Student Roll Call

2006 has been another busy year in the Design and Technology department as the Treacy Centre continues to grow in student numbers. On any week of the school year we have almost 600 boys from Years 8 to 12 studying at least one subject in this predominantly Mr Ray Archibald Head of Design & Technology practical area. This year we entered students in four state wide competitions:- The Western Power Solar Model Car Challenge, The Fine Woodwork Association of WA Out of the Woods Exhibition, The CO2 Model Dragster State Championships and Institute of Engineers Science and Engineering Challenge. While we achieved some excellent results in these competitions a special mention must go to Seve Pratico (Year 9) whose car won the CO2 Dragster State Championships and went on to represent WA in the National finals in Canberra. Also to Eric Bin Sali (Year 10) and Ryan Balmer (Year 11) who were both Highly Commended for their furniture projects in the Woodwork Association Awards.

This year has also been the first year of the new Engineering Studies COS for our Year 11 students. In these courses we have seen students design and make diverse projects from remote control cars to flat pack furniture.

At the end of this year we are unfortunately losing one of our dedicated teachers, Mr Toby Trewin, our Graphics expert, who has given his students excellent tuition in 3D Graphics software for the past three years. We also farewell Mr John Broadhead, who is off on a year’s leave in 2007.
