Colin M. Myers
’07 Although Colin Myers’ job title at Claflin University is web communications manager, he is also called on to photograph historical events or provide graphic designs for brochures, flyers, and social media. Myers, who joined Claflin's Office of Communications and Marketing in July 2017, earned a degree in studio art and digital design at his Alma Mater. His designs and photographs have captured the vibrancy, excitement, and “Claflin Confidence” inspired by the “Elevation and Transformation” taking place at University. During his formative years at Lakewood High School in Sumter, S.C., Myers' talents attracted the attention of another Sumter resident and Claflin alumnus, the late Dr. Ernest A. Finney Jr., the first African American Supreme Court Justice appointed to the South Carolina Supreme Court since the Reconstruction Era. After graduating from Lakewood, Myers chose Claflin University to continue the pursuit of his artistic ambitions. As a student, he received
several awards and honors, and one of his paintings won a United Negro College Fund (UNCF) poster competition. When Myers' interest in photography intensified, he used his academic training, creative instincts, and critical insight to become one of the Midlands South Carolina's most respected photographers. Those same attributes—in addition to his vast knowledge of various multimedia technologies—have earned Myers a growing reputation as a graphic designer. Myers’ photography, editing, and designs have appeared in prominent virtual magazines such as MOOD magazine, and Embrace magazine where he showcased editorials and honed his retouching skills for celebrities like actor/singer/songwriter Eric Benet and R&B singer/songwriter Keri Hilson. Myers is an active member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated and is the advisor for the Gamma Nu Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated at Claflin University.
