John Hansen
John Hansen is a respected figurative painter whose sound craftsmanship, applied to a theoretically grounded method, expresses his reflections on life. Initially working from his imagination, Hansen finds his direction and then gathers reference materials by using a camera to record the figure or item, by documenting measurements along with small, detailed sketches. He then sets to work in his preferred medium of oil, to create his realist, introspective paintings.
John Hansen was born in Edmonton, Alberta in 1957. In 1980 he graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design. A year spent in Florence studying art combined with scholarships in 1979 and 1988, made early note of his talent.
