Outstanding Leaders Under 40 Matthew Victor Melvin

Matthew Victor Melvin was born on October 24, 1995, in Florence, S.C., and is the second of four children born to Reverend Michael and Doris Melvin. He received his education in the Florence County Schools and graduated from West Florence High School.

Melvin earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Education in 2018 at Claflin University. At Claflin, he was an active member of the Student Government Association. He was also an orientation leader, student ambassador, and the Director of the DREAM Gospel Choir from 20172022.

Melvin has a strong passion for the well-being of children and families, leading him to his professional career in Child and Family Service. He started as a case manager with the South Carolina Department of Social Services. His dedication and commitment to the field were quickly recognized. Melvin has received various awards and promotions as a child welfare supervisor, program coordinator, and project manager.

Melvin resides in St. Louis, Mo., and serves as a child welfare consultant with the Change & Innovation Agency. He provides guidance, process planning, and operational oversight to state child services divisions. Matthew is an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and serves in his local church.
