Trinity College Auxiliary President’s Report
With our name change from Ladies Auxiliary to Trinity College Auxiliary, I began to reflect on the origins of the Committee and how it has evolved over the years. As early as 1930, as “CBC The Terrace”, the original Parent Association had already been established and it was under this banner that the “Ladies Committee” was formed. Even then they quickly became the support network for the school. They raised a considerable amount of money “in order to meet the interest on the increasing debt and add to general funds toward the development of suitable sports grounds at ‘Clune Park’”. This Committee continued when the school divided to form Aquinas College and Trinity College in 1964. In those early days the “Ladies Committee” instigated and operated the Tuck Shop, the Opportunity Shop and second hand book sales. Funds raised were used to provide various items for the College including seating, television sets, increasing the capacity of the Library and the Band Room. In order to raise these funds the Committee also held a Cocktail Party, a Formal Dinner and a Melbourne Cup Luncheon, providing all the catering themselves. They were also responsible for the School Ball which, although by no means as elaborate as the extraordinary balls today, was none the less a major accomplishment- and they still had the energy for a Parent Ball the following night! One of the truly amazing feats of the Committee, by then known as “The Ladies Auxiliary”, was the raising of monies for the provision of the pipe organ for the College Chapel. Twenty one years after the building of the Chapel the interior was finally complete. Even today it is held in high repute as one of the finest pipe organs in Australia. Researching the history of the Trinity Auxiliary has been a revelation to me, not only because of the
amount of change, but also because even with the passage of time some things remain constant. In reading through past reports the prevailing comment is the dedication, enthusiasm and devotion of all these Committees to Trinity College, which is still true today. I believe this is part of the “Trinity Spirit”, making Trinity College a great educational facility for our boys. It is with sadness that we farewell some of our Committee members who have epitomised that Trinity Spirit with their hard work and support. Mrs Michelle Marinovich, Mrs Margaret Ker, Mrs Patsy Colan and Mrs Rosa Gotti have been a valuable part of our diligent and hardworking Committee and I will miss their friendship and dedication. I am indeed grateful to all members of the Trinity College Auxiliary for their support, especially as time becomes such a valuable commodity in today’s world. This has been increasingly obvious to me this year and I am indeed grateful to the Committee, and in particular to Mrs Martina Stroud, Mrs Michelle Marinovich and Mrs Mrs Marilyn Harries President of the College Auxiliary presents Mr Robert Henderson with Margaret Ker for maintaining continuity a farewell gift at the Parent Helpers Supper in my absences. To Mr Rob Henderson, our thanks and admiration for wholeheartedly embracing the Trinity Spirit and for your support and appreciation of the Trinity College Auxiliary in our endeavours and functions for the College. We wish you and your lovely family well at CBC Fremantle. Good luck Rob, we will miss you. I hope, despite the changing times and no matter how many name variations the Auxiliary has, it will always be there to provide the College with an avenue for hospitality and a means to create fellowship and cooperation within the College community. This can only eventuate with your support and involvement.
Mrs Marilyn Harries
President Trinity College Auxiliary
