Head of Senior School Senior School
T
he daily life of our senior students is full and challenging! In addition to courses and classes, students’ experience at school is enriched by the numerous sporting, cultural, and most importantly, faith and service experiences that the curriculum provides. I Mr Martin Tobin continue to be impressed by Head of Senior School the enthusiasm that our senior students have for College life and their capacity to integrate all of these elements. The Graduating Class of 2006 have certainly led the student body with distinction in these areas throughout the academic year and are to be complimented for the generous and genuine contribution that they have made to the College.
Senior School Council I take this opportunity to thank all members of the College’s Senior School Council for their effort and cooperation throughout the year. The Council continues to focus on the implementation of the newly developed Courses of Study for 2006 and 2007 and beyond. The Council views the implementation of these courses as an opportunity for the College to provide a relevant and diverse curriculum that will meet our students’ needs next year and in the future. The collective experience of the members of the Senior Council and their diligence to ensure that they are informed and engaged with the implementation and ongoing review of these courses ensures that students and parents can be confident in its capacity to lead the Senior School through this process. Moreover, the Council continues to work towards ensuring that Trinity College continues to be a leader in boys’ education through its pastoral and curriculum initiatives. An example of its efforts to do so this year is the audit undertaken by each learning area of their learning programs and experiences that promote academic excellence. This was then presented to the Promoting Excellence in Boys’ Education team. As a result it is intended that a more systematic and comprehensive approach to meet the diverse needs of our students will continue in 2007.
Dwellingup in January and from this moment it was evident that the group was cohesive and highly motivated. The process for the nomination and selection of the Prefects for 2007 commenced in Term Three and the response from the student body was most pleasing. This process was reviewed in 2006 to be further refined in 2007. The Prefects were formally presented to the College community at Speech Night. In collaboration with this group the College will review and where necessary redefine the roles and responsibilities of the College Prefects to ensure that we have a more meaningful experience for our senior leaders and a more active and effective student leadership in 2007.
Heads of Year The College is most fortunate to have a dedicated team of Heads of Year in the Senior School to assist students with their academic and pastoral needs. I take this opportunity to thank Mr Barry McKenna (Head of Year 12), Mrs Eileen Lane and Mr Geoff Jamieson (Heads of Year 11 during 2006) and Mr John Montagu (Head of Year 10) for their assistance throughout the year.
Closing Remarks It has been a privilege to undertake the role of the Head of Senior School for 2006 and an honour to serve the College that I cherished during my time as a student and as a staff member. I am convinced of the merits of the education that Trinity College provides for its students and I encourage all senior students in 2007 to make the most of the opportunities that the College provides. In our efforts to become Men for Others let us ensure that at all times we are true to our College Motto, In Nomine Domini, in our relationships and our studies. I very much look forward to continuing to work with staff and families in this capacity in the years to come. I would also like to recognise the contribution that Mr Robert Henderson has made to the College and, in particular, the Senior School during his time at Trinity College. His enthusiasm for Trinity College is greatly appreciated by the College community. We wish him all the very best for the future.
College Prefects 2006 and 2007 This year’s Prefect group are to be commended on their efforts as student leaders. The Prefect Camp was held at the College as a result of the bushfires in
