John McKee
John McKee is a consummate landscape painter whose subject matter touches on all of Western Canada's strengths. McKee interprets the geography of Alberta and British Columbia with focused vision; his paintings depict vast prairies, the Foothills of Alberta, the Rocky Mountains and the West Coast. In order to capture the staggering panorama of western space in all its seasons, McKee developed a technique of richly shadowed transparencies and detailed expressive brushwork. McKee has exhibited extensively in Canada since the 1970s.
John McKee was born in Sudbury, Ontario in 1941. Upon completion of his BFA at the University of Alberta, McKee pursued graduate work in Arizona where he received his MFA in 1969. Returning to Calgary in the later 1970s, McKee began to paint and exhibit full time. He now lives and works in Creston, British Columbia.
