Waverly Gordon
’04 Waverly Gordon serves as deputy staff director and general counsel for the Committee on Energy and Commerce for the U.S. House of Representatives. She manages efforts on various policy issues, including telecommunications, health care, climate change, and consumer protection. During the 117th Congress, the Committee led efforts that became law as part of the American Rescue Plan, the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, and the Inflation Reduction Act. Gordon also counsels members and staff on procedural, jurisdictional, and legal issues. Previously, Gordon served as health counsel for the Committee. She focused on public health issues related to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Prior to joining the Committee, she served as senior policy advisor for Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky and as a Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Louis Stokes Urban Health Policy Fellow with the Office of Congresswoman Donna Christensen and the Committee on Education and the Workforce. Originally from Simpsonville, S.C., Gordon received a Bachelor of Science from Claflin University, a Master of Health Administration from The Ohio State University, and a Juris Doctor from Duke University.
