Outstanding Leaders Under 40 Dr. Shalonda Oliver
Dr. Shalonda Oliver, a native of Orangeburg, South Carolina, graduated with honors from Claflin University in 2005, majoring in biology with a minor in chemistry. After graduating, she embarked on a career in education, initially as a 6th-grade science teacher. However, her passion for the medical field led her to nursing.
Oliver's dedication to lifelong learning is exemplified through her five degrees. She also has a master's in education, a bachelor's in nursing, a master's in nursing informatics, and a Doctorate of Nursing Practice in Informatics Leadership.
Oliver has been active in the community, a mentor to high school, college, and fellow nursing students, an educator, and most importantly, a mother of two young men, Trevor and Trenton.
She was the first nurse manager of clinical applications in the VISN 7 area. She is now the first chief nursing informatics officer for Ralph H. Johnson VA Healthcare System in Charleston, S.C.
Oliver is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. Her favorite scripture in life is Proverbs 4:23, "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it."
