Year Nine Year 9
T
he Year 9 students for 2006 have completed a successful school year where they maintained high standards and engaged in the full life of the College with excellent spirit and endeavour.
A key to success for students, not only in Year 9 but for the entire journey at Trinity College, is the need to participate enthusiastically in the academic, spiritual, sporting and cultural pursuits of the College. In short, the more the boys are prepared to become involved with the vast opportunities provided at the College, the greater will be the rewards in terms of growing towards their highest potential. Mr Robert Armitage Head of Year 9
Academically it was pleasing to note that across the year group a culture of academic excellence was maintained and built on from last year. Not only do a considerable number of students achieve impressive results, but the vast majority exhibit work habits that show genuine effort to maximise their respective levels of ability. Spiritually the boys’ earnest participation in the whole school and year level Masses was another admirable dimension of their growth throughout the year. In addition, all Pastoral Care Groups had the opportunity to participate in our Galilee Retreats in September. The boys responded well to the heartfelt personal talks from staff and the meaningful connections made to their own life experiences. The Year 9s are also to be commended for their willingness to be Men for Others through their participation in a range of Christian Service programs, their support for the missions and the great commitment and flair shown in their fundraising on Un-Fair Day. Year level and Middle School assemblies provided students with a forum to provide feedback to their

peers about the diverse activities they find themselves involved in. A significant shift towards highlighting the achievements of students who do not typically find the limelight and giving students greater ownership in terms of the actual running of these occasions was extremely valuable. The Year 9 students have also made an enthusiastic and talented contribution to the sporting life of the College where sportsmanship and team spirit remained a high priority. The winning Year 9 Rugby team and our significant contribution to the overall success of the College at the PSA Inters are worth highlighting. The boys were also seen to be loyal spectators at the PSA Swimming and Athletics competitions. During Term 1 each PCG group went through an election process to choose two student councillors whose role was to not only represent the interests of their peers, but to serve others by assisting in Pastoral Care Group and broader College activities. While it is acknowledged that there is potential to expand the nature of their role, they were all good role models and performed well in providing positive leadership. I thank the councillors and encourage them to continue to seek out leadership opportunities in the years to come. The centrepiece of our social calendar was the Trinity Mercedes ballroom dancing lessons which culminated in a formal dance hosted by Mercedes. The boys’ enthusiastic and gracious participation during this ten week program was outstanding. In closing I would like to offer my deep gratitude to the Year 9 Pastoral Care group for 2006. Mr Osnain, Ms Campisi, Mr Shackleton, Ms Passetti, Mr Hankin, Mr Scott and Mrs Hourston all offered guidance and support to the students in a manner that was characterised by great generosity, compassion and commitment.
