Year 10

Mr John Montagu

Head of Year 10 2006 has been a full and diverse experience for our Year 10 students. This very talented group of young men have been front runners in all areas of school life. The four pillars of the College have been well supported by this year group. Orchestras, Ensembles, Pipes and Drums, Choirs and Dance groups such as Guys in Groove. Breaking new frontiers and with assistance from Mr Charlie Liggins, Daniel Purcell and Patrick Whitehall performed their comedy routine Who’s on the Wing on Speech Night. Absolute gold, well done men.

Sport

Christian Service and Catholic Traditions

We have had a number of significant Masses and Liturgies throughout the year. All of these have been well organised by the Religious Education Department and enthusiastically supported by the students. Their singing, musical performances and choir are a real feature. The earthy straight talking sermons from Father McMahon are always relevant to the boys and are much appreciated. The Retreat Program is a positive experience for the Year 10s, as is the opportunity to be a part of our Community Service Department, serving meals to young children or being involved in soup kitchen patrols. A number of the boys write letters for Amnesty International under the guidance of Mr Leo Murray. The Edmund Rice Outreach program is also supported by our Year 10s. Ian Chia, Joshua Hicks, Gerard Rosario, Alex Malkovic and Callum Morich have been very involved in both Amnesty and the “Eddy Rice Outreach”. The “Un-Fair Day“ was another success in 2006.

Academic

The year group as a whole is very capable academically. Their performance in maths competitions, car design competitions (Seve Pratico) and the level of performance in Course One classes and the Literature classes have been excellent. These young men are a very personable and social group who have the potential to really succeed with their studies over the next few years.

Music, Dance and Drama

Dr Robert Braham and Ms Ruth Bott have developed a culture of enthusiastic and professional performance in both Music and Dance respectively. Scores of students are given an opportunity to perform in various

We had numerous students representing the state in various sports. Kane Lucas and Xavier Foley, both State Football representatives, played in the victorious Alcock Cup Football side. Mark Birighitti and James Davies represented the state in Soccer. Travis Colyer kept wickets for the 1st X1 Cricket. Tom Coates and Brendan Lally played 1st X1 Hockey. Kyle Mackin, Wei Gen Ng and Scott Tognolini were 1st V111 Tennis players. Sam Burke was a State Lifesaving representative and played 1st Waterpolo. Joshua Hicks showed great strength and stamina in the long distance events at the Athletics, running above his age group in the 800m and 1500m. He also broke several records in the winter Cross Country season. Matt Cowie has represented Trinity and has competed nationally in Discus and Shot Put. The depth of talent in the College is outstanding and I congratulate all students who have excelled this year. Many students are going on sporting tours over summer. The Rugby students are going to Singapore, USA and Canada and the Basketball students to the USA. The Cricket students are going to Queensland and the Football students to Melbourne next year. It certainly is a busy school. In conclusion I would like to thank the PCG Teachers of Year 10 for their support throughout the year. They have been professional and onside with the students all year. I will look forward to taking the 2006 vintage crop of young men into Year 11 in 2007.
