Junior School Concert
This year’s Junior School Concert and Presentation Evening returned to Gibney Hall on Monday the 4th December and was hosted by Ms Catherine Tesoriero and Mr Gordon Dean. This year’s event trialled a variation on previous years’ class performances, through the adoption of a common theme. Performances were based on the story Where in the World? adapted by Mrs Elisabeth Martyn and Ms Ruth Bott. The evening began with recognition of Prefects ‘old and new’ and the passing of the Junior School candle which our new leaders will use as their guide for the coming year. The Junior School Principal, Mr Mark Hackett, in his address, spoke of another successful year in all aspects of the College’s four pillars of education and the genuine care and spirit that is alive amongst the students, staff and families of the Trinity community. He too spoke briefly about the Curriculum Framework, citing examples of its progress and how well the Junior School staff were responding to its trials and challenges. In closing he gave words of praise and thanks to our outgoing College Principal, Mr Robert Henderson, wishing him well on behalf of the entire Junior School, as he embarks on his new chapter as Principal of CBC, Fremantle. Christian Leadership and Endeavour Awards were distributed by the guest of honour, Mr Robert Henderson. Both Year 7 classes were presented with class photographs by their teachers Mr Gavin Bell and Mr Tony Maxfield. The night’s performances with their running theme of places from around the world began with Junior
School Music Teacher, Mrs Elisabeth Martyn conducting the Year 6/7 Elastic Band in their sprightly and then gentle renditions of BunyipBlues and Quiet Moments. This was followed by our Year 5 classes singing and swaying to Calypso Calypso! The Year 6/7 Choir then gave a stirring rendition of New York, New York and then sung beautifully the song, Tears from Clouds. Mrs Martyn continued her able conducting with the Year 4/5 Choir as they sang superbly their two songs The Wind and Lullaby. The Ms Ruth Bott Performing Arts Coordinator Year 6 classes performed with percussion their Japanese song Hitori, followed by the Year 4s and a very enchanting song from Samoa, Tiki Chant. The recently formed choir ‘Get A Grip’ sang Walking in the Air with clever harmonies. The evening was still full of energy and surprise with the Year 7s performing their own music on electric and acoustic instruments, rapping and dancing to an arrangement of the Hilltop Hoods song Coming Up directed by Ruth Bott. This energy continued as BIG (Boys In Groove) danced their latest “mechanised” offering, Motor, to “electric” applause! Forty seven boys in green overalls worked the stage using repetition and vibration to revitalise the audience ready for their car journeys home! The night concluded with the whole school singing, We’re the Future of Tomorrow and a rousing performance of the school song In Nomine Domini. This was a wonderful night of student performances, a celebration giving thanks for the innumerable things that make the Junior School the superb place it is!
