T
he 1st V Basketball campaign for the Blackwood Cup began in October 2005, with a very talented squad put through a vigorous pre-season training regime. After a very successful Term Four – where the 1st V, 2nd V and 3rd V managed Mr Andrew Osnain to win the combined 1st V Manager Shortland Jones Cup – the senior boys were looking forward to the upcoming Blackwood Cup.
The fixture against Christ Church marked the end of an important era in Trinity Basketball. Myles Kelly has decided to leave Trinity College after instilling his expertise and professionalism into the Trinity Basketball program over a six year period. Prior to Myles’ arrival our teams were renowned for being easy beats. Much of the success of the Trinity Basketball program is the result of his hard work and dedication, in conjunction with the commitment of staff coaches. Trinity Basketball has become a serious force across all year groups. Term Four 2005 and Term One 2006 results from Year 8 to Year 10 suggest that Trinity Basketball will continue to go from strength to strength in future years.
The 2006 season did not begin as planned, losing players to injury and outside commitments, however the team remained focussed and ready to take their basketball to the next level. Unfortunately the 1st V lost to Aquinas in the second game of the season, which inevitably handed the Blackwood Cup to Aquinas College. The boys could have easily dropped their heads and gone through the motions, but to their credit they fought out the season in true Trinity style winning the remaining fixtures against Guildford, Scotch, Christ Church and Wesley.
With the coaching expertise of Mr Tim Redden, Mr Russell Hinks, Mr Rohan Van Dongen and Mr John Montagu, students will continue to improve and strive for excellence both on and off the court. Finally, I would like to thank all parents and students for their commitment to Trinity Basketball. A great deal of work behind the scenes is a result of parental involvement and that is greatly appreciated. Mr Andrew Osnain 1st V Manager
