopt and refine the light and transparency that make his watercolours so memorable. McCarthy’s work transforms the common object, ordinary person, or familiar landscape with colour, light, and texture to engage the viewer. We recognize the subject, but more than viewing it, we experience the moment in time that impels the viewer’s mind to thoughts of human history. Barry McCarthy was born in Deep River, Ontario in 1951 and received his BFA Honours degree at the University of Guelph in 1975. Notably, recent public gallery solo exhibitions at the Burlington Art Centre and Wellington County Museum in Ontario have showcased McCarthy's body of work.

Bogdan Molea The art of Bogdan Molea is a statement of technical ability and the concept of beauty in contemporary artistic creation. Molea is devoted to the technical and cultural aspects of artistic expression and is inspired by 14th century Byzantine art and the Italian Renaissance. The artist's use of dramatic shapes in his object oriented work, creates drama and tension in his paintings. Bogdan Molea was born in Romania in 1958. Molea completed his university studies at the Nicolae Grigorescu Institute of Fine Arts in Bucharest in 1984 graduating with majors in Monumental Art, Conservation-Restoration and Art Instruction. He lives and works in Toronto, Ontario.

Valerie Palmer Valerie Palmer was born in Toronto, Ontario and received a BFA Honours degree from the University of Manitoba in 1973, where she studied under Ivan Eyre, one of Canada’s renowned artists. Leaving both Toronto and Winnipeg after her studies, Palmer headed north to the far shore of Lake Superior. Recognising a profound love of the wilderness fostered by summers in her youth, she created a home and embraced the inspiration that has informed her paintings for more than 35 years. Palmer is a strong figurative painter but she is also a committed landscape painter. What is unique in the artist's work is the singular relationship of the figure to the land. The order and quiet drama of her compositions establishes a narrative connecting the viewer to their own world and to the artist’s. Palmer paints directly from local models and by taking her large canvases outside, works directly from nature. A clarity of realization, a completely personal interpretation and excellent craftsmanship characterize all her paintings. In 2000, Palmer's work was brought to the attention of the public with a catalogue and exhibition that travelled to four public galleries in Ontario. She is represented in special private collections, corporate collections and public galleries.

Jacques Payette Jacques Payette paints the world around him with a gentle vision that has evolved into a deeply personal and identifiable style. Payette uses the ancient encaustic medium to paint portraits of his family members, landscapes, and still life objects. Encaustic painting is the application of hot beeswax mixed with coloured pigments to a surface, resulting in subjects formed in rich layers of transparent colour. The mood in his compositions is quiet and dreamy and often involves vintage fabrics and materials. Jacques Payette was born in Montreal, Quebec in 1951. Payette is a self-taught artist; he began exhibiting in Montreal in the early 1970s and throughout Canada in subsequent years.

Peter Sawatzky Peter Sawatzky is a remarkably energetic and prolific artist who thrives on challenges. His passion for wildlife and the natural environment has been an inspiration for decades. Sawatzky's subject matter has developed to incorporate a range of North American birds and animals and most recently, a trip to Africa catalyzed the creation of species new to the artist's body of work. Sawatzky sculpts in all scales; his latest public commission "Seal River Crossing" was installed at Portage Avenue and Main Street in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It is a twenty-nine foot long heroic bronze of eleven caribou crossing a river. Born in southern Manitoba in 1951, Peter Sawatzky grew up on his family's farm in the Mennonite village of Sommerfeld. As a winner of countless awards and numerous commissions in both Canada and the USA, Sawatzky has achieved a unique status in Canada's sculpture tradition.

David Thauberger David Thauberger, born in Holdfast, Saskatchewan in 1948 is well known across Canada for his paintings of vernacular architecture and cultural icons. These works of popular culture and postcard images involve an articulate debate on art, culture, and how we view our world. His paintings transcend regionalism while still capturing the heart of what it means to be from Saskatchewan.

P.38

Studying ceramics at the University of Saskatchewan, Regina Campus, Thauberger earned his BA in 1971, and his MA in 1972 from California State University (Sacramento). These studies during the early 1970s helped to inspire him to create art that was rooted in his own life experience and his own geographical location. David Thauberger is represented by major museums throughout our country including the National Gallery of Canada, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and the Burnaby Art Gallery. A member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (RCA) Thauberger has been widely recognized for his achievements. In 2008 Thauberger was invested as a Member of the Order of Canada, he was a recipient of the Lieutenant Governor’s Saskatchewan Artist Award in 2009 and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012. Thauberger was awarded the Saskatchewan Order of Merit in 2012 and in 2017 he received a Canada 150 Award. In 2015 a major retrospective and exhibition of Thauberger’s artwork titled “Road Trips & Other Diversions” was organized by the Mendel Art Gallery, subsequently traveled across Canada.

Les Thomas Les Thomas was born in British Colombia, and has spent the majority of his life in Western Canada. He studied painting, sculpture and printmaking at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, and received his BFA in 1990. Concentrating on painting, he spent a year enrolled in the MFA program at the Slade School of Fine art, University College London, England, and in 1998 completed his MFA degree at the University of Calgary. Thomas’s paintings are readily recognizable, most often depicting a single animal form centrally located on a square format. Over time Thomas’s interests have grown to include many concepts of contemporary painting. Central to his artistic aspirations are that his paintings be inimitable, and appreciated as something uniquely Canadian. Currently his artwork might best be described as a hybrid of Realism and Pop art. Works by Les Thomas are held in many public, corporate and private collections in Canada, the USA, and abroad.

W. David Ward Born in West Yorkshire, England, W. David Ward immigrated to Canada in 1977. He studied Graphic Design at George Brown College, then embarked on a career in commercial art. He freelanced as a designer and created book cover illustrations for a number of major publishing companies, among them, Penguin and Viking Press. Despite early successes, Ward left the world of commercial art behind in October 1988, when he moved to the artist colony of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, to concentrate on his own art full-time. The artist's thirty year career has been shaped by his extensive travels. He is known primarily for painting the more remote corners of North America—from the windswept coastline of British Columbia to maritime outposts in the east, the American Southwest and Canadian Arctic. In 2012, the Royal Canadian Mint selected one of Ward’s Arctic landscape designs for a limited series of one kilogram, gold and silver, investment coins. These are the latest in a collection of large format coins, which include 'The Spirit of Haida Gwaii,' by Bill Reid. Although Ward’s paintings depict a wide range of subjects, the Arctic has been a major theme since 1990. His work can be found in numerous private, corporate and public collections, including The Gail Art Museum, Seoul South Korea, The Vancouver Maritime Museum, The Provincial Art Gallery in St. John's Newfoundland, The Manx National Gallery and the Government of Ontario. Phil Abernethy Phil Abernethy was born in England to a family of clockmakers. After emigrating to Canada in 1976, he apprenticed to his father and became a journeyman clockmaker in 1988. After decades in the domestic and public clock field, their company, Abernethy & Son, has become widely regarded as masters of their craft in Canada and abroad. Drawing on his broad experience, Abernethy has pursued sculptural clockmaking, creating machines based on historic and obscure devices spread over the history of the craft. Abernethy works from his studio in Victoria, British Columbia. Being exposed to countless historic devices and systems as a clock restorer over several decades, combined with a lifelong interest in art, it seems natural for Abernethy to explore the potential of clockwork as art.

DP Brown DP Brown is one of Canada's foremost painters working in the egg-tempera medium. The subject matter in his work ranges from portraiture and landscape to architecture, often featuring European imagery. This exacting medium restricts Brown to a small number of works per year. Thus, each piece is a testament to his remarkably distinctive style and focus as an artist. D.P. Brown was born in Forestville, Ontario in 1939. Brown's love of drawing began early, accompanying Alexander Young (A.Y.) Jackson and Frederick Horsman (F.H.) Varley on sketching trips around Georgian Bay. He studied at Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick where he trained under Alex Colville, completing his BFA in 1961. By the late 1970s, a catalogued exhibition at Fischer Fine Art in London, England confirmed his status as one of the new leading high realist painters in Canada.

Rebecca Campbell Rebecca Campbell was born in Stamford, UK, and grew up in Ireland, where as a child she was surrounded by gardens and animals. Her training as an illustrator at the City and Guilds of London Art School has influenced her strong sense of design and a unique narrative style of work. Her delightful, enigmatic and highly imaginative paintings evoke a world of plants and animals that appear to be happily confined within the boundaries of their own contented universe. A vivid sense of design that instantly captures the eye results in paintings that project immense appeal. Alongside her painting, over the course of her career Campbell has also been commissioned to paint numerous murals for hospitals, restaurants and private homes.

Patrick Douglass Cox Painting with remarkable precision and detail, Patrick Douglass Cox has established a reputation as a high realist. This style suggests literal representation, yet is markedly interpretive. Working from a foundational concept, Cox does not hesitate to manipulate the elements of composition until only the essential details, shaped to his purpose, remain. In human subjects Cox looks not for shallow charm or glamour, but for depth and uniqueness of character. Capturing and intensifying a select moment, his paintings seem to strip away the noise and busyness of life, leaving only the still essence of something humanly significant. The artist’s ability to find the extraordinary in an ordinary scene makes his paintings compelling. Cox attended the Alberta College of Art, Calgary, and graduated in 1976 with a degree in Visual Communications. Diana Dean Diana Dean's art is epic in subject matter, composition, scale and historical parallels. Dean's work is largely figurative and self-referential, reflecting relationships during the passage of time: birth, marriage, children and death. The struggles and issues of life expressed by the artist are transformed to the universal. Paintings characterized by spiritual themes, home life and family, all set within a timeless period, comprise her powerful body of work. Diana Dean was born in Rhodesia (present day Zimbabwe) in 1942. She received her training at the prestigious Bath Academy of Art from 1961 to 1964, where she was awarded a Diploma in Art and Education with distinction in sculpture. Dean has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions across Canada since 1975.

Tyson Grumm Tyson Grumm's paintings invite us into a nostalgic world of imaginative subject matter, where a world between the past and the future can be derived from characters located within fantastic surroundings. Grumm fuses historical references, quirky animals and misty landscapes to develop a folkloric approach to the figurative tradition. Grumm reveals a story that is only partially told, enabling each viewer to contribute his or her own imagined view towards the interpretation of each work. In his art, Grumm creates whimsical and surrealistic stages by using text within multifarious scenes. Tyson Grumm was born in Newcastle, Wyoming in 1972. Grumm studied at Southern Oregon University and received his BFA in 1996. The artist exhibits regularly in the USA, London and Canada and his works can be found in many private and public collections in Canada, Europe and the USA.

John Hansen John Hansen is a respected figurative painter whose sound craftsmanship, applied to a theoretically grounded method, expresses his reflections on life. Initially working from his imagination, Hansen finds his direction and then gathers reference materials by using a camera to record the figure or item, by documenting measurements along with small, detailed sketches. He then sets to work in his preferred medium of oil, to create his realist, introspective paintings. John Hansen was born in Edmonton, Alberta in 1957. In 1980 he graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design. A year spent in Florence studying art combined with scholarships in 1979 and 1988, made early note of his talent.

Keith Harder Keith Harder has built his studio career in the disciplines of painting and drawing. Over the span of his career, he has investigated a diversity of expressive agendas, from perceptual contingencies, narrative, and process to form and structure. He has employed a range of subject-matter including the genres of landscape, portraits, still life, the figure, and interior spaces. He uses a descriptive approach to winkle out the significance resonant in visual experiences. He investigates, interprets and improvises on what he finds. Rooted in painting practice, this body of work has diversified into drawing, digital imaging, sculpture and land art installation. In all cases the form taken by these art works has been decided pragmatically, driven by some need for expression.

Brian Jones Brian Jones was born in 1950 in Chatham, Ontario. Upon completing his training at H.B. Beal Technical School in London, Ontario and a brief apprenticeship with Jack Chambers, Jones was determined to pursue painting full time. From the beginning, his work depicted people during moments in their everyday lives. His strong narrative quality touched with subtle humour or charged with energy links the artist and the viewer to common experiences of life in Canada during the 1950s and 1960s. Initially, a skillful photorealist, Jones gradually learned that by adding curved lines, streamlining figures, using brighter colours and simplifying his shapes, Jones developed what is called his “Neighbours” style. From 1975 to 2006, Jones produced a solo exhibition every eighteen months in Toronto. He won many grants and awards, including the Queen's Silver Jubilee award in 1977, Ontario Society of Artists Best Oil Award, 1985, and the “Young Achievers” National Award, 1982. The artist is represented in many major public collections and in corporate and private Collections throughout Canada, the USA and Europe.

Tony Luciani Tony Luciani's work can be defined as interpretive realism. Rather than paint a photorealistic likeness, Luciani paints the feeling he gets from a mental visualization of an object. Mood and emotion are more important than the actual subject matter. Luciani often uses multiples as subjects; piles of tires, stacks of chairs, or figures grouped in a singular hug. All preparatory drawings are done on location, then worked to a larger scale in the studio, where details are eliminated or elaborated in order to convey the artist's intent. Tony Luciani was born in Toronto, Ontario in 1956. He received his BFA from the Ontario College of Art in 1978 and continued his studies in Florence, Italy. There, the artist attained his post-graduate degree in art. Luciani was awarded the George A. Reid Scholarship and was a three-time Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant recipient. He began painting full time upon graduation and has exhibited consistently since 1978.

Nadine Lundahl Nadine Lundahl was born in Antwerp, Belgium in 1958, where she studied at the Royal Academy of Arts. As a student, Lundahl trained in the art of still life painting while studying the techniques of the 17th century Flemish and Dutch artists who first established the genre the area is known for. From an early age, Lundahl was exposed to painting and rare objets d’art, owing to her father’s profession as an antiques dealer and her lineage as a descendant of the wellknown Finnish artist Amelie Lundahl. Working in a relatively small scale, Lundahl develops her subject matter using traditional oil painting techniques, working on specially prepared panels. She is careful to select objects that relate together in form, texture and colour to display a sensual arrangement of contrasting surfaces. Lundahl's compositions reflect a stillness that is juxtaposed to the momentum of modern life. The artist lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium and has exhibited in England, Finland, Portugal, Norway and Canada.

John McKee John McKee is a consummate landscape painter whose subject matter touches on all of Western Canada's strengths. McKee interprets the geography of Alberta and British Columbia with focused vision; his paintings depict vast prairies, the Foothills of Alberta, the Rocky Mountains and the West Coast. In order to capture the staggering panorama of western space in all its seasons, McKee developed a technique of richly shadowed transparencies and detailed expressive brushwork. McKee has exhibited extensively in Canada since the 1970s. John McKee was born in Sudbury, Ontario in 1941. Upon completion of his BFA at the University of Alberta, McKee pursued graduate work in Arizona where he received his MFA in 1969. Returning to Calgary in the later 1970s, McKee began to paint and exhibit full time. He now lives and works in Creston, British Columbia.

Leo Mol Leo Mol was born in the Ukrainian village of Polonne in 1915. His formal art education was at the Leningrad Academy of Arts. After living in Berlin and the Netherlands Mol moved to Canada in 1948, creating a new life for himself and his wife Margareth. His highly crafted figurines of Ukrainian themes, religious imagery and wildlife became popular along with his diverse expressions in stone and marble, painted landscapes and stained glass. It is through his classic portrait sculpture that the artist achieved international reputation. Understanding and portraying the essence of his subject led to major commissioned portraits of Queen Elizabeth II, Pope John Paul II, Sir Winston Churchill and Dwight D. Eisenhower. Mol was a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts and in 1989 became an Officer of the Order of Canada. He was made an honorary academician of the Canadian Portrait Academy in 2000 and received the Order of Manitoba the same year. The Leo Mol Sculpture Garden was established in Winnipeg in 1992 at Assiniboine Park. Louis de Niverville Louis de Niverville was born in 1933 in Andover, England to Canadian parents. As a self-taught artist, de Niverville began painting and working in painted collage in 1965. He would continue to work in both mediums until 1981 when painted collage became his principal medium. The turning point in his work was in 1966-67 when he painted a mural for Expo Theatre in Montréal. Throughout his career de Niverville received multiple commissions including two murals for Toronto International Airport, 1963, one for the atrium of The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, 1993, and one for the Toronto Transit Commission titled Morning Glory, 1978, located at the Spadina subway station. Nick Rooney Nick Rooney obtained his MA in Painting from the University of the Arts London, at the Camberwell College of Arts in London, England. Much of his early career was spent focusing on the craft of oil painting developing a contemporary art practice deeply rooted in art history. His current studio work and research now look at the relationship between the reductive formalism of geometric minimalism and the complexity of classical realism. He has had the opportunity to teach workshops on historical drawing and painting techniques and the making of oil paint to a wide range of students. Nick Rooney has taken part in exhibitions both locally as well as internationally, most recently being selected to participate in the Saatchi Gallery’s exhibition “London Grads Now”. He is currently based in Calgary, Alberta where he teaches foundation studies at the Visual College of Art and Design.

Roberto Rosenman Roberto Rosenman was born in Venezuela and moved to Canada at an early age. Primarily a self-taught artist, he studied drawing and painting at the Ontario College of Art & Design for a year and painting at Grand Central Academy in New York. In addition, he pursued studies in literature at York University. Rosenman switches between still life and portraiture, always incorporating strong symbolism and narrative in his work. He lives in Toronto and teaches drawing and painting at George Brown College. "In my work, the technical aspect of realism is inextricably linked to my choice of subject matter in that it is meant to force the viewer to look beyond the objective and material world. I choose to depict everyday objects that are stripped of personal or emotional association and not normally worthy of regard. It is through the overloading of the insignificant with significance that the magical and metaphysical qualities of everyday object are revealed." - Roberto Rosenman

Carol Stewart Carol Stewart uses gardens, flowers and tablescapes with fruit and glass to paint the fabric of her artistic vision. Stewart paints from life, channeling the changes in light and colour over time with the spirit of place in her work. She embraces the full spectrum of colour in her paintings while observing the sudden play of light on a surface and the subsequent patterns that result. An avid gardener, Stewart’s expression of life is vibrant and passionate. “I search for the place in painting that exists between the representational and the abstract. This is where the spirit of the painting lies. It is the place that takes the viewer away and allows for repeated visual explorations.”- Carol Stewart Carol Stewart was born in southern Ontario in 1959 and grew up in Kingston and Montréal. She completed her BFA at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario in 1981 and in 2010 completed her MFA at Fontbonne University in St. Louis, Missouri. Stewart's works can be found in private and corporate collections in Canada, the USA and the UK. In 2008, she won the Honors Award at Art St. Louis, and has studied with some of the leading painters in the United States.
