LEON BELSkY
Leon Belsky is a still life painter who uses fruit, flowers, metallic surfaces and fabrics to create extraordinary works. By setting these subjects against dramatically lit backgrounds, he creates paintings that vibrate with subtle rhythms, transcending the traditional notion of realist painting. Belsky's technical skill is evident through his exploration of material, arrangement and pattern.
Born in the Ukraine in 1947, Leon Belsky trained in the classical tradition at the Moscow College of Fine Art and received his Master’s degree from the internationally renowned Moscow Surikov Academy of Fine Art. In 1992 the artist moved to Toronto, where he has consistently produced a new order of still life paintings. A member of the Ontario Society of Artists (OSA), Belsky’s works are collected widely and are included in the Permanent Art Collection of the Government of Ontario.
