Laser welding
On this vehicle, some sections of the roof and body are welded by laser. With laser welding, a high-energy beam of light is directed over the seam to be welded by optical lenses or optical fibre. During the welding process, the upper panel is melted onto the partially molten lower panel, creating a welded joint without the need of additional material. For repairs other than roof repairs, the laser weld seam is re‐ placed by an SG plug weld seam or RP spot weld seam.
